AVROTROS has confirmed that they are not sure about participating next year and want an impartial investigation about how the contest is run how as they are definitely very disappointed about the mess we saw this year. This is Dutchspeak, so this doesn't imply that the investigation and participation are necessarily linked.

I'd like the :nl: to compete in 2025 but ideally not with Joost who's music I find try hard at best and cringe the majority the time although Europapa was ok compared to most his music. He was very childish and phony during rehearsal and got exposed a few times about not being so genuine. Those scenarios have already been brought up 3 dozen time so not going to drum those up again. In that case not competing in 2025 might be the ultimate decision.

As crazy as it sounds a chance to invite the :us: in that case if the Dutch are understandably taking the year off. I'm guessing they would command a similar sort of appearance fee.

How are the Dutch participation and hypothetical US invitation even remotely connected?
In the hypothetical situation the EBU is trying to off-set one of the higher country appearance fees countries due to a Dutch withdrawal.

I don't think that NBC sees enough value in participating in ESC to justify paying the amount that the Netherlands is paying for the appearance fee.

Joost just put "Eurovision 2025" into his Instagram bio. I just don't (can't) believe he actually wants to be back

Are there any updates about Joost and the drama which happened? I think there was supposed to be a court decision or something along those lines? Are there any news about what happened legally after the ESC?

Apparently it was postponed because his lawyer also wanted Dutch witnesses to be heard and then everything needed to be translated to Swedish. So it’s all taking a bit longer.

Anouk has said that she wanted to participate with a song in 2025, but apparently AVROTROS told her that the chances of a Dutch participation in 2025 are small at the moment and that they will make a decision in September.

I hope that rather than withdrawing they just send Joost back, as a huge middle finger to the EBU

Unsure if he'll be okay to go through that again though, but if he is I hope they'll send him

That would be quite something 🍿 However, I can't really see that Joost would like to return though since there was a lot of tension and a lot of pressure this year, at least that's my impression from an outsiders/observers POV. I dont think I would have wanted to return either if I had been participating this year.

And I would not really blame The Netherlands for withdrawing either if he was in fact disqualified over nothing. AVROTROS is pissed and (possibly) rightfully so. My love, engagement and enthusiasm for Eurovision has also taken a major hit so I might follow AVTROTROS example if they withdraw haha.

Joost did say he would return if asked - as Looren alluded to in their message previously, most likely to stick a finger up at the EBU

Girls gays and theys we just got Montenegro back for 2025, I can't be losing a powerhouse like the Netherlands after such fantastic news, but I fully understand any reason to withdraw given what happened last year.

Imagine if Joost borrows Jendriks (Germany 2021) middle finger costume for Eurovision 2025 🤣

AVRO TROS gets a longer thinking time for joining Eurovision. I think we will return honestly, but only because we love it so much...

Today, the Netherlands confirmed that they'll be participating in JESC 2025.

Since the EBU organises JESC, I fail to see how the Netherlands still bear a grunge.
I think that if you want to boycott the contest because of EBU's conduct, rules and how they organise/run things or deal with issues, you will also not take part in other EBU-sponsored/organised events... or am I mistaken?

What's the point of confirming JESC 2025 but not ESC 2025?

A) They prepare JESC way before this whole mess happen, why punish kids for ESC fucking up?
B) JESC is not organized by AVROTROS

A) No, they didn't. The Netherlands announced their 2025 (next year, probably around November/December again?). They prepared their JESC 2024 adventure (in November 2024) before the Joost incident happened.

B) JESC is organised by the EBU - the Dutch broadcaster taking care of the Dutch participation is AVROTROS.
So we still got the AVROTROS vs EBU situation. It's the same parties involved.

I don't think we can automatically assume The Netherlands will participate in ESC based on their JESC participation for the reasons stated previously; the two things are wholly separate and have different teams working on them.

On the flip side, if AVROTROS pull out, nothing is stopping another broadcaster from picking it up - which wouldn't surprise me.
