Re: Paul, the psychic octopus predicting Germany-Argentina

Well, he's had a good run. The most famous octopus in the world, and he managed to get over his final complex (as he missed on the Euro 2008 final). Whether this was staged or not, he's got his eternal place in the history books. The octopus may die, but the legend lives on.

Oktopus Paul:"Dear friends, thank you very much for your invitations, but I feel very very good in Germany. If I go to Spain, I am scared you will force me one day to work, because of the bad economical situation. ;-)
In Germany I have a wonderful living standard, very good health care, I am fed to the best; it's best country in the world. Thanks."

'Psychic octopus' Paul retires triumphant

An octopus credited with psychic powers is to retire from making predictions following his World Cup success, his owners say.

Paul will go back to his old job "making children laugh", a spokeswoman for the German aquarium said.

The octopus correctly predicted the outcomes of all seven of Germany's games plus the Spain-Netherlands final.

As a reward, aquarium staff presented him with his very own replica World Cup trophy garnished with his favourite food - mussels.

Tanja Munzig, of the Sea Life Aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen, said they had received offers for Paul but he was not for sale.

"There are a lot of offers for Paul from betting offices and other areas. One thing is clear: Paul is staying with us," she said.

She added he would now "step back from the official oracle business".

"He won't give any more oracle predictions - either in football, or in politics, lifestyle or economy. Paul will get back to his former job, namely making children laugh."

Paul made his uncanny predictions for each game by choosing a mussel from one of two jars bearing the flags of World Cup opponents.

The two-year-old cephalopod quickly became a worldwide celebrity.

Seemingly unimpressed with his star status, Paul at first ignored the golden trophy - adorned with three mussels - placed in his tank.

But after several minutes he finally picked off a mussel and devoured it in front of TV cameras.

Well I asked him about some future matches and here is what he picked:

Steaua - Olympiakos (1-0) Right
Spain - Netherlands (1-0) Right
CFR Cluj - Unirea Urziceni (4-2) Right
U Cluj - Steaua
Astra - Dinamo
Inter - Atletico Madrid

He got 3 out of 3 by now! If he gets the other 3 matches then he is really psychic!

A jewish rabbi from the town of Shoham said that using an octopus to predict results is "a expression of the moral bankrupt suffered by Western world"

'Psychic' octopus backs England World Cup bid

Paul the "psychic" octopus has become the latest star to support England's bid to host the World Cup in 2018.
'Psychic' octopus backs England World Cup bid
Paul the "psychic" octopus has become the latest star to support England's bid to host the World Cup in 2018.
The two-year-old Weymouth-born but German based cephalopod became a global celebrity for predicting results at the World Cup in South Africa.
He has since signed a book and a number of merchandise deals, and is also set to exhibit his skills in a film.
Former England star John Barnes said: "Paul becoming an official ambassador is tremendous for the bid campaign."
The famous sea creature was hatched at a Sea Life Centre in Weymouth in 2008 and, after spending two years at a German aquarium he hit the headlines during the summer for his football predictions.
He correctly predicted the outcomes of all seven of Germany's games - including the 4-1 demolition of England for a place in the quarter-finals - plus the Spain-Netherlands final.
Following a triumphant return to the Oberhausen Sea Life Aquarium in the western German city in July, Paul was rewarded with his own replica World Cup trophy garnished with his favourite food - mussels.
Paul used mussels to make his World Cup predictions for each game by choosing one from the two jars bearing the flags of opponents.
There has been recent rumours of retirement, along with offers to purchase him, but Tanja Munzig, spokseperson at the German aquarium, insisted that Paul would "step back from the official oracle business".
However, with his country of birth looking to stage the Fifa tournament in eight years, any thought of a rest seems to have been put on hold.
Nicola Hamilton, manager at Weymouth Sea Life Centre, said: "Paul has spent the last two years of his life in Germany, but he is definitely a proud Englishman and is therefore delighted to put his support behind England 2018.
"We have had a number of football approaches from around the world but Paul was only ever going to choose his homeland.
"With his predicting days behind him Paul is now concentrating on a number of new projects and the England 2018 campaign is something we are sure he feels passionately about. Becoming an official ambassador for the bid is an honour for Paul and everyone here."
Paul joins a list of celebrities supporting the bid that includes England players David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand, 2008 Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, and musicians Noel Gallagher and Sting.
Barnes, a former Liverpool and England midfielder and fellow 2018 ambassador, added: "After his success during South Africa 2010, Paul is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in football.
"I predict that huge numbers of people will follow Paul's lead and back the bid. Since our launch last year, more than a million football fans have officially shown their support, including some of England's most famous names.
"With the decision date fast approaching it's now more important than ever to get behind England 2018."
England is battling with Russia, the United States, Australia, and joint bids from Spain and Portugal, and Holland and Belgium for the right to host the 2018 World Cup tournament.
The winning bids for 2018 and the 2022 tournament will be revealed on 2 December.

Paul only likes Spain...sorry man:cool:

England needs to buy an octapus to promote their bid???:lol::lol: How much serious it's the candidature then.

English Federation of Football acuse the spanish one of have intentions to bribe referees at the World Cup, with them they want to attack our bid for the World Cup, and in my opinion these is not fair.

You won the bid for the Olympic Games of 2012, then that's enough for some years. :D

SPAIN&PORTUGAL 2018!!!!
IBERIAN CANDIDATURE TO WIN!!!!

:lol::lol::lol: Yeah English per pay.

When you said this, I remember of David Beckham at the session of the IOC to choice the city to host the Olympic Games of 2012.
He was supporting London, but he was playing football in Madrid and living in Madrid.

PD: FIFA members are already in Spain to evaluate the candidature. ;)
