Thought I owed it to myself and glorious Lithuania to properly catch up with their NF, and I'm very glad that I did. As usual there are lots of interesting tracks and styles that would be hard to find in any other selection, and some incredibly captivating performances.
Lolita Zero was astonishing. What a dark, moody piece of electronic music with visuals to match. Would be a dream to have such a delicious synthwave entry at the contest. I was captivated by her performance.
Monika Liu was really good. Lithuania sending an Italo disco inspired track to Eurovision in Italy would be a moment. Actually I think it would be risky of them, same applies to Lolita, but both would be risks worth taking.
Some other nice tracks here. Fantasy Eyes is a great slice of throwback R&B and very well performed. Into Your Arms I think has a certain charm to it. I feel as though I shouldn't like it as much as I do but something about it is clicking with me. I prefer it more than Gebrasy's attempt last year, which itself wasn't too bad. Back to myself has a crazy instrumental. The synths are wild. This is hyper and fun. Washing Machine had a Girls Aloud vibe to it. Again, very fun and creative!
Before You're 6ft Under is perhaps the most well performed song here. Augesté has amazing stage presence and confident vocals. If only the song itself matched but it's not bad. How To Get Your Life Back is interesting. Reminds me a bit of a particular Zola Jesus track. Call Me From The Cold is almost there. The performance is captivating and I wondered if this could have been the next Make Me Human as it started, but it's nowhere near that level composition wise which is a shame. Still alright.
The chances of Lithuania picking something decent to great seem high, that is so long as Ieva doesn't snatch it. I could at least understand the fuss behind When We're Old. Her song this year is musical wallpaper.
