Oh ok, I really disagree with the way you are assessing this. I believe it's the other way around, modern music places so many constraints on a melody for stylistic reasons that it's extremely hard to write something that works. It has to be short and powerful. There's no space to work with really. Every note has to be perfectly placed. This is exactly why you have these songwriters that pretty much solely specialize in writing such melodies.
