Re: MOROCCO 2014

Because we know how well LGBT people are treated in ex-USSR countries... I'm all for putting LGBT rights on the agenda, but this cannot be used as a criteria to exclude countries from the ESC, otherwise you'd have to ban Russia, Belarus and all the other countries that have made LGBT people their scapegoats in the last few years... Wait, that's actually a good idea!

Actually, in some ex USSR countries LGTB people are not treated that bad anymore. Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and even in Georgia. Ok in Russia and Belarus it is bad, but you will not go to prison for being gay! In Morocco you will...

Even if Morocco won, it's not like they will arrest every LGBT person to land there. The arena would be nearly empty  and because it will ruin morocco internationally.

Oh so there's actually a threshold of how much oppression LGBT people may endure in a given country before it becomes unacceptable? So Russia can participate because it "only" supports public beatings of gay and transgender people and passes anti-gay propaganda laws but, hey, it has the infinite kindness of not locking gays behind bars...

Besides, despite general hostility from society and the law, Morocco is probably one of the best places to be gay in the Arab world, which isn't much I'll agree with you but I honestly do not think it is worse than in ex-USSR countries.

Russia and other ex USSR countries can organise the ESC without problems. But if the ESC would be for example in Morocco, there will be so many problems!
There will be protests of muslim organisation because of the sexy European singers, and even I see happening terrorist attack by fundamental muslims who consider the ESC as a dangerous western festival which promotes homosexuality and sex!

Well I'm sure you hate how Western Europe has stereotypes on ex-USSR countries, yet you're doing the same thing with Morocco, a country you obviously don't know much about except that it's Muslim.

I know more about Morocco then you think!
I also know that Brussels looks like a capital city of Morocco, i could count Belgium people on 2 hands when I visited Brussels.

You should come more often to visit our beautiful capital. As I live there, I'd be glad to guide you in its streets. You will see that it's a wonderfully multicultural place, where everybody is Belgian or at least Belgian in his heart... And I bet you won't find 10 people who could live elsewhere... ;)

Re: MOROCCO 2014

I had opportunity to be at small towns in Flanders for almost a month, so if I only visited Brussels I would probably have the same impression as wlhlwn.. :)

In one big mall next to Antwerp I felt like in Morocco literally, all women were covered.. :)

You use the right word here : "impression". It's just that : an impression. The Belgians of Moroccan origin lives principally in the Belgian biggest cities (as Brussels and Anvers). Hence this impression. But let me remind you that the most important community of foreign extraction is... the French one ! ;)

I mean, the Frenchs are everywhere here. Even my grandmother was French !

Uhm I visited Brussels 1 week!!! Only in the centre i saw European people (who were also mostly tourists), outside of the center I saw only Middle Eastern and (North) African people. I really was in shock. I even felt not that I was in Belgium but more like somehwere in North Africa. They are everywhere!!!
Long Streets with only African or Arabic shops, many beggers on the street, and like I said before i could count Belgians on 2 hands. In the hotel were we stayed, really I'm not exaggerating, every 5 minutes police-sirenes! I even not doubt that Brussels is a very criminal city...
And it is not an impression, it is what I saw and experienced. Terrible city, which I will never visit anymore in the rest of my life!!!

I agree that the square and the buildings in the centre looks nice, but outside of the center I did not like Brussels )))
Amsterdam I felt safe in compare to Brussels!

Yes, I know. They are even on this forum ! There's a certain "rayoflight55" who's clearly one of them : he lives in Brussels and his father comes from Tunisia. But shhh ! Don't tell anyone ! It's a secret between you and me... ;)
