Did the Irish head of delegation really compare this to "Euphoria"?? How do you call this?? Loss of reality?? Megalomania?? Or a very strange mix of both??Sorry :ie: , but this is absolutely nothing!! xfacepalm

Here we have Lesley, a singer born in 1987 singing a song which would have been perfect for a singer in her late teens or early twenties in 2008, but now this sounds just sooo outdadet and unauthentic!! Even though even Katy Perry would have rejected this at the beginning of her career in my opinion.

The chorus sounds completely overproduced and the "na na na" is highly irritating. The rest of the song sounds like they´ve put songs of Pink and Kelly Clarkson in a blender, the result is a very generic and boring track. xbored

All in all this entry sounds completely fallen out of time for me. Since I´m not a fan her voice either I give this entry very generous :2:.

The nanana-part is the moment where I have to fight not to push the skip-button. The rest is... well a decent effort, nothing more.

Yeah ... that nanana is which I find annoying (thank you for pointing this one out) but there were people who loved Serhat and his nanana last year, so @RainyWoods should be less reluctant than he currently is! :D

I don't believe that I'm doing this, but there is a difference between those two nananana's . (Yes we ARE discussing senseless syllables here xrofl ): Serhat's version was just a humming for having fun with no deeper meaning, Lesley's "interpretation" is a copy of what people do when they want to say: "In your face, I told you so." It's just the last note of the sequence that's altered. Now I don't really know if this kind of nananana has this meaning only in german speaking countries, but I was immediately reminded of the last few seconds (3:25) of this german song (which I like a lot, cuz it's hilariously funny in terms of the lyrics btw.) were the singer is mocking his ex-girlfriend and ending with basically showing her the middle finger metaphorically by using this "nananana"

THE GOOD:
-It's for sure a head-bopper.
-The vocals fit with the instrumentals for the song.

THE BAD:
-The only thing is that the Katy Perry comparisons will be rampant among the Eurovision audience.

THE VERDICT:
Throughout listening to this song, I thought to myself: "Well, I hope she's ready for the Katy Perry comparisons." This is very much that type of song, and it's executed very well. So much so that I had to remind myself that this is a Eurovision entry. This is a situation where the staging will be more of a factor than with other entries. If it's too much like the first part of the official video, then I can see problems. If the staging is more like the latter part of the video, then maybe not so much. In the meantime, Ireland has a pretty good entry in their hands. They just have to be careful about the staging aspect and not make it too much like one of KP's concerts. 10 points

I don't mind it being kinda dated. I like a lot of Pink's songs, but if this was one of hers, I would skip it. 4pts

@Iker Sammy above basically described it perfectly. Also, even if I'm a fan of Serhat's Say Na Na Na, why has that got to make me be more open to a song of an entirely different style that also happens to have a "na na na" lyric? But yes, though. It does annoy me hearing the na na na's here because they come out juvenile like a brat at school who's just tripped you up in the corridor.

They aren't even trying, are they? Seriously, if i was an Irish artist or songwriter i'd be pissed at what they're doing. There's so much better stuff they could send, they must be aware that this stuff has no chance at getting a good result at all, so why are they even in the contest? If they don't want to win, at least send something funny instead o_O

So this is the second coming of Euphoria? Lmao. It's like they smashed together every pop artist's singles in the past twenty years and called it a day. I can hear Katy Perry, P!nk, Avril, Taylor Swift and many more. And hmm, I am here for it, I don't mind the ridiculousness and the dated sounding. It's not terrible  Except the parts where she sounds like Avril who I can't stand these days.

Ireland finally reached 2000-2010s, soon we will get a 2020 sounding guys lol.

:7: for now

It's okay, but it won't do anything at Eurovision because it's far too middle of the road and unoriginal. It's position is covered by superior songs on all fronts. Utterly hopeless.

Alright.. well... lets start with the positives; this is a bright and bouncy punk pop song that is really fun, energetic, makes a statement and is really pleasant to listen to and is fairly catchy and lingers in one's mind for quite a while after listening to it. I think that regardless of how it does during the Semi-Finals it will really have a great response from the live audience in a way that Ireland sadly hasn't gotten in recent years.

The problems however... Well... not to repeat what has already been said but... it is mighty dated. If I am being kind, its 8 or 9 years out of date. If I am being harsh, well, closer to 12 or 11.

It feels very much like a 'forced fun' kind of song, one that is trying to be as fun as one can fit in 3 minuets in the most artificial and bordering on cynical way possible. There is very little about it that feels sincere, it feels manufactured, like some kind of composite of every bright and breezy pseudo punk pop track that has come out over the past decade and a half and plugging in elements from countless successful female pop vocalists with all the attitude of a children's sitcom theme tune, I mean goodness, the theme tune to 'Comin' Atcha!' Feels like it has more of an attitude and musical relevance than this effort.

Whilst this is a side note and not reflective of the song itself I have to say I really do not like that video, it feels like LGBT+ pandering in a way that just feels cynical and exploitative to me and makes it feel like that they are going to try and replicate that in their live performance, almost as though they are pinning their hopes on the song doing well not of its own efforts but to try and replicate the successes of their performance in 2018 and its staging.

Will it qualify with that in mind? I don't know, its in a very, very hard semi-final amongst acts that are the favourites to win the whole thing. Possibly the fact it is more conventional than the other songs around it will make it easier to digest to the televote and its overall message will win points with the judges but, in the event it does make it through I can't see it doing well in the final.

Its a 4 from me, maybe it will go up with further listens and after we see the staging but at this point I wouldn't put money on this one.

I thought Ireland would come up with something good this year. Very disappointing. 2 Points.

Tumblr, mostly.
Wow is this like... the inaugurating American Eurovision entry or what?

I don't mind tho, it's miles better than whatever insipid crap Ireland normally submit us to. Their best entry since Molly Sterling :-)

Is this the point from when we can start to call the mid to late 00's decade pop sound, 'retro'?:unsure::unsure:

Ireland clearly is trying but this is very dated and it's not really soon enough for this sound to make a return.

Apart from this I LOVE IT. It's fun, catchy and all of that. Let's see how she performs.

This is one of my longest posts, but here we go: :ROFLMAO:

I've been thinking the whole day who do i like more - Georgia or Ireland. I can say now that Ireland is my new leader. As much as i idolize Georgia, i have to be fair to all countries.
I adore "Story Of My Life" for the same reasons others dislike it (or at least make fun of it). It sounds like a pop-rock track from many popular american singers 10+ years ago. I can see 14-15 year old me browsing on youtube and searching for some new music.

In many ways it's similar to Hanna Ferm's "Brave", but Lesley added some Rock in it.
Both are pure pop perfection with a retro taste!xlove
"La-di-da-di-da-di-da" vs "na na na na na na"

I didn't know who Lesley Roy was before, but a few weeks ago she was rumored to be selected and i fell in love with her songs "I'm Gone, I'm Going" and "Unbeautiful". Her voice is amazing, especially in "Unbeautiful". I didn't think much of it later because the rumors died out, but i'm glad they were true. She can sing live btw. xyes

Thank you Ireland for this throwback track from a 90s kid. xrosexyaaay
