Re: Japan | 日本 | WV69: Yuuhei Satellite NF (Pg96)

:paci: has just voted in another mighty fine Japanese NF.

Side-Scrolling Shooter games you say? May my favourite of them all, the spectacular Darius series slay you all with with this hot trailer and it's life affirming theme song.

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV69: Yuuhei Satellite NF (Pg96)

Thanks to ::sthm and :paci: for the new votes! I'm up to five now, which is still a little low for comfort, but certainly a better sample size than three. Getting some lovely comments from people too!

Current scores are as follows:

30
28
24
21
19
18

So, while we've got a leader, it's still rather tight. One more set of votes could quite easily push #2 or #3 up to first, and with two sets everyone's got a good shot. Around 24 hours to go, so to those still interested, please do take a look!

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV69: Yuuhei Satellite (NF Closed)

The NF is over, and the winning song has been entered! With three more sets of votes heading my way in the last couple of days (including one scandalous late PM from daniels), we ended up at eight voters, so all's well that ends well. My sincere thanks goes out to :lond::is:::nb:paci:::sthm::mazo:mt::sc:.

At last count, the scores ended up at:

54
45
38
35
29
23

While there was a little disagreement, the winner still ended up with a decent margin, so hopefully most of you will be happy enough with it! While some songs here scored about as expected, I was honestly quite surprised by the results of some others. Much shock. I'll go into that more in-depth when I can reveal the actual song ranking, of course. Anyways, I look forward to the reveal!

All good! Thanks for the well-wishes. If it's any consolation, the winning song had a 9-point lead, so you couldn't have actually changed the winner (though a tie would have been possible) with just one set of votes.

On a related note - apologies to anyone else whose NF I missed! There were a hell of a lot of promising ones this time around, but I've been rather busy with university over the last week or two, so I missed out on a big chunk of things I really wanted to vote in. Hopefully I can go back to my usual 'vote in every NF' goal for next edition.

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV69: Yuuhei Satellite - Kachou Fuugetsu

WV69: Yuuhei Satellite - Kachou Fuugetsu

Iiiiiit's time for the latest edition of everybody's favourite WV show, Inexcusably Late and Verbose Japanese Green Room NF Results Discussion with Zobo! I... may need to work on that name. Or, y'know, try not to be so late next time. Since I already talked quite a bit about my WV69 artist back in my NF post, this should hopefully be a little shorter than usual. Still plenty of details to go over, though, for those of you (I'm betting two or three, tops) who actually enjoy reading through these short novels I call green room posts!

NF Results

umh11D6.png

Despite the relatively close scores - there was only a very small gap between the top two until the last couple of voters - return entrant Kachou Fuugetsu managed to take the NF win with an impressive level of agreement, sitting in the top two for 6/8 voters and scoring well overall with everybody except poor Ringdalen (sorry 'bout that!). Now, I had expected the song to fare well here; it's the only one (I assume) that anybody had heard before, due to having been in a previous NF of mine, and it was only a single point from first place back then.

Still, I was surprised to see such widespread support here for what I imagine is a rather musically difficult song to like, what with it being a six-minute long piece of atmospheric Japanese fusion that scrambles from one style to another. Nonetheless, I'm very much happy to have this as my WV entry for this 69th edition. For anybody who wants another listen: here's the winning song again!

Moving on down the list, we have Opposite World, which fared largely as I expected it would: middling-to-low scores from most voters, but pushed up high by top-scores from some Pot 9 members. Oh, and Ole's top score as well. I've gotta say, that's not one I was predicting. This is quite the different style compared to most of Yuuhei's stuff, and I find I very much have to be in the right mood for it, but it's a lovely piece and I'm glad to see it getting some fans here.

The more upbeat tones of Mujakisa e no Uwagaki did relatively well for the song, though it didn't seem to make the biggest impression - it was enjoyed by some, less by others, but didn't rile up opinions enough for a 1 or a 10. Only a few points behind, we had a quite different response to Koborezakura, scoring low with most voters but managing to catch a couple of 10s despite its fourth place. I'd have perhaps pegged both of these songs as coming a position or two lower (despite being a fan of everything here), but otherwise there were no big surprises.

In fifth place was Nureta Kami ni Furerareta Toki. The fast tempo and high notes didn't seem to do much for most of you, but the song still managed to win itself the Rainy Award, so I'm sure it's able to hold its head up high. Finally, in last place, we can see... Tsuki ni Murakumo, Hana ni Kaze? Whaaa? Okay, this was a shock to me. This is easily one of my top three songs by the band (alongside Kachou Fuugetsu and a Super-Secret™ entry I'm keeping in reserve), and it's perhaps the one I've listened to the most over the years. This was one I had marked down as a big contender for the NF win, and it was on my shortlist for internal selections. The turbo-rock/piano sound didn't go over as well as I'd expected, though, and the song was left with low scores from all but a couple of people. Much shock. Much surprise. Well, better here than in main WV - just another reason to tend towards NFs over internals, I guess!

One last thanks to all my NF voters for this edition! I must admit, I was a little worried when the votes were slow to come in at the start, and I figured from the start that an NF of full of long atmospheric fusion music might be a little hard to sit through for some people, but you all pulled through for me nonetheless. Lovely to have your support. xheart Now, for the lyrics of the winning song!

Is a matter of one's own judgement
If anything in our world is truly eternal
It's nature's beauty, its majesty

We regret,
Learn, and wander forth once more
Looking never to repeat
The mistakes we have made

History is wrought by
Our unchanging emotions,
Meandering, wounding each other, working together
To build our world

That which is righteous
Is naught but an illusion, misunderstood by even the wise
If anything in our world is truly eternal
It's nature's beauty, gentle and nostalgic

Is purity and cleanliness
the measure of justice?

Driven by our mistakes, we have learned
That love, unafraid of impurity,
Is what is truly righteous

We seek the embrace of nature's beauty,
Of that which is already within all life
It has no form, cannot be measured
Yet that is what makes it precious

And so we roam, in search of love

Even a heart in mourning
And a fearful kindness
Must be of nature's beauty, held within all life
Stay beautiful, wherever you go

Stay beautiful, into eternity

*The first four lines are very difficult to translate entirely, due to wordplay and cultural references. The song's title 華鳥風月 (Kachou Fuugetsu) is actually an old poetic Japanese idiom using kanji (Chinese characters). Each character has its own individual meaning referring to something in nature, and the idiom combines their onyomi pronunciations to refer to 'nature's beauty'. The song uses the kunyomi pronunciations, and gives a line to each.
(ka / hana) - 'flower' | (chou / tori) - 'bird' | (fuu / kaze) - 'breeze' | (getsu / tsuki) - 'moon'.

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV69: Yuuhei Satellite - Kachou Fuugetsu

Thanks for all the support! A little sad to miss out on the final for another time - I'm now at a slightly depressing 20% qual rate - but we came so close (one spot off, again) with a niche song in a bad running order slot, which I can't really complain about too much. My next NF is pretty much finished & good to go, so expect it up tomorrow. I'd like to see the final again, so I've put in a whole lot of my favourites - I think it's my strongest NF yet. Hoping to have your feedback again!

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV70: NF Open!

WV70: General NF #2

Introduction

I'd been umm-ing and ahh-ing between a lot of themes for this NF; there's so much I still want to send from Japan. When I went to draft up the NF yesterday, though, I suddenly felt like going back to the plan from my debut: throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. So we've got another general NF, full of variety! This time, though, I've gone all-out: I want to make this an NF of big, impressive songs. Every song here is from high up on my shortlist, is (in my opinion) good enough to send internally, and has a special something that I just love.

About the Songs

We head straight into full throttle this time thanks to GARNiDELiA's rock ballad ambiguous, then it's into the alternative with the falsetto-laden fusion song unravel. Third up on the list is the gorgeous instrumental Sis Puella Magica from Yuki Kajiura (perhaps best-known as the composer for Kalafina), and then take a complete 180 in tone with the loud & Engrishy dubstep rock song, database. Moving on, we have a song that I perhaps consider to be the very definition of 'emotional power ballad': the much-loved Toki wo Kizamu Uta, by Lia. We then end with the beautiful harmonies and uplifting melodies of vocal group Goose House's power-pop song Hikaru Nara.

Entries

#1: GARNiDELiA - ambiguous

#2: TK from Ling Toshite Shigure - unravel

#3: Yuki Kajiura - Sis Puella Magica

#4: MAN WITH A MISSION feat. TAKUMA - database

#5: LIA - Toki wo Kizamu Uta

#6: Goose House - Hikaru Nara

Recap

Details

The usual: send me your votes by PM, email (zobocamel@gmail.com), or Facebook if you've got me there, in the voting system 10-7-5-3-2-1, with 10 for your favourite song and 1 for your least favourite. Deadline will be decided based on the WV70 schedule, but expect it to be about a day and a half before the entry submission deadline.

Looking forward to your feedback & votes, and hoping you find something here to like!

Re: Japan | 日本 | WV70: NF Open! (Pg97)

Wheeee belated update! Sorry if I've been a little slower than usual in posting things - I'm kinda busy, being at the end of my university semester, trying to host the spinoff edition, lots of general crap. Thanks to :lond:::sthm:mt: for their votes in my NF! Apart from one song, the scores are currently quite close, and there are already some controversial entries. Current scoreboard is sitting at:
18
16
16
16
13
5 xheat

Anyways, with only a few days left before the entry submission deadline, it's mention-spam time! AdelAdel Amir Charlyje DaFlo daniels1000 EurovisionSmile Evangeline Gera11 John1 lavieenrose nekoisneko RainyWoods revallsay RomanFromRussia Salmon theCONWEL whiteshoes @anybodyelsewhomaybeinterested

As usual, no pressure, but I'm feeling a little low on votes at the moment and will take whatever I can get. In all honesty, I can't promise being able to return-vote with NFs like I usually, let alone look through all the others - as much as it pains me to miss out on so many great songs, I'm very low on free time for these next couple of weeks. Will try my best to get around to as much as I can, but no guarantees xcry

Either way, this is (in my personal opinion) my strongest NF yet, and with a lot of variety here, I think most of you should be able to find something you'll like. Would super-appreciate any votes/feedback, and will make sure to get more active around the forums when I can!

The NF deadline is set for October 13, 23:59CET.

Don't worry Zobo, you'll get my votes. I've still got a few more NFs to go through, i'm getting through them all slowly but surely. Looking forward to your one, knowing the quality of your NFs so far.
