My own ranking, review of the SF songs from Pabandom! And some style, fashion, stage etc. commentary.
My top 5 rn.
1. Sentimentai
2. Into Your Arms
3. Not your mother
4. Call me from the Cold
5. How to get my life back
Lolita Zero - Not your mother = 8/10 - It is cool, edgy and deadpan at the same time. Already iconic with that evil drag queen styling. I didn't know I needed this but I clearly did.
Monika Liu - Sentimentai = 9/10. It's a complete package, starting from the song ending on the performer. Glamorous chic style from the 70s successfiully revived here. The melody sticks me with me, and the instrumental is so pleasant, is it a xylophone that so beautifully completes in the chorus? It might be. Oh, and beautiful Lithuanian language is an asset here in my view.
Gintarė Korsakaitė - Fantasy eyes = 6/10 - Kinda latin sounding, but with nothing that screams hamfisted to me (like some random-ass Spanish lyrics being thrown in there, like in many Eurovision and not only 'Latin' songs). Enjoyable as it is, but not something that I'd like to see representing Lithuania as there are clearly better choices to go with so hopefully the juries and the televoters will vote accordingly. Another good thing is that she can dance and feels comfortable with the song.
Gebrasy - Into your arms = 8/10 - I love it too, the melody is so ethereal, simple and also haunting and minimalistic arrangement works wonders here for me. I enjoy a lot the contrasts in volume, something about it moves me. I find the studio version though superior, but his live vocals are not bad actually. He hits the notes but it is not that smooth ... and here smoothness is a great thing. They could have done something more with the staging as there are clearly conditions for it here presentas other artists showed, and while Gebrasy looks handsome in a suit I would go for something bolder.
Queens of roses - Washing Machine = 4/10. It is errr ... not my cup of tea completely, borderline ewwww. category for me. They have fun on stage at least, but it is not a good chance for Torino at all.
Juste Kraujelyte - How to get my life back 7/10. It is sophisticated and it sounds radio-friendly too. I like how Juste and her backing singers, dancers present themselves on stage. The leathery black clothes are spot on, and I think the song is inspired by music of Depeche Mode which is a good thing for me as I enjoy them. The live performance is really strong
Erica Jennings - Back to myself = 4/10. It did not grip me at all. I enjoyed the dancers performance more than the song itself.
Augustė Vedrickaitė - Before You're 6ft Under = 5/10. I like a good rock song, but this one is ... just there. But at least it adds some different flavour to Pabandom I guess so it's a good thing I suppose.
Ruta Loop = Call me from the Cold = 7,5/10. It is so chill and contemporary sounding in a good way! I wish though the melody would be less repetitive in this song or that her voice would get slightly more powerful, energetic in some parts of it. I love the staging here, she makes a good use of the LCD screen and the lights. She's like a Lithuanian Loreen in a way.
Emilijana - Illuminate = 2/10. I like music that is bold and this one is, but the chorus is awful and destroys it for me. It is like fingers scratching on a chalkboard ... also the sound mixing could have been more subtle in this track for my liking.
Urtė Šilagalytė - Running Chords = 6/10 - It is quite epic, would fit as a song closing the movie. The climax of the song though drones a little already. The singer has a good vocal control.
Vilija - 101 = 4/10. Overall it is not bad, but also forgettable. It sounds like a background music, some sort of chic elevator jingle stuff. Those white clothes magnify the blandness and do not help to leave a lasting impression of it sadly. At least it is not flat-out dreadful like ATTTTEEEENTIOON! was for me.
Elonas Pokanevič - Someday = 3/10. No thanks, it's objectively a well-crafted song but I find it severely lacking in any appeal for me.
Mary Mo - Get Up = 5/10 I like the direction for which she's going here, but it overall seems lacking. It reminds me a little bit Kasia Moś representing Poland back in 2017. Strong vocals, and also a fairly dark song to match.
Joseph June - Deadly = 5/10 - This is cringy, but also effortlessly joyful and unpretensious. I can't help but smile when experiencing that. The live vocals could have been better though, a lot of dud notes in the heat.
Titas and Benas - Getting Through This =5,5/10. It's a low-key bop, I don't mind it all. Quite 90s sounding, and they look good together on stage. I did not cringe at all.
Moosu X - Love that hurts = 5/10 - I am on the fence with this one. I like the arrangements, his vocals, but the verses are well ... bad in my humble opinion.
Ieva Zasimauskaitė - I'll be there =4/10. Blah, it is I guess ... pretty but goes nowhere and is too saccharine for my liking. Please, Lithuania don't send her again this year.
