No sure it's no plagiarism lol - that's me claiming that Italy's song is plagiarism because of the clapping parts which I have heard before

Out of the ESC united team I normally appreciate your Eurovision taste the most but hey... I'm so relieved this didn't end anywhere near victory in MGP! And I was actually very afraid after the horrendous jury voting.... A very messy song in my opinion, I'd also normally like stuff like that, but that song was just nothing for me at all...

As much as I am an ardent fan of music which can be the polar opposite of this one I actually like KEiiNO's entry. It is unapolegetically catchy and their voices are quite characteristic.

A song that can actually get stuck in your head but the performance is letting it down so far - :7: points.

If you compare the melody of "[...] hold on to these monsters anymore" (Monsters) and "When northern lights are dancing" (Spirit in the Sky), they are indeed the same apart from the very last note. Wouldn't say it's plagiarism however, the melody is just a split-up chord (in this case G major), you will find those as often as sand at the ocean, as we like to say in Germany;P

Edit: It's also just the notes that are the same, the rhythm is different as well.

Thank you, that's a precise description. I don't think this is plagiarism, on the other hand, the described similarity is there. I guess people might be "blind" to it because there has already been so much unnecessary plagiarism drama this year.

No need to worry that the staging will be as lame in Tel Aviv as it was yesterdag According to the press both Keiino themselves and NRK want the "ethnic norwegian elements" to become much more apparent than it was yesterday. The head of the MGP, Karlsen, claims that " we will probably change the show almost completely, I can picture both the northern lights and maybe some lasers, and there is still some time to play with ideas".

I appreciate their appetite for making it as entertaining and ethnic as possible xlove

Hum yes. The entry that is universally beloved will not do well. Flawless logic.

Not saying that KEiiNO will win (if all the OTT novelty entries cancel each other out, something safe WILL win, but it's probably just Sweden again lol.), but your argument doesn't make a lot if sense.

KEiiNO isn't like Verona which was dated, cliche and poorly staged (ftr I loved Verona for all those reasons xlove). If anything, they're like Only Teardrops. A nice catchy song that just *feels* right in Eurovision and out of place anywhere else.

Plenty of ESC entries have been universally beloved by the fans and crashed at Eurovision. The key is knowing the signs of which is most likely to do that.

And the rest of what you said is just opinion, but I will add mine that what you said about Verona can easily apply to Spirit In The Sky. Dated? Yes. Cliche? Every one in the book. Poorly staged? The biggest yes of the lot. I also loved Verona, but I wasn't surprised when it crashed out, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened here.

They have a lot of work to do before May to have a shot at a decent result. It could still go pretty well for them (although the juries will ignore it regardless of what they do). If they improve vocals and staging it could get a mid-table finish. That's what I'm feeling right now.

But of course, I could be way off on this and they do really well. We'll just have to wait and see.

Well to be fair, this was one of the better options for Norway. Even if I preferred Mørland and "The Bubble" for example, this is still a catchy song that has a pretty strong chorus.

But still I don't love this. It is rather old-fashioned, the jojk still feels rather aggressive and the performance is dark and static, which is weird when it is a rather hopeful schlagerpop song. Parts of it all makes it feel rather plastic and I don't get any emotions from the song to be totally honest.

So there are work that needs to be done here to make it work in Tel Aviv. I am not sure how this will do there. I can see it being a qualifier by the televote, but I got a feeling that the juries will have a lot of other favorites in the semi, like Denmark and whatever wins in Sweden for example. But Norway is a country that usually makes it work in ESC stage, so a place in the final is still on the cards for them.

Certainly. The current staging IS good, but they're not using Fred properly. Fred's role contrasts with Tom & Alexandra's and putting him on the same level doesn't suit the song, at all. Fred & the duo have a symbiotic relationship where when one takes a leading role, the other supports them from the background. During the first half of the song, the staging should focus on Tom/Alexandra, while it should be all Fred, during the second half. Basically, the staging must always go along with the structure of song. Always.

Norway have one advantage over Estonia though (well two if we count that nobody is pulling Koitfaces). They are aware of what jurors like. KEiiNO aren't going to flop with televoters and I'm confident the Norwegian delegation will put together a staging concept that will draw in the jurors as well. Noway's willingness to make their show more appealing (ie: less amateur) is a very promising sign. If they deliver on their promise, they can come top five, I think.
