With less than a month before the rehearsals of Eurovision 2014 commence, ESC Reporter was lucky enough to spend some time with this year’s Israeli entrant, Mei Finegold.

During our interview, Mei discussed what she hopes to bring to Eurovision as well as what her performance will look like.

Thank you for speaking to us, Mei! We are really excited about your perfomance at Eurovision!

Your song is called “Same Heart” – what is it about and what was the inspiration? Can you relate to it?
“Same Heart” was written by the talented Rami Talmid. It is a song about a strong woman confronting her past. I had to fight many fights in my life. I think everyone has a place in their heart that relates to the lyrics of the song.

Do you feel any pressure from representing Israel in the contest?
You obviously feel many things taking part in the ESC, :) but mostly, I feel lucky and excited.

Mei Finegold Israel

Your career ranges from an actress in musicals to a competitor on “Kokhav Noland 7.” How do you think those experiences influence and help your Eurovision bid?
I know I may be 32 years old, but I have performed on stages since the age of 5. My experience, I hope, will help me stand on the ESC stage with a lot of confidence and focus.

Are you planning any promotion or touring before Eurovision?
I would love to go on a promotion tour. Unfortunately, my busy work schedule doesn’t allow me to leave Israel. But happily, I am very blessed for being a busy actress and performer. I will do what ever I can. It could be a lot of fun.

“I think “Same Heart” has a lot of
female empowerment in its spirit”

What are you planning for your Eurovision performance?
I will be on stage with two amazing female dancers. I think “Same Heart” has a lot of female empowerment in its spirit and it will come out on the ESC stage.

What do you hope people will remember you for once Eurovision is over?
Hopefully for a good and powerful performance.

“I feel like I am raising a new generation
of ESC fans in my own home”

This is the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, are you a fan and if so how long have you watched?
I remember myself as a young kid, taping the ESC on video tapes and watching them constantly. You can say it is a childhood dream of mine to take part in the Eurovision contest.

I am raising a two-year-old daughter now. She is experiencing the whole ESC process with me and I feel like I am raising a new generation of ESC fans in my own home :-)

Do you have any favorite Eurovision songs from previous years?
There are so many!! I can’t even start to choose. Mostly, I love many of the oldies.

Have you heard any of the other Eurovision songs from this year? Which do you like?
I haven’t heard them all, so I didn’t choose a favorite yet. From what I’ve heard, they are all so amazingly good. I will catch up very soon and am sure I will make up my mind.

Have you ever visited Copenhagen?
No. I had visited more then 11 European countries, but it is going to be my first time in Denmark. Very exciting.

“I think family is the most important thing in life”

Other than music, what makes you happy and motivated on a daily basis? What career would you choose if you weren’t a singer?
The most important thing for me in life, which motivates me in every thing I do is my family. I think family is the most important thing in life and I have the most amazing husband and daughter. I feel like the luckiest person on earth every morning when I wake up with them. It gives me power to do anything I want and even if I weren’t a singer, I could do anything I put my mind into, as long as my family is with me.

Mei Finegold Israel 2

Do you have any plans for an upcoming album and tour after Eurovision?
I don’t think about it at the moment. My life is on the theatre stage. When I land back in Israel, a day after the ESC, I am already back on the Cameri Theatre stage. Very shortly after the competition, I am starting a new musical production at the theatre.

Obviously, I know plans are changing all the time in life, but these are my plans at the moment.

Do you have a special message for the readers of ESCReporter.com?
It became my message for readers in every interview I have, but it is an important one.

What I love the most on my experience in ESC, are the ESC fans. They love the competition so much and love you because you are a part of it. I had never experienced so much free love. It is amazing!!

So, keep with the free love! You are beautiful! Kisses to all and see you in Copenhagen.

Thanks again for your time, Mei! See you in Copenhagen!

Growing on me fast, she has amazing voice and the lyrics are pretty nice, but I still can't live with that mid instumental part. The song production should've been better. Though I know live it will be awesome, it's a dark horse, not only for top 5 placement but it might even win. :D

I just listened to this song for the first time. The intro is very attractive. The singer has a very heavy sultry voice, but this fits with the song. I like the language swift, a song should always be performed in the (or one of) the national language(s). Israel has undoubtely one of the better songs this year, even though at the end of the song, it becomes a bit too repetitive. But anyway, good luck, Israel!

That is the only thing I'd change in the song indeed, the last minute is a bit too repetitive. Anyway, the song is great!
