"Oculis Videre" for the win ! That song is so good and @Citelis is right, there should be at least one opera song every year. We had one in 2018 and 2019, it would be a good way to stand out easily. I'm a huge fan of "Oculis Videre" from Iva, it sounds like a mix between "La Forza" from Nechayeva and "Passio" from Battista Acquaviva, with a little touch of Enigma. It sounds so religious and I don't think we ever had this kind of song in the contest, so it'd be a good opportunity to pick her. It's a risky choice but with a good live, a good staging, they could really get a good result, I think.

Have you checked Viktorija from Lithuania, who qualified for the semis, in heat 2 this evening, also opera... ;)

Opera entries are always safe qualifiers and if the staging is good then they can reach top10. You won't see an opera entry winning but it can reach the top10.

No, but I will, thanks.

Absolutely. I don't know if we will ever see someday an opera song winning the contest (I don't think, tbh) but a top 10 isn't that hard to reach in my opinion. You just need strong vocals and an original (but not tacky or outdated) staging. I really loved "La Forza" et "Zéro Gravity", "Oculis Videre" is even more daring than the last. Will we see some religious opera song this year ? I hope so.

idk the icelandic NF has been utter crap for such a while. they have actually lucked out to only have ari as a horrible entry since 2016 because it's been a mess since then. maria olafs really destroyed the country. i can only hope hatari has given its life back.
i am very glad to inform that hatari, in fact, gave iceland its life back! it's their best NF in years!! yet another country murders estonia and leaves it in a ditch!

to go straight for the big dogs: daði is much better than iva and if you disagree then i will just have to stab you with a stiletto in the upcoming war of the worlds. oculus videre is of course a very good song and as a self-respecting eurovision gay my heart is always open to opera pop, but think about things is glorious and the sequel to is this love we all need. i want him to win, but wil calmly accept it if iva does win.

the other options are all fine except kid isak's andra chansen scraps and matti matt's dirge that feels like a vestige of sucky iceland. iam quite partial to dimma's hard rock number and ísold & helga ethereal country-ish duet, which i didn't even know was an option as a song genre.

I absolutely love both ''Zero gravity'' and ''La forza'' and since both reached easily top10 then i think that "Oculis Videre" can do it too.

Hint: Virginia is not my name
Iceland's got quite a few good options this year! I'll personally be bopping to Kid Isak all year even if he doesn't win the selection (I haven't heard all the songs, so I can't say whether he's my pick to win anyway)

I've said before that Iceland will have less chance of success this year.

I don't think these songs will perform as strong as HATARI, because their success last year depends on other factors. When 'Keppnin 2019 artists was announced, most eyes go straight to HATARI and their polarizing song. HATARI also had a clear concept, theme, and clever marketing. In short, their character and impression helped them to reach top 10, aside of their cool song, ofc.

'Keppnin 2020 pleases me with their good songs, but the participants lack character, judging from the photos alone. I have yet need to see if their live performance can exude some good impression.

@Realest Your scores are harsh this year. Have you adopted LastDreamer's ranking system? xrollinglol

No, this Years NF arent that good till now, except Albanias, where my Scores were pretty good. On the other Side, Brynjas Score of 5.7/10 indicates that she might be around my #20-22 at Eurovision if chosen, which isnt that bad btw.

Tumblr, mostly.
So far I've only heard two: "Thinking about things" and "Oculis Videre" and honestly, I don't feel like I need to listen to the rest - either of these two would be an excellent choice in their own right.

Oh, I was hoping for a different answer. Bad NF season can be frustrating.

I'm not much into opera so I didn't think I would like Oculus Videre but here I am, it's absolutely ethereal and would be a very interesting follow-up after Hatari.
(And the icelandic version is even bettrer)

About the other songs, I like Almyrkvi (DIMMA) a lot as well as Ekko (Nina), which is far from ambitious but effective nonetheless.
