Maybe the Kazakh voting in jESC can calm down some of the people who thought Russia would be guaranteed the top points? xthink

Do you really compare the Juryvoting in JESC with the Televoting in ESC?

It's an indication, not a direct comparison. But it's so far the only thing we have to judge Kazakhstan's behavior in an ESC-related affair, not saying that it would stay the same for the adult version but certainly they don't look at all very biased (can't say the same for other juries though...)

The fact that Russia has never gotten (TV only 2004-2018 in those years the EBU released the Results) in the Grandfinal less than:

10 Points from Armenia (only once 2009, otherwise always 12)
8 Points from Belarus (only once 2009, otherwise always 12)
8 Points from Azerbaijan
7 Points from Moldova
7 Points from Estonia
7 Points from Latvia
6 Points from Lithuania
6 Points from Israel
6 Points from Georgia
4 Points from Ukraine (One exception 2005, otherwise always 8-12)

is a much much better Indication for Kazakhstans Televoting at ESC. Its not only Russia, also Countries like AZ/AM/UA whose Votingpower is far above Average will probably become even stronger

Not wanting to dance anymore, but I must dance
...Alan Azhibayev, Chairman of the Board of Khabar Agency confirmed that negotiations on the possibility of Kazakhstan’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 as a special guest were taking place...According to Alan Azhibayev, Kazakhstan still has a chance to get to the Eurovision 2019 as a special guest but this will have to be decided within the framework of the EBU.

“I recall Australia, which for a very long time, almost 40 years, had been seeking participation in the Eurovision and only recently they managed to get there first as a special guest, and only then as a full participant. We also should go step by step. First we need to get the guest status to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, then we will have more chances. But all this is done in stages, which unfortunately are not revealed to us, but at the same time we are being asked to fill out all the necessary documents for their consideration."

Would "special guest" mean a performance a la Jessica Mauboy back in 2014 in Denmark? xthink

Well, at least it's good to know they actually have relationships with the EBU now, even though it took years of broadcasting, an alledgedly unilateral decision to invite them for JESC, and the support of the Belarusian broadcaster to get there.

"However, at this stage none of the interval acts for Eurovision 2019, nor Kazakhstan’s bid for full EBU membership have been confirmed."(wiwibloggs)

Haven't we had similar news in recent time, like "we will make our debut in 2019"? I think I can remember at least 2 occasions in the last two years where the kazakh side announced concrete steps toward a participation, then the EBU said vaguely "maybe later, but definitely not now" and finally nothing really happened. I'm curious to see if this time it's different, with the things being as they are, I rather say we'll not see them in the next years...

It's getting ridiculous, tbh.
Kazakhstan has a huge European diaspora and geographically speaking, it's "more European" than countries such as Cyprus and Armenia. I don't get those EBU area rules points either since the EBU has already extended the EBU area once to get the Caucasus countries on board.
Kazakhstan is allowed to play soccer with Europe, why is singing together such a different story?
Also, Kazakhstan has proven that they can submit quality entries and that the juries can vote fairly (JESC). Of course, like other members previously mentioned it, it's just an indication but still, I expected them to give high points to Azerbaijan (and not zero points) as well as a high score for Russia, no matter what.
+ If Russia submits a popular and well-established and well-known artist to Eurovision which is known and well-received in Ex-Soviet countries, who are we to judge? Maybe high televoting points will be justified? (see Russia 2015, 2016?).

According to Eurovoix and Dziennik Eurowizyjny, Kazakhstan already prepares its second Junior Eurovision participation. Another national final is in the making!

I still don't get it why Kazakhstan hasn't become a full member of the Eurovision family since it's cleary interested, partly European and has the means and power to deliver great songs and performances.
EBU, hurry up! What's the point of letting a country participate in JESC and Young Dancers but not in Eurovision?

Renaming the capital with the president's name is so European!

Do you really think Belarus Russia Azerbaijan and Armenia are more democratic and less dictator than Kazakhstan? Then let’s kick them all out.

It's a shame they changed the name, "Astana" was one of the best sounding capital names out there... the new one... not so much...

But while it might look a bit.. odd... it's hardly the first time a capital is named after a president / founder or whoever... ever heard of Washington for instance? As far as I know this guy has been the president since Kazakhstan became an independent nation-state which it has never been in the past so while he was also a dictator, I think he clearly has an important role in this "young" state's history...

Nursultan is super meh compared to Astana. :'D Astana looked and sounded nice, it rolled of the tongue well also when speaking, Nursultan doesn't. Oh well. It will always be Astana for me.

edit: even their transition to latin script looks a mess.
