I can't explain it but there's something going on
A crazy energy inside of me
First just a tingle, then it turned into a burn
Like fire in my blood

And now I hear my body talk, talk, talk
A taste is all, all I need
And I'm about to climb the walls
No way I'll be alone tonight

Come over, come over
I'm over doing without you
Come over, come over
Hey lover, give me some sugar

Got me addicted, so you can't take it away
Get me all satisfied

And now I hear my body talk, talk, talk
A taste is all, all I need
And I'm about to climb the walls
No way I'll be alone tonight

Come over, come over
I'm over doing without you
Come over, come over
Hey lover, give me some sugar

Just took a little kiss to show how I was missing out
Compared to you no other [?] thing to brag about
Your lips are hot and sweet, I feel it to my knees
Now I want only one sugar, sugar on my tongue
I need your kisses baby, gotta keep 'em coming
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh

Sugar

I can’t put into words how greatly you summarized all my impressions after watching the Portuguese performance.
We can’t be wrong because I had exactly the same impression.

Thanks!

And darling, of course we're right ! xqueenbitch

And now watch the juries put Portugal top. 10 because it's "quality"... xpuke

I am curious how many points it will get. I don't want anything bad for Natalia, but it would be kinda bittesweet if it finished deep in the bottom and Kirkorov goes mad.
I predict a quite a lot, because no one dared to address her starting position in the final.

Yes, she is to open the second half BUT:

-she's the only female act in a segment of five performances (three male acts before her and two male acts after her)
-she's sandwiched between Spain and Germany that - let's be honest - won't be threats in any way, shape or form.
-she's far from other female uptempo acts (closest is Greece in 10th and Azerbaijan in 21st)
-as some members said, the song itself will remind certain viewers of a music style they're familiar with.
-Natalia's iconic delivery.

Add to that Kirkorov sprinkling some sugar sugar on them tongues, and voilà! Top 10 to 15 in sight :p

From nothing, Portugal gets the prize of hated song from the eurofan bubble.

But on a more serious note, Sugar is still a song with a beat a lot of people enjoy. She also has her own appeal and if you see the song for the first time the staging isn't that bad.

I can see how it got through, though my preference was elsewhere.

This has been a big favourite of mine this year, such a well done song.

It's much better than Maruv Siren Song for me. It's not even that comparable in a way because this is way more melodic and the earlier song was more about atmosphere. At every point of musical comparison I prefer it, the dance section is so catchy, the verse is way more interesting, the 'come over' section so great, the single word drop is way better done. I suppose some have just known the Maruv song longer and feel protective of it as it didn't take part in Eurovision.

Another reason some apparently don't like it is Kirkorov. I don't have any particular opinion on him, I'm sure I haven't liked many of his songs that much but the one he co-wrote with Kontopolous "X My Heart" was great to me (brilliant in the live version). Whatever gripes people have about him are irrelevant to me, I like the song. Yes the video had a decent budget, but even without the video this would be a good song. Kind of like Better Love. Actually the fluffy indigo dress in the video and movement back and forth in the bridge 'come over' section reminds me of the Better Love video. X My Heart and Better Love are good examples of decent modern pop and Sugar can join those.

Another thing is that some just concentrate on the 'bop' section, but the other parts are at least as good maybe better. It does switch things up during the song, from the teasing opening, through the passionate 'come over' bridge, and the heavy more folk sounding bop part. The middle section holds the music back nicely till that climax that melts into the final dance at the end. What puzzled some was how they used that dance part to frame the 'come over' bridge in the first part of the song, but the chorus is obviously the instrumental. And that's fine, they did some good dance moves to that too.

The semi performance was ok, though I don't know why they felt the need to change things. The first verse doesn't have to be done in a breathy manner, the screech part isn't terrible but the one word 'sugar' drop was so effective in the original version. I don't think she even needs to hold the note that long at the end. The shout to the audience is actually done ok I guess, though I don't know why this habit has spread like wildfire through the songs this year. It's always been an annoyance of mine when presenters address 'Europe' endlessly when the performers go beyond that, let alone the audience being even more worldwide. And now we have the performers doing it during songs too.

It's almost like people are less thinking about the songs this year and more the performance. With some you can understand, the Isreali song probably needs the whistle notes as while the chorus is catchy the song is really quite average. But Sugar is easily a good enough song without needing any extras to try and boost it.

This song will last and it is afterall a SONG contest, and I like Natalia's sassiness and fun as well.

Someone should steal her mic before she goes on stage and let the instrumental and dancers do the work, because that beat is quite infectious.

But then again, I caaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAn't wait to see the reactions of my friends tonight when that final note comes around

OMG please do! Show us your inner Natalia! There is room for more "Sugar" human billboards than simply @NikolaiMoller and I. :p
Great idea, tuorem, but I must admit I prefer originality. That's why I put a huge signature of Natalia, but a new avatar of JK from Serbia. I am sure you know her. And if not, what ESC lover you are if you don't know who is Jelena Karleuša?

Unexpected to say the least. Though you just have to love her as a person…. So clumsy. (And I still think the song is bomb)

During Russia's voting, I tried to guess who they'll give their jury 12 jury points, I was like "presumably not Ukraine" and jokesd that I guess Moldova, but then they actually gave their 12 to Moldova. :ROFLMAO:
