Re: Japan | 日本 | WV76: Jun Maeda - Distant Years | WV77: Suggestions NF (Open Now!)

Oh, and one more quick thing I thought I should mention, just to be transparent and all that: I'm planning to submit a set of votes myself, with the same weighting as anyone else's. I've got a few reasons - the suggestion format gave me a little less say in things than usual, other people have the power to vote for their own songs here anyway, and I do have my favourites in the lot, despite enjoying them all.

Mostly, though, it's because it seems fun, especially since I've got the opportunity here to rank the whole list of songs that other people have recommended! :D

So yes, that'll be a thing that happens.

Excellent. Mine is the "atmospheric" song xheat

Your mom's song might be amazing too, it will be a pleasure to vote in here.

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV76: Jun Maeda - Distant Years | WV77: Suggestions NF (Open Now!)

Seeing as this is a longer NF than my usual ones, I obviously need a new voting system. So I think I'll steal one I've seen around in a bunch of other WV NFs: please send your votes using the Eurovision point system (12 to 0, excluding 9 and 11), missing out on any three values of your choice. No value can be used twice, including the 0. Highest points to your favourites, of course. So some examples might include 12-10-8-5-4-3-1-0, or 12-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.

Basically someone else stealing my system :p At least you're admitting your felony publicly ;)

::seen approves of this NF wholeheartedly and will be voting in't over the weekend! :D xcheer

Alright, we now have three sets of votes! Thanks to the lovely ::seen, :kr:, and of course the hottest voter of all, :jp:

The scoreboard is looking very close for now: almost anybody could take the lead with a single set of votes!

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV76: Jun Maeda - Distant Years | WV77: Suggestions NF (Post #1059)

Another edition of WV is over so soon! Much love again to all those who helped Japan reach the final. As expected, the draw proved to be rather helpful, pushing me across the line in 7th despite a much lower 15th-place REJU ranking.

Once in the finals, we managed 26th place with 98 points - not a particularly high score, of course, but still one I'm happy to have for such a beautiful little song. Thanks in particular to:

Now, it's everybody's favourite part of the WV pre-season: NF mention spam! We're four voters into my Suggestions NF and things are close up top, so I'm giving a mention here to anybody who's either got a suggestion included or has voted in any one of my last two NFs. Anybody else is of course welcome too, though!

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV77: Suggestions NF @ Post #1059 (DDL: 09/04 04:00CET)

I've decided to set my NF deadline for 4:00AM on April 9 - i.e. the deadline day for entry submissions - just to give any stragglers or night owls a final chance to send things in before I wake up for the day myself. Things are still close, with only a few points separating the top few entries - so get voting, and help me decide on a winner!

My deepest apologies to you, for I'm not going to vote because today is a holy busy day for me. :(
Anyway, good luck with what you send, Zobo! xcheer

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV77: Suggestions NF @ Post #1059 (DDL: 09/04 04:00CET)

And so the deadline has passed! Lots of differing opinions here, and things ended up super-close, but we do have a winner. On top of my own set of votes, thanks to ::seen:kr::kant::is::paci: for helping me decide! Final scores, with the bottom three songs revealed, are as follows:

The full reveal of the order will be after the song reveal in either WV77 or WV78, depending on whether I decide to send second place to WV78 (which will depend on my free time at that point). Just know... it was close!

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV77: Wagakki Band - Senbonzakura

I'm very short on time, so instead of the usual verbose green room post, let's go for a quick one! As you've probably seen already, the (very barely) winning entry from my WV77 suggestions NF was... Wagakki Band, with Senbonzakura!

So for a quick rundown: Wagakki Band started out mostly by covering vocaloid songs (i.e. songs produced using entirely synthesised vocals, intended for amateur composers, those who can't find a vocalist to perform their song, or anyone who just likes how it sounds). Senbonzakura is one of these cover versions, and was originally 'performed' by the vocaloid Hatsune Miku:

Wagakki Band's cover version, which amps up the production and adds a heavier ethnic twist, ended up becoming bigger than the original song - which was already a decent success in its own right! - and propelling the band to popularity, from which they have continued to produce both original songs and high-quality covers. This is still probably their most popular song, and it's a great one - I'm happy to send it!

Looking forward to WV78, I'm not 100% sure as to what I want to do for my entry. I still won't quite have time for a full-fledged, regular NF yet (that should start back up in June-ish), but I can either:

1) Send the entry that came a close second place in the suggestions NF (so one of either Hanamaru Pippi wa Yoiko Dake, Guren no Yumiya, Tonight, or Dareka Umi wo - of course I can't reveal just yet which came second),

2) Send the entry that would have won the NF if I hadn't submitted my own set of votes (yes, it wouldn't have been Senbonzakura - [insert drama here] - and it's between the same four I've mentioned above),

3) Go Melodifestivalen-style, holding a second chance round of sorts for the four remaining songs where I reset the scores to zero and allow everyone to submit votes again but abstain myself this time around, or

4) Just choose whichever hot internal entry pops into my head when the WV78 deadline starts to creep closer.

Any preferences? I'm happy to go with whichever of those four systems people would prefer. Though of course, keep in mind that your preference here can either force me to send your favourite song or doom it to the long, long 'maybe later' waitlist... let the mindgames begin

It's only just hit me that it's thanks to you I won WorldVision... I would have taken my break and probably not have brought forward this entry which I was actually saving for around Christmas time. Yup, it's all thanks to you............

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV78: Mystery internal selection

I live! Time for a bunch of haphazard catch-up, as has become a bit of a tradition in this green room lately. I've been snowed under by a lot of stuff at university, and it's not quite over yet; my apologies to all those who had lovely-looking NFs that I just couldn't get around to voting in. That said, I'll be (hopefully) done with university in a month, so I expect June onwards to be filled by long periods of nothing, and as such WV, while I search ineffectively for a job!

Anyways, Wagakki Band narrowly missed out (by only four points!) on reaching the finals. I was hoping I'd make it, as I love the song and was thrilled to see it win the NF, but... 9th ain't too bad, eh? Thanks to everyone who voted for the song, or otherwise supported it. I was going to compile a bunch of cool cover versions as a celebration if I made it, but... well, I didn't. So you get this version instead. You brought this upon yourselves.

For WV78, I ended up deciding to just go with an internal entry, rather than sending the runner-up of the WV77 NF or something. As such, I can now reveal those NF results:

RmlLVu2.png

As you can see, Senbonzakura barely scraped away with a win, and - well, the rest is history. Things were super-tight around the top, though, and I felt rather guilty upon realising that my own votes in the NF had changed the winner; as the right-most column shows, the winner without my votes would've been RainyWoods' suggestion Tonight. And in general, it feels a bit odd that my own top three ended up as the overall top three (I submitted my own votes first, but now it looks like I shuffled them around afterwards to calculate the winner I wanted! I'm innocent, officer, I swear!)

Regardless, the winner was sent, the usual NQ result was achieved, and the edition ended. As fate would have it, though, Rainy went on to win WV77 - and so, I thought, why not kill three birds with one stone and send a Rainy-styled entry* a) to repent for my sins, b) because he's hosting and it seems fun to copy his style and c) because it's a great song and I love it anyway? And so, I came upon my internally selected entry for WV78. I won't reveal anything else for now, apart from saying it's rather different to my usual style and quite a risky entry, but... look forward to it!

*In before either I've jinxed things and he hates the entry, or the mods reject it for some reason and go with my backup, which is a completely different genre and would mark the beginnings of #hipZobo.

Yes, your win was clearly all thanks to me. I demand that you reward me with a PQ and the glitteriest of all glitter gifs. xqueenbitch
