Babe, are you hiding? Are you alright?
You look like an angel, that fell from the sky
And boy you keep talkin', massaging my ego
With your unoriginal pickup line

Hell no, I'm not your honey
Hell no, I don't want your money
Got it wrong, I ain't into dummies
No-o-o-o

So baby, it's not a maybe
Yeah, I'm too good to be true, but there's nothing in it for you
So if I show some skin, it doesn't mean I'm giving in
Not your baby

Je me casse, je me casse
If you don't get it (Je me casse)
Je me casse, je me casse
I'm not your baby

Boy, are you pouring that drink in my hand?
Thinking if I'm drunk then, I'll give you a chance
Boy, you keep buying and complaining so stop trying
Not gonna give it up and change my plans

Hell no, I'm not your honey
Hell no, I don't want your money
Got it wrong, I ain't into dummies
No-o-o-o

So baby, it's not a maybe
Yeah, I'm too good to be true, but there's nothing in it for you
So if I show some skin, it doesn't mean I'm giving in
Not your baby

Je me casse, je me casse
If you don't get it (Je me casse)
Je me casse (Je-je-je me casse)
If you don't...

Ladies, if you feel like flaunting tonight, it’s alright, it's alright
Ladies (Ladies), listen to me!
Listen and go right ahead, show you're shining

If you don't get it, if you, if you dont' get it (Je me casse)
If you don't get it, if you, if you don't get it
Excuse my French

Baby, it's not a maybe
Yeah, I'm too good to be true, but there's nothing in it for you
So if I show some skin, it doesn't mean I'm giving in
Not your baby

Je me casse
Je-je-je me casse
I'm not your baby

Can I ask all you guys a genuine question? I'm really interested.

Now I try very, very hard to detach my appreciation from any artist or whether I think a particular country has a great thing going, from the particular entry and just go with, do I like the song and the complete package on the stage. I realise this isn't probably the normal way of doing things, but I find it the fairest way to go about things, otherwise, it's not really a song contest, it's just a popularity contest and obviously, some countries are going to just win every time.

Now, my question is this, if Destiny did not have the reputation amongst fans that she does, or if it was any other singer performing this entry, would you enjoy it as much? Pick somebody, anybody who could credibly have performed an ESC entry from Malta. With one of these fan-adored singers, it can sometimes be a little tricky to cut past the "I love this because it's X person" and to the "I love/like/dislike/hate this because", if that makes any sense.

I'm genuinely having some trouble deciding what I think here. I imagine that I probably would have the same problem with Norway this year, had MGP gone a different way and I think maybe the whole "yeah, Samanta Tina finally made it!" might be obscuring my feelings on Latvia too. And the inverse happened to me in 2016 with '1944' because I was all, "Jamala's coming back to an NF, yeah!" with a song that turned out to be the exact opposite of 'Smile' in every conceivable way and made me sit there for 3 minutes in stunned silence and then become convinced it was going to win the Contest, as indeed it did (only time I've ever called a winner pre-Finals night).

I'd really love to hear people's take on this question.
I have no investment in Destiny's career outwith this contest. Heck, I haven't even bothered to search for her winning JESC song (or any JESC song since Maria Isabel won for Spain way back in the dark ages!)

My :12: ranking is based on the song itself - it's composition and dynamic presentation and the excellent vocal performance that Destiny gives. If this was sung by any other Maltese singer, so long as the production had the same spark and energy and the vocals were delivered with as much gusto, I would still have this right at the top of my rankings.

But I do get why you have asked that question since artist/group bias can be a very hard thing to get away from.

For me this is the obvious winner. So fresh, charming and fun. You just know Destiny will knock it out of the park live with all that charisma and stage presence too. So glad she managed to improve on last year and deliver something new at the same time!

I found this very mediocre at first listen, but it's a grower

Our girl Destiny is not a little girl anymore, giving us some sass and sexy attitude and i'm here for it xheat

I wanted the chorus to go bigger tho

Tumblr, mostly.
Have been listening to this baby all morning, and I'm still astounded by how much I like it. Everything just... works? Electroswing has no right to be this jaw-droppingly awesome.

Upgrading to a :12: and possible season fave to be honest.

Well, I am a fan of eurovision but perhaps not that big of a fan as up till yesterday I had no idea who Destiny was. Guess I hadn't payed much attention to Malta's entry last year - I'm never very interested in Malta tbh.
Anyways, as an unbiased fan I can tell you that, surprised at the rise of Malta in the odds, I rushed to listen to the song and felt like facing a bit of disjointed muck. I was, and still am, flabbergasted, although I have had things explained to me since.

Not happy, but hoping the proper order of things is replaced soon, when present hysteria has died down and people recover their senses.

P. S could very well do without poor old Samanta as well 🙄

Can’t get enough of this song! It’s just so much fun to listen to. Really wasn’t expecting it from Malta this year but couldn’t be happier to see them soaring in the odds. Obviously, many people feel the same way!

I didn't know who Destiny was until last year, and I don't know anything about her outside of ESC. I see she's apparently won JESC, but since Norway for some reason has decided to not be part of that, I have no knowledge of what's going on there. So me thinking Je Me Casse is a great song has very little to do with who's singing, and a lot to do with me liking what I hear.

But I see your point, as I was very hyped about Russia last year, because it was Little Big, and I've been a big fan of them for several years. I have no idea how I would have judged Uno if it had been performed by someone else. But, being a big fan of someone can also backfire. I was also very hyped when I found out Darude was performing for Finland in 2019, but that was a BIG disappointment. Didn't like his entry at all, mainly because Sebastian Rejman sounded horrible live, and there is a chance I judged Look Away too harsh, simply because I expected more from Darude.

The bottom line is really quite simple, do I like what I hear or not? In Malta's case, the answer is yes this year.

I am sorry if it comes across as rude but why nearly all female singers from Malta are chubby or flat-out obese? I have noticed this trend at the ESC.

This is a phenomena around the world with "Island-people", I think Fiji or American Samoa is ranked the "most obese" in the world... maybe fish oil products from an early stage in life (since seafood is common)? xshrug

But then again seafood is also common in coastal countries like Portugal and Greece, and they're pretty slim...

And no, this is no attempt at "fat-shaming", it is simply not healthy for a young person to be too overweight (or anyone for that matter), so let's be medically real here. But other than the weight, I am always surprised how an 18-year old girl can look like she's at least 35yo (maybe the weight adds to that I dunno?).

I'll say, yes. I've experienced it, but it was also because I had a terrificly awful taste in fashion back then, and it shows. To whoever styles Destiny in this MV, you can do better than this!

Actually I think you are somewhat right, islands have this tendency, partially because their diet, especially before globalisation, was really low-variety or based in lots of preserved food that is required in times of isolation. Its a heavy generalisation, but it could be that.

I mean some Island nations (not all of course) are topping the global statistics on obesity, so there must be something in the food culture I would guess.

If we look at Scandinavia, Icelanders have a tendency to also be "heavier" than the rest it seems...

Why Malta are you always so late with Spotify?

If I remember, "Chameleon" was released on Spotify AFTER the actual contest

The first time the chorus came in, it surprised me in a negative way and I didn't like it, but by the end of the three minutes I loved it, making it my #2 after Bulgaria, so I can confidently give :10: points. I would love it if Destiny were the first person to win JESC and ESC, she deserves it!
Ok so I've listened to it about 50000 times since release and I love it more and more the more I hear it, so I'm upgrading it to a :12:, its amazing love it!
