It just feeds the right wing media which in turn feeds the clueless and ignorant in society that are scared of anything other than heterosexuals. It’s all a big distraction. Like before people would blame the gays in the 80s and 90s for their problems, then it turned to immigrants in the 00s and 10s and now it’s trans people that are the scape goat. History is repeating itself
This shouldn't be a right/left thing at all. I'm not going to get political but more trans people need to call out clear predators regardless of their gender/race/ethnicity. That's all I'm saying. Despite what some people say trans people are not under attack by everyone just because they disagree with one view point. Let people live how they want to when they are adults.

It's not as bad as I've thought it to be in the past few months, but I still feel like a headache is coming for me after listening to it. That combined with the song itself not being all that interesting unfortunately makes me put this in the "bad" category, but at least on the higher half of it. The basic structure, melody, beat, whatever, is still nice enough to not make me put this any lower.

Final score: :3: points

Wondering will the publicity about this 'Ian Banham' controversy give them a boost in the voting, as they haven't been one of the acts that people are talking about. JK Rowling tweeting 'against' them might actually make them gain support.

I bloody wish I could vote for Ireland now in the semi finals let me tell you, they’d get all 20.

I‘d say, chances are not zero. While it doesn’t appear as a sure qualifier (and I agree here) it doesn’t appear like a sure NQ to me too. This is something that could get a vote or two from the casual ESC audience, especially due to their resemblance to U2, musicwise. But then again, there is a strong field of participants in the semi, so a few votes won’t be enough.

So a chance of 1-2 %?? :p

Conor has turned his Twitter profile to private. There is a mountain of negative comments being left on the Wild Youth Twitter profile so I'm guessing Conor's profile was bombarded too.

It's not turning out to be the most pleasant experience for them in the run-up, is it?

Can we not vote on things outside of the relevance of the contest and just vote for the songs and their performances please, We Are One is bland and dated and we do not need to be rewarded for that

Ignoring recent events I have always felt there was a chance for Ireland to qualify this year. It was always going to be incredibly slim, but not zero. It all depends on how the folks at home respond to it and how well they are able to capture their attention. A great performance with decent staging will help a lot. And as generic as the song may be for some it is approachable, it is acceptable, and being as generic as it may make it more palatable to general audiences. However, being palatable doesn't mean people will vote for it. And the risk for them is that people will just think it is nice and enjoyable enough to listen to but won't like it enough to spend money to vote for them.

I strongly doubt that the intersection between this two fandoms is big enough to make a difference.

I agree. I do think it has a small hope to qualify and wonder if more members of the LGBT community might vote in support of it now.

We discussed a while back on the thread that they didn't seem to be enjoying the Eurovision experience, well they certainly must not be enjoying it now. Hopefully they enjoy the Liverpool part and don't pay too much attention to the negative comments.

I hope the experience of Wild Youth doesn't put other well known Irish acts off entering next year

Of course she had to weigh in on it....her opinion isn't necessary here and now partly because of this, it has resulted in poor Connor and the band getting hate tweets/hate in general directed at them. It sucks :(

Yeah he was bombarded with tweets, just plain nasty really. First Mae, and now Wild Youth. Disgusting really.

Honestly, they did the exact right thing dropping him away from their team, and taking a stand for what they believe in. Personally, I really hope, as the above poster says, that they will be warmly received in Liverpool and enjoy that part of it!

Could this actually come as a shock NQ perhaps now? For me I'm not sure I can see it Q, but yeah, it could shock NQ.

No one would be shocked if this song stays in the semi.

Yeah I don't feel it will have a major impact unless the News becomes more well know within the bubble and the fanbase at large. And given how many people have given up on it thus far I can't imagine many would be talking about it anyway. If they make it through I don't think it will be because of it. And if they don't I can see a lot of people rubbing their hands with glee and saying "Serves them right!" if they don't make it through.
