Re: ICELAND 2019

Why everyone is so sure that if Hatari selected will do well?

Well for me it isn't that much about doing well...cause NONE of the songs will probably be a qualifier in Tel Aviv.
In the end it comes down to who can make a lasting impression and give us a show that is special and make a little extra buzz in May...and Hatari is sure one that can give us that.

Also, I am sure that if Hatari wins the NF, then they will get number 18 in the running order for Semi 1...cause they can really screw up some of the songs if anything happens to be after them.

I agree but after 4 years of NQ the main priority should be qualification and not lasting impression. However you are right that none of the rest songs is strong enough to qualify.

I think Hatari will be a TV-Qualifier, but probably outside the Jury Top10. In the End its 50/50, but until now Semi1 doesnt seem impressive and I dont expect many strong songs from the internal Selections, so there is a realistic chance.

The amount of media attention that Hatari will get if they are selected will be huge. I think there will be plenty of people tuning in solely to watch them. It's a huge risk to send them but it could really pay off.

They stand out so much that they could get top 10 in almost every televote in the semi, and that could be very important if comes down to San Marino's fake televote deciding whether they qualify or not.

They've already been on the Israeli news, some newscaster called them for a small interview about the entry and the newscasters seemed to enjoy the whole thing, Iceland! Don't fuck this up!

Iceland up to 13th with the bookmakers. Will be interesting to see what happens if Hatari qualifies.

I’m just wondering, are people in Iceland aware of how much the Eurovision fandom loves Hatari and how mad we will be if they choose anyone else?

I think they're becoming more and aware of it. Probably not enough but there's still time before the final. The media are doing an ok job so far of informing them.

Re: ICELAND 2019

My ultimate dark horse however is Hatari. At first it completely slipped by me as another novelty act. But out of curiosity I listened to it again on Youtube while finding a loose translation and I think it is a lot more serious and dark than I gave it credit for. I currently have it on repeat and it already rose to my 3rd position for this national final. And, just a hunch, I think it will be my favourite before the first semi-final starts . What is your opinion on the song?

Sorry for the suuuper late response, but I've genuinely been contemplating Hatari for a while now.  I also wrote it off in the beginning and I still find it a bit too abrasive, though I kind of love the softer techno parts, even if the verses are too grating (also can't say that I like the lyrics, even if I'm often here for a dark direct message, I'm still too big of an optimist I think lol), but I understand that it's not exactly here to be likable or a casual enjoyable listen. Looking at the big picture at this point, I don't doubt that it is the one to send for Iceland in this borefest of a selection, a divisive entry is always better than one that is nice but ultimately leaves people cold, and it does seem to have some sort of X Factor, even if I haven't completely fallen for it yet. But if they do send it, I'm not leaving out it further growing on me either.

I think you should all start preparing mentally for Friðrik Ómar to win this.
