Re: ISRAEL 2019

And the drama goes on:

https://www.timesofisrael.com/eurov...ent-without-political-religious-restrictions/

Eurovision demands Israel host event without political, religious restrictions.

Organizers insist government commit to granting unlimited access to Israel, freedom of speech regardless of political opinion, allow general rehearsals on Shabbat

After representatives of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) toured the country last week for possible venues — naming Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Eilat as possibilities — its director sent an official letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the list of demands, Hadashot TV news reported Monday.

Israel is required, according to the list, to grant visas and let visitors travel in Israel with no restrictions, regardless of their political leanings.

The government must also grant absolute freedom of press and freedom of speech to all participants and all delegations during their visit, the letter said.

The EBU letter also demanded that Israel lift any religious restriction on holding events related to the contest on Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest, which begins Friday night and ends on Saturday evening.

The letter also demanded that the Kan public broadcaster be given complete independence in holding the broadcast.

While the organizers said the demands were standard, an unnamed government source was quoted by Hadashot as saying that “it seems the organization is very suspicious,” and that there was a reason for the demand that a government official guarantee they will be fulfilled.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan called on Netanyahu to reject the conditions. "I do not understand by what right the European Broadcasting Union has the audacity to come and make such claims
and demand, contrary to the legislation of a democratic state, that a person should be granted entry to Israel even if he works all day and all night to harm Israel so that it is boycotted and isolated," Erdan said.

Even ORF is reporting on its website. Alarm bells are ringing again?

Speechless. The EBU has no right to dictate such things to any country.

It didn't even surprise me.
It would be weird if baby-führer & his "dear friends" in the ORF board said nothing. Against Israel

absolute freedom of press and freedom of speech
Speaking of.

That was ORF board member btw

According to the EBU rules:

  • Neither selected artist nor any member of the delegation shall have any antecedents likely to prompt the host country’s national authorities to deny them access to the host country, in accordance with applicable national law.
Israeli minister should calm his tits down - if somebody violates the law they won't be allowed to the country anyway.

ps. But what do ORF's hypocrisy & Israeli hosting have to do with Israeli 2019 song & participant? xthink

Re: ISRAEL 2019

It was Netta who won the competition, but Nadav Guedj brought us the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv.

Re: ISRAEL 2019

Although Israel is the host country for ESC 2019, I think this thread should be used solely for discussing Israel's 2019 SONG. Any hosting issues can be discussed in separate threads elsewhere.

After Netta won with "TOY" in 2018, what will Israel choose in 2019. What's the betting they'll pick a "suicide song" to try and score near bottom of the table in the ESC 2019 Grand Final, and not have to host again in 2020? By that I mean the sort of song that wouldn't even have a hope of qualifying if Israel had to go through one of the semi-finals.

For the record, the last time Israel hosted in 1999, its entry "Yom Huledet (Happy Birthday)" finished 5th out of 23 participants with 93 points. One year thereafter (2000), Israel's "Sameach" (deservedly, thank goodness) finished 22nd out of 24 participants with just 7 points.

For the record, the last time Israel hosted in 1999, its entry "Yom Huledet (Happy Birthday)" finished 5th out of 23 participants with 93 points.

For comparison's sake:

2000 When Spirits Are Calling My Name, finished 7th
2001 Never Ever Let You Go, finished 2nd
2002 Runaway, finished 3rd

2003 Hello From Mars, finished 24th
2004 For Real, finished 4th
2005 Razom nas bahato, finished 19th
2006 Everything, finished 9th
2007 Leave Me Alone, finished 17th
2008 Oro, finished 6th
2009 Mamo, finished 11th

2010 My Heart Is Yours, finished 20th
2011 Taken By A Stranger, finished 10th
2012 When The Music Dies, finished 4th

2013 You, finished 14th
2014 Cliche Love Song, finished 9th
2015 I Am Yours, finished 26th
2016 If I Were Sorry, finished 5th
2017 Time, finished 24th
2018 O jardim, finished 26th

-11 songs finished on the left side of the board (ten of which were Top 10)
-8 songs finished on the right side of the board (4 finished in the top, 4 finished in the bottom, 2 finished last place)
-12 songs were a different genre/style from the previous year's winner
-7 songs were the same genre/style as the previous year's winner
-8 songs performed in the first half of the final (4 songs finished on the left side of the board, 4 songs finished on the right side of the board)
-11 songs performed in the second half of the final (7 songs finished on the left side of the board, 4 songs finished on the right side of the board)

TL;DR There's no clear-cut way for them to do a "suicide song". There's been entries that were different that did great (2000), but also entries that were the same as the winner that flopped (2018). In the end it'll have to come down to how the viewers/audience feel and if Israel are feeling ambitious enough to repeat for 2020.

*my brain hurts now*

I understand countries (broadcasters) not wanting to risk winning twice in a row with all the costs etc. involved, however to win twice in a row is very difficult to accomplish even with a good entry, I think they should still have self-respect and choose something worthy, I hope for something local in Hebrew, a nice ethno ballad which could still bring them a decent result but not risking another win (since at least the juries will hardly jump onboard).

20:00 CET.
HaKokhav HaBa L'Eurovizion. Show #1.

Gonnna mention only those that I liked.

Danielle Mazuz - Netta's backing vocalist. She sounds like a slightly faded version of Netta but I like her. I fully agree with the jurors. Can't wait to see her with a different kind of song though.

lulz, Keren swearing in Russian Vidbir set the trend

When they showed Mergui I was so ready to scream like a fangirl... but it was Nadav Philips. Quite nice guy, I totally see why they compare him to Mergui but I agree with Harel. + He knows how to look hot but I don't believe him, not impressed with his vocals.

Daniel Barzilai - he's cute, he definitely grabs my attention when he sings.

Shalva band - I like them :D Disabled band with charismatic lead singers. The blind girl repeated Toy's culmination vocals exactly like Netta o_0. Not the winners but they deserved to be in the next stage.
