Re: ISRAEL 2019
Small country, big egos.
Small country, big egos.
Why couldnt they do this agreement without all the drama?
Told you it was a storm in a water glass
all made just to sell more newspapers and gather more money
now, over to drama part 2, which countries will withdraw? ( is possible) I really hope no one withdraws but my feeling is that we will see a few withdraws
Much ado about nothing. What we call in Germany "Sommerloch" ("silly Season"). Well, I am ready for part 2.
So they filled the "Saure-Gurken-Zeit" (literally "sour cucumbers time", is there an English phrase ?) with something intriguing.
Thank you Israel!
Lemmeguess. The next drama? The next big mess? Of course, choosing the city to host the Eurovision Song Contest
BILLIONAIRE OFFERS TO HELP STAGE EUROVISION IN ISRAEL
With no budget for production of the extravaganza yet agreed upon, Canadian-Israeli billionaire Sylvan Adams has stepped into the breach. Sources close to Adams say that immediately after Netta Barzilai won the contest last May in Lisbon, granting Israel the right to host next year's event, he expressed readiness to do everything in his power to help make the Eurovision in Israel a success.
Adams already has major experience in bringing a big international event to Israel, having brought the opening legs of the Giro d'Italia bicycle race to Israel last May - the first time that parts of the race had been held outside Europe.
There is no way to host the Eurovision without rehearsals and activity held on Saturday, the European Broadcasting Union's Jon Ola Sand said upon completing a visit to Israel.
"To do the Eurovision song contest, you have to be able to work 24/7 for all the weeks - not only the production week and the rehearsal week but the weeks before when you build up the set design, when you adjust the venue," Sand, who is the EBU’s executive supervisor of Eurovision, said in an interview with Israeli public broadcaster KAN. "I regret to say there's no way Eurovision song contest can be hosted anywhere without having the possibility to work also through Saturdays. It's absolutely impossible and that's paramount for us."
Sand's interview came at the end of a several-day visit to Israel, which included stops in the three cities which submitted bids to host the Eurovision: Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Eilat. But by the end of the trip, Sand said that Eilat was already out of the running.
"We discussed their proposal, which I very much appreciated because it was thinking out of the box," said Sand. "Unfortunately, we had to decline their offer because the venue they proposed didn't meet our requirements."
So the race is down to just Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and the EBU is slated to announce the decision next week. Sand's comments about Saturday activity seem to indicate that Tel Aviv is the most likely option.
Sand also addressed concerns about boycott attempts against the 2019 Eurovision in Israel.
"We have had no serious talk about this, and especially not from our members ," he said. "They're all comfortable, they all believe that Israel can host this very well, they have no issues traveling here.
