What I've seen the reaction has been pretty 50/50. I still don't think :ie: will be close to qualifying. The song is too bland and unmemorable to stand out. Might avoid last place now though.

I find the whole thing quite sad so far, they were a reasonably well known Irish band who took a risk entering Eurovision and it seems to be going horribly wrong. Song bottom of most rankings, band looks uncomfortable, and now this Twitter trans row and the associated pile-on with all 4 members making their twitter accounts private.

I wonder are they already regretting taking the risk and if they don't qualify I wonder will they look back negatively on the experience.

I do think they made a mistake in entering with this song which is bland and not in line with their usual style.

Ireland needs well known acts to compete at Eurovision and all Wild Youth have got for it is shit thrown at them, and potentially harmed their long term future as a band.

It’s sad when the artists and their performance are overshadowed by this.

Didn’t I read somewhere they really wanted to go to Eurovision and it is for a (dead?) family member?

I actually liked the song from the beginning because it reminded me of U2, a band I love (ok, a weaker U2 song) but after all songs were released it automatically went down in my ranking because there were even better songs later than theirs.

Yes, Conor's mum died when he was a teenager and he has spoken about how much they loved watching Eurovision together. It does seem like Conor may have driven the band's decision to enter and I've wondered if other members felt less enthusiastic particularly as the song didn't get a great reaction.

The song is so unlike WY's usual style. It feels like the brief was 'let's write a song with an Irish feel to make it sound more authentic because other acts have done well in Eurovision by bringing their country's style' - and therefore they decided to mimic the U2 sound with We Are One.

I believe that it will NQ but I do think it has a small chance of Q if the performance is good on the night and it connects with the viewers. This sort of song isn't my cup of tea whatsoever as I find this genre bland but maybe there's an audience out there for it.

Oh, I didn't know that their music is usually different. Which songs are the best in your opinion?

Wild Youth have just appeared on The Late Late Show, an Irish chat show. Briefly discussed the trans controversy of last week, then performed We Are One. Conor looked sad and uncomfortable throughout the interview and performance. The other 3 guys seemed a bit defeated too.

Thank you. I remember that part. I was so touched because my mum, who introduced me to Eurovision and was as much of an avid fan as me, suddenly died two years ago around this time. Now I‘m dedicating every Eurovision I watch to her and I‘ve been making a list each year with songs she would probably like and bury it in our garden (a bit silly, I know, but that’s my way to think of her).

"We are one" might be different from their usual music but I don’t think they‘d do effortlessly better with that. I like their style but also reminds me a bit of Malta or other ESC pop songs in the past that didn’t do well. If it was up to me I’d let them qualify but it’s really a tough semi…

This might be the biggest grower of the year for me! The message and the stadium sing-a-long tune it haves are somehow things that drives me back to this song over and over again.

First listen: Fine, but meh 4/10
Now: WEEEE AREEEE OOOOONE!!! 8/10

Lead singer (Conor) clearly not shy about his body. The gold catsuit emphasises his, erm.... You know what.

On my top10 since the beginning.

I know that they are not going to qualify but i keep a very small amount of hope.

So, I hoped that somehow they could elevate their song with staging, because the song's lyrics really are an opportunity to do so. Namely because they showed to be competent performers on pre-parties (except for the drummer, he's just chilling there 😆).

But, this staging is a clichée. An opportunity missed really.

The worst is this jumpsuit though. It's ripped off from Robbie Williams's videos and stagings.

So all in all, the song is reminiscent of U2, pianist is reminiscent of Beach Boys, and the vocalist is Robbie's younger brother.

It's been a waste of what potentially could have been a decent band. They appear as somebody created them and made them this by borrowing from everywhere. No authenticity at all. Shame because as I said, these young people have potential.

Western society is fairly comfortable with people emphasizing their body parts perceivable in a sexual way. Why should we feel any different when those body parts aren't called "boo(b/t)ies"?

(Just an idea, not a personal attack on anyone... :) )
