It's 2024. You can't barge in with a 2004 song and ditto staging and expect to do anything. With the song being such a non-event the writing was on the wall though and ultimately she did give us a nice performance.

I was rather referring to the way she got nominated…

It was the only peformance last night I couldn't watch till the end - I started to browse social media/text about other performances with friends (I only did that between the other performances).

The song was dead upon arrival and we all know that - I love Hera, though - she sang it beautifully and looked amazing but neither the performance nor the song was memorable or great.

Tumblr, mostly.
My mother LOVED this one, and that says it all tbh. Hopelessly stuck in a time when boomers were the dominant generation.

it was charming enough As A Piece. You can't really go wrong with Hera Björk. It would be annoying if she took a spot in the final from someone more worthy but that didn't happen, so I'm perfectly okay with her :-)

Can anyone from Iceland explain why this won? Is it only because "she's a legend" over there, or was there anything else that made people actually think it was a good entry?
She was legend enough to qualify but I believe it was the juries who got her to the superfinal. Icelanders then had a choice to either select one of their own artists or send a foreign artist who had just made it clear he was going to use that representation for political reasons, and well iceland chose not to have a political act even though most voters knew the latter would get a much better result.

The juries knew the winner would face a lot of backlash and the other 3 acts in the final were on the young side so they pushed Hera through as she would be able to better cope with it, plus she had already confirmed she wanted participate at eurovision if she won.

My old fashioned in taste friend kept making comments during each performance, but Hera's song was the one she spoke no word and watched the whole performance without blinking her eyes. She was pretty mesmerised by Scared of Heights. She didn't make a positive comment at the end of the song but she had this big smile on her face. Then during the recaps she saw this song and went "That song is so dull"
This leaves me very confused.

My best guess is that maybe this person found Hera's dress mesmerising? Or maybe responding to Hera's confident presence?

An epic and classy performance. Hera is truly a remarkable artist but the song itself was beyond any salvation, sadly. It didn't stand a chance.

Certainly, I hope for a much better and stronger entry from :is: next year.

The perfect blend of racism against the favoured act and our national broadcaster fucking up the voting system (votes meant for Bashar were awarded to Hera) and RÚV basically going, "And what about it???"

It was a pitiful showing from us and viewership went down 40% between years.

The worst result in a SF since Iceland began competing in SFs. 15th with 3 points. Only one act in a final was even worse in points; 1989.
@kaarendew - full measures next year to avoid this shameful showing

Although I really liked the chorus. :(

Really looked like your BF's mum that got an old suit out and turned the show at a birthday party.
Hera is great and the song is pleasant but that looked a bit cringy...
