Is it so difficult to accept that even some people with no personal ties to Poland whatsoever simply like the song?

Because it blatantly has nothing to do with that.

Huge Congratulations Michal! Beautiful performance. You charmed the Europe with your song & your soul was clearly shining through!

Jury voting... no words. Very sad.

He performed his song so well. He wore a Prince style jacket and sung like David Bowie. Very effective I'm not surprised the public liked it, don't know why the juries scored it low.

Congratulations! This is third best Polish result in the history. Also the fact that I used to be a hater and now I'm very happy with the (televoting) results proves that Michal has undeniable charm.

Polish diaspora out in force. This really doesn't paint the televote in a good light.

I had my own Eurovision party for the first time and none of us could understand how Poland got that many points????? That was bizarre.

I don't understand the 'oh it's the diaspora' argument.
Poland is in Eurovision for many many years. If it was extremely strong diaspora votes then we would place in top 10 every single year. When a song stands out and becomes one of top 3 its clearly visible in televoting, no diaspora can change it really.

I think the problem is the jury - or rather the quality of the jury. Usually they are just random people, not really professionals. I still can't get my head around the fact, that our juror was 'Kasa' few years ago. How is that supposed to work?

The incident with Russian juror highlighted the problem even more.
I like that there is a jury - but not the one that votes all over the place and politically like we seen today.

Not quite a fan of the song and Michal but vocal talent should be recognized when it's due. The entry was actually quite catchy and delivered flawlessly. Part of my heart goes out to the Poles and fans of this entry because this whole jury deal was just about the same thing as with Cleo & Donatan two years ago.

EDIT: Perhaps one of the best lyrics of this year's edition as well.

Well, maybe it was the same mechanism like in our National Final (what polunited said in Polish-language topic)? After our NF it was bizarre for many people too, but now we can see that it worked. I wouldn't credit our points only for diaspora, because our results in whole ESC history are really poor and we even did not won in UK in this and last year, so... ;)

I wasn't fan of this choice as well, but I am happy because of this result and I would like to congratulate him. It is good to see Poland in the Top 10, finally.

It looks like many people in Europe just liked this song. Just look at iTunes charts now. Diaspora may vote because this is a "patriotic duty", but do they buy this song? Nope. And it is going very well on iTunes now, so...

I always rated this entry and Poland made completely the right choice when they chose Michał Szpak to represent them, his vocals were fantastic in the Eurovision final. Don't ask me what the juries have against Poland though.

Very sad to see what the jury did to Poland tonight. I was watching the show with my mum (who missed the second semi) and my father who quite conveniently planned a visit for this weekend. Guess who both of their favourites were? Yup, Michal. My mother absolutely fell in love with him. I had to of course suffer the awkwardness of "woah he looks so much like you" for the 4 minutes he was on our screen. My dad who's a real rocker (into Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, Bowie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hawkwind etc) really enjoyed it. In fact, it was the only song he fully enjoyed (thought Georgia were good but was a bit put off by the vocals for some reason). My mother was charmed by Michal. Thought he had the most beautiful voice, thought the song was moving and powerful. He really touched her heart. There were some genuine gasps of wonderment during the performance. My mum asked me to vote for Poland on her behalf and I did, three times in fact. One for her, one for my dad and one for me.

The jury placing the song second last is so disappointing and I don't understand it. Europe's 3rd favourite and the juries 25th? Wrong on so many levels, but he still thankfully managed a top 10 finish. He did you proud Polandxheart The right choice. Shame on the juries tbh.... not too much shame though as they helped Jamala to win and kept Georgia from a tragic finishxshifty

I hope the result tonight finally shuts up Margaret fans for good

I have no doubt Margaret would have been exposed exactly as Amir was and would have ended up with a similar downfall. Her result would at best be no different then Michals :geek:

They came in 7th in televote in Croatia and it's not like there's big Polish diaspora here...

And? Once country hardly an example. Pretty much every country that gave 10s and 12s were countries with a large known Polish community.

Poland this year will stay as a COMPLETE mystery for me. I don't understand at all, I thought Space Captain would have sunken with his ship but Europe loved it and I truly respect that choice but still, it's a complete mystery for me.
