What I really like about Fai rumore is the retro dream pop element that's there in the very distant background but doesn't make itself fully known until we reach the instrumental bridge part with the Ooooo's and the achingly beautiful melancholy of those weeping synths. It's really taking us to the Twin Peaks Roadhouse bar for a slow emotional dance as fog covers the woods outside with a body wrapped in plastic on the side of a river near by. There's mystery in it and a darkness, but we're given a release if just for a moment. It's actually perhaps my favourite sound ever. Bands like Chromatics, Beach House etc I can give my body over to fully when they are in this mood. This element that Fai rumore's possesses really stops it from being yet another big sounding Italian ballad that's huge and with great production values, but kind of not doing much. This one is doing something a bit extra for me.
Fai rumore is totally my thing. It's just being presented to me in a bit of a bigger, more grander way than I'm used to which perhaps made it more difficult for me to instantly go "this is the stuff" at first. I think this is the stuff though, and despite there being nine other songs I wanted more, and warmed towards quicker, Diodato is a really lovely choice. Not such a bad ending at least for me after all.
I feel like I could actually hand over a 12 even right about now (certainly 10) which is ridiculous as I was literally stupidly peeved when the top 3 was announced. This should teach me not to be so dramatic in future and slow down a bit to think. I liked this song from the moment I heard it even. I had hope left.
Justice for Rancore though. Robbed king of Italian hip hop. Will sue.
