Cyprus are a solidly mid-tier country for me. Eleni might make them appear better than they actually are, because Cyprus do have a few stand-out great entries (Mana Mou, Sti Fotia, Fuego, arguably the Evridiki entries and Alter Ego, depending on who you'd ask), but on average they don't experience many highs or lows. I will note that Cyprus's highs are generally higher than they lows are low, which isn't much but puts them above countries that have a wider quality canyon between their good and bad entries such as Germany and Iceland.

Statistically better than Cyprus, but eh. This was a pretty weak decade for Iceland, marred by a really subpar middle (thanks to Maria and Ari being TERRIBLE) and no actual godtier entries (though Hatari came close). It's a pity because when Iceland are good, they are stupidly good. They have a well-established and talented musical scene! It's really just a question of whether they pick the best option in Söngvakeppnin, which they normally don't, so...

Old Azerbaijan is dead, LONG LIVE NEW AZERBAIJAN. Terrible start to this decade, (I can't put the blatant vote rigging and pandering into the statistics, but I'd rank them much lower than merely 'average' for this alone) completely turned it around in 2015 and have been consistently good ever since. Likewise the Dutch completely reinvented themselves right at the last moment. Out of all the Dutch entries "Arcade" would not have been my winner pick, but regardless: after starting such a strong renaissance it's always nice (and DESERVED) to clinch it with a win. What a gorgeous rags-to-riches story. PRAYER CIRCLE THAT FRANCE AND ITALY (and Slovenia but lol let's stay realistic) GET A VICTORY SOON!!!

Moldova on the other hand, is the real stuff. It is remarkable how a country with so few resources and, frankly, so little musical talent is *so stupidly good* at entertainment. Granted, their entries are well-staged mostly because their selection is the dump for all the insipid shit that gets rejected in other NFs, but jesus look at the chart. They are a wonder to behold and easily one of the 10 best countries in Eurovision, if not top 5.

It really is shocking that a country so passionate about Eurovision has such a massive blind spot when it comes to their own success. Okay, Spain, this isn't difficult. Look at the top name on the above chart. Now look for the act closest to that entry (hint: it's Pastora). Look how well they did. SEND A FUCKING LOUD POWERBALLAD AGAIN. North-Macedonia and Latvia finished in the top 10 with one each. I know this message will not come across because I'm typing it in English and not Spanish but jesus fuck just forward this post to TVE before they turn their selection into a unmitigatable disaster. Again.

Oh yeah, Denmark is so underwhelming in Eurovision. Their music is like written exclusively for retirement homes. The last time I liked a Danish entry was in 2006 "Twist of love", which was underrated. Their best entry ever is 1995 "Fra Mols til Skagen". So intriguing and rhythmic. And before that, "Dansevise" (1963).

Their 1999 song was cutesy and I think this year started their career of beige and cheesy Eurovision entries to date, with 2018 being the fun exception.
