It reminds me of 'Two Princes' by Spin Doctors, which happens to be an all-time favourite of mine, maybe that's why I like this one!

It's kids music and not appealing to the average/mainstream adult ear.

While I'm personally surprised anybody would find this appealing in any shape or form, the current poll results, betting odds etc should not come as a surprise.

I bet that you only say that it's kids music because 2 members are kindergardeners, which is sad.....

I'm all for native languages in ESC and if I were to be on charge of things on an absolute power basis I would have a mandatory rule approved forbidding English in this contest. Even the UK and Ireland would be set with a five year penalty forcing them to stick to Gaelic and Irish.

However, and such are life's contradictory ways, Iceland has incredibly grown on me since it adopted the bigger island tongue. From a can't stand it point of view I have moved to finding it very interesting and actually enjoying listening to it.
It will be a change of pace and rythm in this slower 2014 edition, it will be cheerful and catchy in a primitive but good way and I hope it will get enough votes to end up in the final!

I don't get why this is doing badly in the polls. It could be a huge hit in today's music charts... possibly the novelty value of the band's image puts people off? I'm not writing this one off, it stands a great chance of qualifying IMO

Yeah some people might considered them as a novelty act with their track suits and stuffs, but I think people should put more attention to the song instead of their appearance. Pollaponk aiming for non-mainstream viewers of Eurovision and I think that is a brilliant approach. But beside being Pollaponk, 2 of them are the members of the most critically acclaimed post-punk band in Iceland, surely they are experienced musicians and not just some dudes playing a novelty song.. And I agree that this could do very well in music charts

You certainly lost that bet, they ARE making children's music. Check wikipedia and other sources. The two teachers you are referring to created a band to make music that was also appealing to children. I'm not making stuff up.

That doesn't mean people aren't allowed to enjoy it, I just pointed out why this will not appeal to the average ear too much.

You said that the song is a kids song, that was what I was betting against, plus, don't trust wikipedia, I happen to live in Iceland and know that they intend to make songs that both children and adults can enjoy, and that, my friend, means that I won the bet.

I don't understand your point, I pointed out that their music is aimed to also appeal to children and that comes across. I don't know why you get so defensive about that. Nothing to be ashamed of, I merely pointed out that to the average ear it comes accross as childlike, if that's something you enjoy then that's great and nothing to get worked up over.

Look at your first comment, then you'll understand....

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that except maybe the fact that I don't like the song?!?!?

Anyways, it doesn't matter let's just move on.

I'm cool with moving on, but I made a bet about a thing you said on this thread, and you should know which.

Pollapönk aim to make music that appeals to both children and grown-ups alike. No band and no song can be universally liked, but in my opinion they generally have a good blend that can appeal to all age-groups, if not every person.

I'm increasingly loving this, no long ashamed to say I love it - bravo Iceland!

In the same semi as Armenia, Russia et al - they need to be challenged.

Come on Pollaponk! I am very proud of them. I never been in love with Icelandic entries before, but now I am totally in love with this song. Just hope next year Iceland will send Olafur Arnalds, Sin Fang, or maybe even more alternative with Krummi Bjorgvinsson or Samaris. But I don't think they will be interested doing this..

Well I don't like Iceland's entry for this year at all, it's just not my favoured style of singing/music. Why couldn't they have gone for a soothing ballad like they had last year, or something along the lines of "Je Ne Sais Quoi" sung by Hera Björk in 2010?

According to scientists Hekla is about to have a major eruption over the next few weeks.. Pollaponk need to get out of Iceland soon in case it causes problems with airtravel again :/
Simple solution, if Hekla in its current dormant state has an open crater with magma swirling around, fill the crater with extra strong concrete, and whether or not it currently has a crater cover it with a thick indestructible concrete shell.

That's what the Icelandic Government should have done when Eyjafjallajökull erupted in April 2010 - they should have sent a convoy of ready-mixed concrete tankers to it and filled its crater (fast) with extra strong concrete, and then encased its cone with an indestructible concrete shell. That would quickly have stopped it spuing ash into the atmosphere, and thus prevented all the air travel chaos all over Europe. Ditto Grímsvötn in May 2011.

Your lack of geographical wisdom is astonishing
