Cyprus isn’t technically Europe whilst a bit of Kazakhstan is but if you asked random people on the streets of Europe to name European nations what one of the two do you think would come up?

Yeah, but that's because of lack of education simply. Although, as discussed already, there is a political/social/cultural/economic dimension and then there's a strict geographical one. The problem as I see it is the centric view that dismisses countries because they don't fit the Europe that some are familiar with, but again here it's about educating ourselves and understand that Europe is much more diverse.

Agree on the hypocrisy but though I’ve seen plenty of people that don’t want Kazakhstan in on geographic distance claims happily have Australia in which makes zero sense

Agree, but again this is because of a Western centric view, nothing else.

In Greece we say "Come on, put on your wine a bit of water", and in means don't be so strict.
So come on EBU "put water in your wine"

I don't understand, this is Eurovision SONG contest, why would you want a country out? I want as many countries possible because I love music and If more countries are to enter, Eurovision would have more songs, and I would love that, because music is the only reason why I watch Eurovision,I wanna hear the songs,so I don't want any country to leave and I want more countries to enter because this would mean more songs,I don't care about politics, about wars, about problems that the country has in Eurovision, because Eurovision isn't the place to care about that,I care about the song, because this is a song contest,Eurovision should be a place about diversity and that these things aren't talked because is a song contest, why envolve these things? In a song contest, why would you not want more songs? For me if Kazakhstan joins,I will be happy because we would have one more country and one more song, simple.

I don't understand why involve politic or these things, really,I didn't expect to see these things being involved in a place where it shouldn't be,a song contest.

In general I disagree with you because in the principle how the entries of each country are chosen they always represent indirectly the choice of the state as its public tv however I also think KZ should be allowed to participate. It would be important for them and who knows it might have positive aspects to get exposure in occident countries.

I understand but i just love music in general, you know? I want as many countries as possible, mainly because this means more songs to listen. Music is so good in general that i think you can try to forget about these things and just listen to the songs, because this is what eurovision is supposed to be right? United by music? What i mean is,i like music so much that i don't care for these things, but obviously if you don't want a country participating for however reason,it's your opnion, what you think, you can not want to,and you can want to,is perfectly fine, but in my opnion is not right to bring politic into a song contest that was supposed to unite people though music,i don't like to talk about politic in general too,so this is also why.

The fact is some choices should be made: a maximum of 46 countries CAN experience Eurovision every year. Why you may ask? Well, because otherwise the shows will last for hours and hours and people will lose all interest or get bored by the competition itself. It's a tv show and too much is too much... And if I have to choose, I'd prefer those 46 places are occupied by countries which have some history in the competition to begin with: that's why I love the fact Luxembourg is back this year, that's why Kazakhstan not taking part leaves me quite indifferent. I would love countries like Monaco, Bosnia or Turkey back more than to see Usa, India or China debuting tbh.

Another point is Eurovision Song Contest is not only a song contest: that is what the majority outside Europe may think, but it's not, it's just a false assumption. For the broadcasters Eurovision is business and those participating are interested in that kind of business, in that product, exactly the way it is. An Eurovision allowing every single country in the World in it will decrease the interest in most of the European countries, because they may think: "What's the point of being in Eurovision or in the EBU itself if they create products where they can invite everyone outside of it? What's the point of putting tons of money in a product which has lost his original meaning?". And I will agree.

I understand what you are talking about,I started watching Eurovision recently,I didn't know about it until the end of 2022,I started watching because i liked the idea of countries disputing in a contest with songs, only because of that,I don't know about Eurovision,I don't know what is going inside Eurovision,I have never been in a Eurovision show and I don't want to be,I prefer to watch online. And I know this may sound strange but is true, even if the show had more hours I think I wouldn't mind because I really love music.

A counterpoint here is that it looks like we will have a gap of 8 or so countries this year, and if those countries with history don't want to or can't afford to come back, I feel like we shouldn't then say 'we don't have room for you, sorry'. Banking on countries coming back who have not made indications that they will will only lead to disappointment. (Note that I am not advocating, for, say, American or Chinese participation, but for getting countries within the EBU sphere chances to show what they can bring.)

And the counterpart to what you are saying is the fact that if we fill that 8 spots with big markets, those European countries will never find their place again in Eurovision because EBU invitations are pluriennal and even if they were trying to comeback they wouldn't because their spot is occupied by someone else. You wil totally lose the possibilità to have them back because if this happens they will NEVER return, even after the invitations expire.

EBU is aware of this thing, otherwise they would have already filled those spots.
