Re: POLAND 2014

Any particular reason to why people think today is the day? Did TVP hint any date?

A decision on the possible TVP’s participation in ESC 2014 will be taken by Board of the Polish public broadcaster, which gathers every Wednesday till late evening. If they decide this week, we may expect a press release on Thursday. According to Jacek Rakowiecki, TVP spokesperson, everything will be clear this week or next one at the latest.

I'm afraid TVP is just busy inventing another excuse for not participating again... But of course I hope I'm wrong.

I'm afraid that might be the case aswell :( I mean they can't blame the Euro 2012 for the third year in a row now can they?

No, they can't! And believe me - they do have money. The problem is just that they spend it on stupid TV series or tv presenters.

I don't know about the money situation of TVP, but surely it can't be worse than in Portugal or Greece. I think that the main issue is, as I've written before, that there's no public demand for Eurovision in Poland. Sure there are some fans, but as far as I'm concerned it's not a major event and of course all the years of flop results have obviously effected this aswell, but I mean it's all about the attitude. Look at Germany and Hungary for instance, they've been in a similar situation but now interest is up again. Even in small Slovakia, which has been (unfairly) constantly flopping since the 90's, the local selection process between 2009-2010 was a popular one. The attitude of the broadcaster is in some ways more important than anything else.

You are right, the reason for this this situation is the lack of any promotion of the contest and its negative campaigning. We have some young talents that could do well in ESC (even from The Voice of Poland), but they won't participate because they are afraid of what people will say after. It's a big shame, but what to do? :(

Yeah, it's a difficult one to change the opinion of a whole concept which already has a bad reputation. Though people have to look rational at this, TVP didn't put much effort and they more or less just attracted b-acts with demo songs instead of really trying to get proper entries and/-or acts for Poland, and obviously years of flopping as a result will lead to established acts not willing to take the risk.

But then again, it's about attitude. Estonia's broadcaster introduced Eesti Laul after the flopping Euro Laul concept, and it was practically a reformed idea where the main point is to promote contemporary music of the country, rather than some formulaic idea about finding the right "song for Europe". Hungary seem to be jumping on a similar train as Estonia. Maybe TVP could learn from them? Making it a local event and a platform for actual native success rather than aiming for ESC, and just take it as a bonus if ESC success would come along. I mean it seems this new approach is working for other countries so maybe it could work for Poland aswell.

I just couldn't agree more. Finding "the right song" is not the way, "the right songs" never win ESC. ;) Only original and fresh ideas can win.

My types for ESC are the band Enej or Dawid Podsiadło, but neither of them would like to participate I'm afraid... And though I admire Edyta Górniak and consider her Poland's best female vocalist even at the age of 41, I'm not sure if I'd like to see her losing :(

You're right with selection and everything.

Of course, it's a long process. I think I've written something in summer in this thread about bad PR around the ESC in Poland. It would be a good idea (dreaming...) that IF we participate TVP1 could find some spot in their schedule and make 15 minutes blocks showing some good ESC songs instead of kitchy to show the public there is quality not only camp as they are convinced in their hatred. What I mean is let's show them Anouk, ByeAlex and not Cesar. I know people who when hear "Eurovision", refuse to even listen to a song...
But it would take to have someone interested in ESC in TVP and I don't feel that there is such person there (at all).

Also it's our (very sad) thing that we're almost always negative about our particpant, song, this negativity spreads and even when our perfomance is good or at least descent there is flood of criticsm before and after the contest.
We need our own Anouk not another act of "Song for Europe" on Valentine's Day. Revise the format (treat it more seriously than hosting in corridor) or choose internally and make small show (3-5 songs) for chosen artist.

Well..I hope they decide as fast as they can.
