:ie: are hoping to win a medal with Annalise Murphy today in sailing.
She was very unlucky in London 2012 with a leading after 4 days and didn't get any medal.

THIS SO F**KING SURREAL!! SWEDEN ARE IN THE FINAL OF WOMENS FOOTBALL!
We basically closed the Brazilians off and they had no chance in the shootoff. I can't believe it, I have been so angry at my team, and now they suddenly are in the final! First Olympic medal ever in Womens Football, Hurray, About time! :D

So proud of my country and its athletes :D

Really pulled ahead of China now, and on the verge of joining the United States with our gold medal tally in the 20's! More gold medals than any other country apart from the US, more silver medals than any other country apart from the US, more medals in total than any other country apart from the US!

So Great Britain is ranked 2nd whatever system is used - gold-preference, total medals, or points! xcheer :uk:

In the track cycling, Team GB has got 6 golds and our nearest rival is the Netherlands with 1!

China may well re-take second position, who knows, but I've got my fingers crossed and I'm so pleased with what we've achieved at this Olympics! :D

The fight between China and UK is exciting indeed, China bounced back this night with a gold medal in table tennis in the final against us (sorry that we couldn't stop them although we have two players of chinese origin :lol: ). Bad for UK that the track cycling events are over now but I don't see so many possibilities for China to catch up. In Badminton they can only get 3 more golden medals, in addition another golden medal in Table Tennis. In Athletics both UK and China aren't very powerful so this won't probably change a lot. China has more than one billion inhabitants, they invested a lot of money and efforts in promotion of athletes for many many years and they did all this very systematically. How will mighty China react when they fall behind a 60 million people country from Europe? :mrgreen:

Different topic: The last day was the most successful for :de: ... we won 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and one bronze. I was pretty relieved that we could win another medal in Cycling, cause ending with only one bronze medal in Cycling would have been a historical disaster for us since we use to be a Cycling nation. I am so happy for Kristina Vogel cause she messed it up before in Keirin due to tactical mistakes but this time she just went on full pace and got the gold.

I am also happy for our gymnast Fabian Hambüchen who made his last competition today after a long and successful career. Now he finally realized his dream and won gold in Olympics.

The positive surprise of today was certainly the third place of diver Patrick Hausding that came a bit out of the blue but is totally deserved since he often missed the medals very closely.

Another great news: Our Football and Beachvolleyball girls won their semi finals and will fight for gold. :D We have already as many gold medals as we had in London so it looks like we can improve the amount.

The very negative surprise of today was the knock-out of our men hockey team which I considered as a huge gold contender before. Now they can only win bronze but this will be difficult enoguh since their opponent will be the big rival Netherlands. Fingers are crossed xcrossed

In the medal table we tore a gap between us and our hunters Italy & co. Now we have finally more medals than Italy. With all due respect to Italy which are having amazing time in Rio but it would be worrying if Germany ended up with less medals than our mediterranean friends.
France has still one medal more than us. I hope we can still surpass them in this ranking. However, it's difficult. France Olympic team looks very balanced, they dominate in no sport but they seem to have medal contenders in every sport xthink

In my opinion, there should be 5 medals:
1st place=> Diamond medal
2nd place=> Gold medal
3rd place=> Silver medal
4th place=> Bronze medal
5th place=> Wooden medal

Can't believe you forgot

Where would these rank though? xthink

Much quieter day for Great Britain today, as expected :p

Hopefully it stays quiet for China too ;)

Very pleased with the medal table as it currently stands, though I am hoping that Germany might manage to magic up a couple of golds from somewhere to come 4th :D 1st US 2nd GB 3rd CN 4th DE 5th RU would be a happy ending to the Games I feel ;)

I'm cheering for pretty much every European team now + :us: :ca: :au: :nz:

I've just noticed that Kosovo have a gold medal too :eek: They should be so proud of themselves! Debut year and not even recognised by every one!!
