Well, but I am trying to tell you why Melodifestivalen is as it as and that it's not really at all that representative, but you seem to think it is.

Anyways, there's nothing wrong with Pop, and ballads are actually quite often Pop as well, just slow songs. In the end music is subjective, you can do good or bad in all genres. My point it is getting a bit same-y and you're missing out on better and more interesting options in Sanremo, but if you want your country to only send male ballads (because it seems that is what you want?) then I guess good for you.

Tbh streams and views isn't the most important to me at least, it's cool and all if a Eurovision song becomes popular, but popularity won't determine my own taste, which isn't defined by other people's taste. And of course being a big country and these songs winning Sanremo and later entering Eurovision do help streaming numbers, that's just logical. But I didn't say these songs weren't popular in Italy, but then again does it mean that this is the only type of entries Italy should send? I guess this is where we differ.
None said that I would love to have only male ballads. Madness of Love. Soldi and Zitti è Buoni are amongst my preferred ones, if we consider only the Italian representatives. I've loved also many other Sanremo songs over the years. I listen different genres just to clear this point. My top 3 this year were Marco. Madame and Lazza. Last year M&B. LRDL, Colapesce Dimartino. As you can notice different genres.
For me all were worthy for a win. But since only one song wins I preferred Brividi and Due Vite and I wasn't the only one. In both cases all levels of the voting system preferred them, televoting included. So the italian public decided and not a mighty identity. The Italians decided what's more representative for them, the other so called contemporary songs didn't come even top 3, Lazza excluded. You may say that the italian public&juries are obsolete and retrograde but hey the same system voted for Soldi and Zitti e buoni.
Simply Brividi and Due Vite were more appreciated in the last two years.
Do i want my country to send another ballad this year? I don't know. It depends on the songs. I don't follow trends or genres but only feelings. If another ballad touches my heart I'll vote for it and support if it wins, the same with a rock, rap/trap, Pop or whatever song.
I started this conversation with you when I read your definition "boring male ballads" and I found it a bit superficial.
Everyone has its own opinion and taste.but since you are an accurate observer and analyzer I didn't expect that.
I remember in 2020 we exchanged our opinions about Andromeda and Fai Rumore. Three years later I can tell you that Fai Rumore has entered in the hearts of the italians, Andromeda no.
It is not the genre that counts but the emotions that the song is able to move.

Understand me correct here, Italians should definitely choose what they want to represent them, I'm just saying that we miss out on, imho, better and more interesting options. That's just my subjective opinion.

I'm not dismissing the taste of people, but it's apparent the general taste seems to be a bit conservative and skewed in favor of male acts. I'm pretty sure also being big names help here where's newer / not as big names struggle a bit (this is nothing unique for Sanremo, we see it in all selections).

I'm more surprised that the juries are not balancing with pushing more progressive entries.

I am not even against ballads per se, but it's more when I see what could have been instead.

Like I said, I actually enjoy the musical output of Sanremo these days, but I can only speak for my own taste.

Actually "Fai Rumore" is a pretty good ballad (I never said it wasn't as far as I recall), Elodie just had a more interesting song that felt fresher that's it, and I see the same pattern with the last two entries as well (more "conservative" choices over the more interesting ones). But like you said, if that's what Italians want it's up to them but I personally find it a bit miss.

There is nothing wrong with your point of view. Asking for more progressive, current or fresh entries is totally correct.
The only thing i questioned is your definition " boring male ballads" and i explained it why.
The other thing that maybe it's difficult to understand for a non Italian is the importance of the lyrics.
All the three last male ballads have a completely different meaning and the verses weren't ordinary at all. The unbearable silence when a love story is over, an intimate confetion between two friends and the complex dualism of consciousness and subconsciousness.
And these three ballads have different composition and style too, Fai Rumore more classic Italian ballad, Brividi is an urban ballad and Due vite a contemporary ballad.

To be honest, I am not sure how to describe them and "boring male ballads" was the first that came to mind

I know they are not identical, Fair Rumore and Due Vite do perhaps sound more "standard" to my ears (and I actually prefer them over Brividi which I can't stand lol).

Oh, you're most certainly true about lyrics and obviously since my Italian is more limited I only judge the music, I can't say much about lyrics. Frankly, I was never big on lyrics anyways (even if I understand the language), I am more listening to production, melody, composition and I guess this is where having something more "fresh and progressive" would be more interesting.

Just to close the point, I am not opposed to good ballads, both Fai Rumore and Due Vite (although the latter a bit less) are both fine ballads, but yeah like I said it's just when I see the potential in Sanremo for some more interesting stuff it's where I think Eurovision misses out and I just hope that this won't be like the norm for Italy moving forward because I feel like we move backwards in time to when this was expected from Italy and Sanremo, and perhaps it could discourage some artists and composers to take part when people will go for the "safer choices" in the end of it all.

Does it make sense?

As I said I understand perfectly your point of view and what you wrote it makes sense.
Maybe I "overrated" you a bit 🤣🤣🤣
I have always thought that your analysis were detailed and complete, lyrics included which as I said are a fundamental part of the italian songs.
Anyway, is stimulating sharing opinions with you. Thanks

New rules for Sanremo 2024:
1st evening (6th February): All the artists perform
2nd evening (7th February): half the artists perform, the other half presents the artists performing
3rd evening (8th February): the two halves reverse roles
4th evening (9th February): Cover
5th evening (10th February): All the artists perform, the top 5 performs again and a winner is chosen
The "opinion poll jury" (giuria demoscopica) is replaced by a radio jury, that will vote alongside with the press and the televoting

I said if before and say it again: Sanremo has so much potential and usually have some real good stuff, but for the past years we're once again back to boring male ballads...

The year a female ballad should have won Sanremo everybody, even in Europe, preferred the most classic, clichè and boring male ballad of them all... And yes I'm talking about 2015... I repeat myself: Malika (with the best song of her entire discography) or Annalisa (with arguably one of the best Italian ballads in the last 20 years) should have won Sanremo that year. But Europe loved Il Volo... much more than I do. So, Europe can't complain. I'm sorry.

It's the same when some Eurofans are complaining about Italy never sending women to the contest, which is hypocritical because the three worst results Italy had since it's return in the contest were earned by the three women soloists we actually send. So it's basically just saying "Please don't tank your women: send one of them so we will tank them for you later". Bizarre.

Some interesting changes. All songs performed on Night 1 now which mean all are on radio on the same night as well. It means Night 1 is going to be very long though.

Getting rid of the demiscopic jury will be too unpopular among the masses.

I think it's a good choice to have a radio jury since all the sanremese songs are aired by the radios. It's better to have their opinion then the demoscopic jury.
The public will have it's power too with 34% of the votes.
For sure next year will have a more contemporary top 5 since 66% of the jury is composed by people who chew music all the day.
Amadeus choices go never wrong.
All the winning songs during his artistic direction have been radio friendly and super hits in Italy.

As a German, let me warn you: "A radio jury" is a terrible, terrible, terrible idea.

My dream is for ALFA to win Sanremo 2024 and then go to Eurovision

Loreen instead is a novelty of 2023!
She's been singing the same songs squirming and screaming the same way for decades.
She has her own tradition for each country!

Italy is the most underrated country for me. They should have won 10 times already.

Most definitely in 2012, 2015, 2017 with a better staging, 2019, 2022 with a better staging, 2023.

2013 better than Denmark, 2018 better than Israel, but I would have still preferred other winners although 2018 was quite terrible overall.

2016 fell flat for me, loved it before the contest.

2011 no way, not even over Azerbaijan.
While I don’t agree with every single one of your mentions, I agree about 2017, 2019 and 2022, and in 2012 Nina Zilli came very close to my favorite. 2016 was a great song, just Francesca was too nervous and the staging was a bit too juvenile.

I haven’t really read nudie and A-lister’s conversation thoroughly, but can I say that I love what Italy and Sweden are bringing to this contest? xlove

"Nessun grado di separazione/No degree of separation" is not bad but it fell flat because it is maybe one of the most basic songs of Francesca's discography. She has a really unique style, but it wasn't displayed totally in that song. She has way better songs than that one, both musically and lyrically.

the only Queen who should represent Italy in Sweden for Eurovision 2024. In the interview for Vanity Fair, Annalisa says:

In discography the gender disparity is huge: there are very few women in the charts. What's the problem?
"For me it's a cultural thing. Why are musicians almost all male? Because when you're a kid, no one ever tells you: do you want to try playing the drums? No, they tell you: come on, sing. There are male and female things: the producer is male, the sound engineer is male, the backliner is male; the beautiful voice is female, unless it's songwriting, then it's male territory».

Have you ever experienced an episode of sexism?
"Several. On social media you have to be dressed in a certain way, act in another, if I sing a song it's a little song, if a male does it, the judgment is different".

«The lightness that I will continue to praise from now to the end because to having fun can send very important messages and women are not always allowed this. If you choose lightness and you're a woman, it's automatic that people think it's not your choice».

2024 could be her year... I still preferred some of her older stuff to her new songs to be honest, but still she is so talented and I will be really happy if she would finally win Sanremo.

I've listened to some songs and watched some live performances by Annalisa and I don't like it. Her music doesn't tell me anything and vocally it's limited (you understand it by observing live). About her, the "best songs" are "Bellissima" (with a nod to the 80s) and "Disco Paradise" (with a nod to the 90s - the typical summer songs sung by TV valets). If Italy sends Annalisa she will come out of her usual Top 10.
