I will be cheering for Canada to get more medals than they usually get. And I will also cheer for the hosts. They proved in China that they should be counted for the top, so I think that Great Britain will end in the top3 at the end. As for Macedonia, well I don't have any expectations. So far there is no single athlete that has been confirmed to participate. My hopes are on the Male Handball team (good chance), the Male Volleyball team (lowest chance here), the Male Waterpolo team (good chance) and the Male Basketball team (decent chance?). I know the chances are slim for any of those teams to make it to the Olympics, but I hope they give their best.
+ You have one of the best divers, you will get medals there 4sure.

I think most likely it will remain the same domination....at least from Russia wonders think we should not expect us to at least 3rd place to take. Russia has big problems with the development of sport and everything is kept only on the enthusiasm of players and coaches to support virtually not...

The only really want to hope that our triple jumper Aleksey Fedorov (who engaged me in an arena) will be able to perform adequately at the World Championships and later at the Olympic Games!

Ohh Russia have great womans atlettes who can do verry well on the Olympics: Elena Isinbayeva, Maria Savinova, Maria Sharapova... Also don't foget that your country its the superpower in the Gymnatics (I expect manny medals from here), synchronized Swimming, Boxing , Men's Greco-Roman, Athletics, Wrestling and Weightlifting (But China takes all the possibles Russian Gold Medals here) and also do well in Volleyball & Basketball :) So i expect no more than 3th place.. :)

we got 1 medal (gold) in Athens for show jumping, but it was stripped because the horse was on drugs :(
We had a doping scandal in heptathlon and they took our silver. Ironically meds influenced her performance and she flopped almost in all 7 events. The gold was taken by another Ukrainian (totally different school, base, coach, system) and that silver medal was stripped.

Thanks to that scandal the parliament improved the anti-doping law (such sportsmen won't be supported financially anymore or funding will be decreased in times), we built the national anti-doping center and it's awesome motivation to rehabilitate our image in athletics, results speak for themselves.

Speaking of, the best sportsmen were alowed to skip the National Championship in athletics so it was given to non-famous sportsmen. As of today we have 7 results with A standard and 14 results with B standard just on this particular championship.

Great Britain came 4th in 2008 with a total of 47 (19G, 13S, 15B). I hope that we may get second or third in 2012 as countries tend to do better on home soil and we only need 4 more Gold's to overtake Russia - I expect there will be a decline in China's medals and the United States will come first. I doubt that GB could overtake the US but who knows, maybe we could win? :D

I don't thing that China will decline in Gold Medals since i learn that the Chinesse works so hard in all the Areas for take it all... U.S mayber can scary them a bit, but China have amaizings athletes who can take it all just like in their homeland...

And as for my country, we have some chance of having at least one medal at the Olympics: Héctor Manzanilla & Alfonso Blanco (At Boxings if the the referees don't become unfair at favor for the European boxers as they always have done against us) Jonathan Suárez (Individual Cycling), Silvio Fernández (If again the if the the referees don't become unfair at favor for the Europeans épée fencers), Javier Guédez, Luis Vivénez and Adriana Carmona (If she don't cross again with his ''executioner'' Chen Zhong) , which has always lost with her in the last 3 Olympics :(

I hope so much at least my country win any Gold or Silver medal in London atfer 44 years as wll xpray

Well we know how the Chinese work so hard to take it all, because they torture young kids and force them to perform these events, if they dont, they are beaten ;). But in any case, it was just the Chinese wanting to win on their home ground. If it's not to be Great Britain at the top, then I'll be cheering on the United States, anything to get China off the top!

August 5-6. Diamond League series in London :D

The winners in each event (after the last Diamond League event, in Belgium) receive a little diamond (80 000 euros).

A mini-rehearsal before Olympics. I'm happy that results in certain events improved.

Congrats to Greece with the new national record in women's pole vault :) A lil' bit disappointed with American athlete but still, Isinbaeva has really strong competitors. USA, Brazil, Russia and Poland will fight for medals for sure.

Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell arrived to London but withdrew because he hasn't recovered from micro-trauma yet and he won't take risks before the world Championship. No Bolt on this competition.

Also happy for triple jump. One more victory for our European champion and we can take that diamond home. Really pleased with stable results. Also in men's long jump. Imo, Australian sportsman can set the new world record.

Wenlock (on the left) is the Olympic mascot and he is named after the Shropshire town of Much Wenlock which held a forerunner to the Olympic Games, the Wenlock Olympian Society Annual Games, which began in 1850 and continues to this day. The first edition was held on Wenlock racecourse on 22-23 October 1850 (my birthday :D) and it was a mixture of athletics and traditional country sports such as quoits, football and cricket. Mandeville (on the right) is the Paralympic mascot and he is named after Stoke Mandeville Hospital, a hospital in the West Midlands specialising in spinal injuries, which organised the Stoke Mandeville Games from 1948, the precursor of the Paralympic Games. The first edition on 28 July 1948 was called the Stoke Mandeville Games for the Paralysed and featured 16 competitors - the first international team to join was a Dutch team 1952 and it became the Paralympic Games in 1960 when it was held in Rome, Italy.

They have their own website, check it out: http://www.london2012.com/mascots
And also, their own Facebook pages:

Omg it's totally alike!

they look like aliens...

They should have picked something more British (and more cute) like an otter or a badger
They look British enough when they're dressed in the Union Jack :D. But I still think they're totally cute even though they are like aliens, but anyway, who says an alien cant be cute? ;) The videos of them just make me go awwwwwwwwwwww!! xheart

xwoo Our athletics federation announced the full list for the world Championship in Korea with standards and results for each athlete.
We are strong in female athletics mostly.

3 sportsmen with A standard is the maximum or 1 with B standard if you don't have anyone with A (not sure about marathon).

So far most def we will be represented in:

MEN
400m hurdless - 1B
Triple Jump - 1A
High jump - 2A
Pole vault - 1B (another one didn't go so most def we will finish with 2A until London)
Shot put - 1A
Discus throw - 1A
Javelin throw - 3A (for the 1st time in history, and our leader has the worst result out of all 3, grrr!)
Hammer throw - 1B (I wish we could come back on the previous level here :( )
Decathlon - 1A
20km walk - 2A
50km walk - 1A

WOMEN
100m - 3A (zomg )
200m - 3A (there can be a fight between Jamaica, Bahamas, USA and Ukraine for medals, recently we won few championships)
400m - 1A
800m - 3A
1500m - 2A
3000m Steeplechase - 1B
400m hurdles - 3A
Long jump - 1A
Triple jump - 3A
High jump - 1A
Discus throw - 1A
Hammer throw - 1A
Javelin throw - 1A
Heptathlon - 2A
Marathon - 5A
20km walk - 2A

We had awesome school of high jump, now it's far from Blanka's result or Russian athletes. Blanka will fight with Russians this time.
Isinbaeva trains here in Donetsk but our own pole vault sucks big bollz still :?

Anyway, Korea will give a gr8 chance to gain A standard for those who are stuck on B still. I'd like to have 1 more athlete in female high jump, my dream is to have 3A in male pole vault + one more boy in triple jump.

I must say China improved a lot in athletics. In certain events there's a general decline. Certain events surprised me and I'm sure that we will see 1 or even more world records (I bet on male triple jump and sprint).
Also almost all stars from Beijing will be present in London so it will be incredible competition.

Yes I have heard Ana Chicherova cleared up 207 cm recently, Blanka still has the highest jump(208 cm) but not this year. This year she had 2.00. However it will be interesting in Daegu:)!

Oscar Pistorius (400m, a sportsman without both legs) qualified to Olympics with standard A (!) and he will represent South Africa on the nearest World Championship.

Moreover, Anya has is a Russian national record. Blanca in the season though still much more stable and almost always jumping over 2 meters in contrast to her. So I think Blanca is likely to be the favorite for the championship, although in such important competitions and suddenly everything possible will be obtained as at the Beijing Olympics?

P.S. I also want to mention another athlete from Smolensk Svetlana Shkolina which also has good results and it could fall into the top 6!

Blanka has only one jump over 2.00 m (Split, 24 th of June)...but let's wait and see, no one can predict what will happen in World championship....I just hope she will stay healthy and everything will (should be) all right!

^ I think that the womens high jump will be a battle of three: Chicherova, Vlasic and Tia Hellebaut (The librarian from Belgium as we call her in Sweden ). Tia is a really good jumper when it comes to championships and after have won Euro Champs 06 and completly crushed Vlasic in Olympics 08, I would not be surprised to take the World Champs gold this year. :p

I hope though that our swedish girls, especially Emma Green Tregaro, can make a surprise like in Euro last year and take a medal! :)

I think the mascots are very nice. They look unusual, very modern and unpredictable. I am glad they didn't pick a random animal. I really do hope that UK will try to top the opening in Beijing 3 years ago. Beijing had by far the most spectacular opening (I also did like the opening in Sydney), so London will hopefully do something interesting.
