Eastern europe we love you do you like irish stew is unironically one of my all time favourite lines in a eurovision song, Wadde Hadde Dudde Da is my fav novelty song though
I thought at first the lyrics were "Eastern Europe, Swede's and Jews"

I would be more than happy to take stage irish again something like 2014 just fed up to the back teeth of bland
I think I'm in the minority on this one, but I actually really liked 'Story of My Life' from 2020. Much better than Maps IMO.
Lesley not a good singer though, even when not running on a treadmill. So not sure it would have qualified .

Anyway I agree with you I'm fed up too. I do wonder if TG4 managed the process would we get something a bit more interesting. Ireland is stuck in the past where Eurovision is concerned, bland Celtic Tiger shit.

My hope is RTE could convince someone Stiofán Ó Fearail to do ESC and give him full creative license whethere with his band Seo Linn or a solo act to make something special but with Kealy in charge I remain pessimistic.

The issue goes far beyond Kealy
The issue is 150% Michael Kealy. When it comes to ESC Michael Kealy is the man responsible and everything about what Ireland does is amateurish and low effort and that's all down to having a HoD that just isnt passionate about his job and out of touch with modern Eurovision. The main issue with higher ups is that they have fired his ass years ago.

Kealy is the symptom not the cause, it goes way way way way way beyond Kealy infact it goes all the way to the Dáil

He is both the symptom and the cause. He's a hopeless HoD and that's reflected in Ireland's results.
He has been HoD since 2013 we have been doing shit since the 1998 language rule change, he is hopeless but getting rid of him alone wont do anything for us

Getting rid of him will do a lot for us provided he's replaced by someone younger and more enthusiastic about the contest, since our fall we've had 2 HoD and they are both equally hopeless.

I don't think its a coincidence that Ireland's fall coincidently started as soon as Michael Kealy became the head of entertainment in 2001...

Get rid of him then what? RTE has fuck all funding and will never provide the NF with its own television program that it desperately needs, its going to be on the late late show forever

Get someone who actually has a pulse would be a good start. If that's the issue then why were the internal selection also rubbish? Everything about what Ireland does in Eurovision is amateurish and behind the times and that stems all the way down from the HoD. If money is the issue and not the HoD then surely the internal selection would be a lot better right?

In 2021 Ireland spent roughly 400k euro...that's plenty and more than enough to put together a competitive entry, money doesnt matter though when you have a dope steering the ship. No amount of money can buy common sense.

I think the culture of RTE may also be part of the problem, a lazy inefficient state broadcaster with overpaid 'stars' who get wheeled out over and over, few with any genuine broadcasting talent. Creativity/innovation at RTE is scarce on the ground.
I know they can only work with the submissions they get, but I worry that if a decent act came forward it (a) might not make the shortlist for the national final (b) would be let down with poor staging.
I know there are budgetary issues at RTE but jesus it's had so many opportunities to trim fat in other areas and doesn't.

Yep, I requested through the freedom of information the amount that was spent. They amount that is known for sure is 330k but that was without all the add ons plus payment's made to those involved. Add it all together and its roughly around 400k I would expect. That is more than enough to put together a competitive entry...

These are all issues but the main and overall issue is the HoD. Michael Kealy literally admitted in an interview with Indopendent.ie in 2017 that "The problem with the Late Late is that a lot of professional acts of any calibre are reluctant to come along and engage in that type of competition, which is understandable." so based on that the LLS should be completely written off as a option. I hear all these issues and they may be issues to an expect but at the end of the day the most important thing is having a good HoD, we have a man close to retirement who has a clue what he's doing as our HoD so is it any real surprise we are so hopeless? I listen on Euro trip to interviews with the Irish, Czech & Ukrainian HoD and hearing Michael Kealy compared to the others would almost drive you to the drink, its like they literally pulled a random person off the street, scarily out of his depth in the job and the only thing he's thought out is the excuses he's going to make when Ireland embarrass themselves in May.

If money is an issue then go back to internal selections, and do it properly and not the amateur fashion.
