Holy Hell that was awesome. The Industrial Revolution segment was my favourite...spectacular. Some of the scenes weren't amazing (like the Slumdog bit) but generally it was every bit as good Beijing.

Credit to Danny Boyle for nailing it.

Now that was an Opening Ceremony. Obviously it wasnt as flashy or expensive as Beijing, but it was just as brilliant. It felt more real than the Beijing show. Mr Bean was the highlight of my night :D

I really enjoyed the theatrical bits of the opening ceremony, like the industrial revolution, suffragettes and the children's literature bit. That was spectacular and awesome! The part with the house, the teenage romance, the phone texting popping up all over the screen that concluded in a rap concert was pure crap, however. It went from ZOMGZ this is the best opening ceremony ever to... blah snooze. But everything else was awesome!

Mr. Bean was great.

RELIEF!!!

Really so proud tonight, and of Britishness, proud because we're all together as friends participating in the world's greatest event! I hope that everybody enjoys it, good luck to all nations too :D :D
I think the ceremony was spectacular - I wasnt too sure how it was going to go at first, but it was just wow! Like QwaarJet, the Industrial Revolution was spectacular - I really loved the history themes for obvious reasons, it's Britain at it's best. Then obvs James Bond and Her Majesty was especially special for me . Glad too that we got some time to pay respect to the dead of the wars, and of the terror attacks.

My favorite was the Singaporean guy who was talking in his phone in the parade. I bet it's gonna go viral....

One thing I am not happy about though is some people's reaction to The Queen. In fact, I am incredibly upset about it... :(

Whose reaction? In the audience? On the internet?

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what is being referred to.

I agree with you Anna about the final sections. The rap part and the romance part were pure, stinking cheese and had no place in the ceremony.I mean, Dizzee Rascal ffs! Other than that, it was excellent.

What ignorant people here? What did they say/do? Do you mean the picture with the David Tennant reference?! That was hilarious. I was hoping for the Doctor to show up myself!

Well I was hoping that too :D
But no there has been other pictures too, too vile to mention - I've seen one using the N word...
It is ignorant young people my age who don't have any concept of respect or dignity.

I probably shouldnt take it so to heart but I am sad cuz its made me feel sh*t and has put a downer on the whole thing for me . I feel genuinely upset but I guess it'd be too much to have everything absolutely perfect tho...

Great opening ceremony. Beijing was fantastic, but this came pretty close. I loved the industrialism idea. I thought that was great! The rings on fire, the torch, both great! I liked the idea with the literature, but they could have used Agatha Kristie as well. I liked the music too. That was nice, especially the many familiar songs (from Eric Clapton to Eurhytmics).. well done and Britts should be proud. I loved the parts with James Bond and Mr. Bean!

Yeah, the opening was great. Great artists, awesome fireworks and I think it was cute that the queen joined the fun in the video with Daniel Craig

The only thing I don't like is the obsession of the Brits with the war. Within the opening celebration it was totally ok, but after I saw the German dignitary waving his arm I could imagine the endless tweets about the German Nazis and the articles in the next day's newspapers. Sadly, it became true shortly after. Of course this does not represent the majority of the Brits, but I haven't seen any other nation (like France, Poland ...) so keen on seeing the Germans as Nazis. It's not like we don't expect this behaviour nowadays or are totally shocked, but it becomes quite annoying especially if the newspapers write articles without some research (I mean it was his left arm, not his right arm and he did everything he could to free the Israeli hostages during the Olympics in Munich. How can that be a Nazi?).

Hannah Miley is what I'm looking forward to today. I'll never forget her gold medal for Scotland at the Commonwealth games, and her tears during Flower Of Scotland. It's going to be hard for her to get Gold, but a medal is a good bet.

The opening ceremony last night had an average 82% audience share in the UK (roughly 23 million viewers) between 9pm and 12:30am, with a peak of nearly 27 million (getting closer to 90% share) at 10pm.

Pretty impressive for such a long-running show
