Same here, for now it's my solid #1.
Oh wait, #2, i'm keeping my #1 spot open for Serbia :D
Anyways, only Icelandic! Don't you dare to translate it to english and ruin that masterpiece.

The more I think, the more I want this entry to win in Baku!!!

I am wondering though: what would they do if they would actually win Eurovision, can Iceland actually host? I mean, not just in terms of a venue, but do they have enough hotel rooms to accommodate all the fans + crew?

Needs to stay in icelandic, english can work for certain acts but often it just sounds ridiculous - either terrible lyrics, pronunciation or both.

The icelandic helps it achieve such an epic atmosphere.

Very nice song, violin is lovely.

Greta:

Tried out the English lyrics in the studio tiday. Still nothing decided but it sounds great!! Same story, same atmosphere!

I asked her to release the english version and let the fans vote for the best. Hope she does that!

It's obvious she decided to go with English, and effin no way it'll keep the same atmosphere, since Icelandic has a major part in this. Maybe to her as a native Icelandic it's nothing special, but to the rest of us it is.

Just senseless to do this type of entry in English.

And what about Jonsi and other writers/composers? They're just puppets in this game of desperation, selling-out and song slaughter?

So disappointed :(

And the sky is falling onto the poor children of the world who wanted to share the laughter of hope in the jungle of humanity that is glowing in the dark of our broken hearts. We shall bury our deepest hopes and fears that ignites our once bolossoming courage and should prepare for the barriers of hope to be torn down and Armageddon shall overcome our souls in the midst of this endless war of chocolate milk.

While I don't agree with changing the lyrics, I think that is a little bit too dramatic :D

They basically kill one of the best entries this year! I even regret I rooted for them in the first place, that damn boy band should have won, atleast English makes sense in such a song, while in this one it's just pointless and there's no way in h it will "keep the same atmosphere".

Let's see if she's atleast willing to make the public decide which one she'd go with.

While I agree A-Lister can sometimes be a drama queen, in this case he is absolutely right to flip out. So many great songs get butchered between winning the NF and performing at ESC, and this seems to be another victim. We'll see of course, but I have no expectations. Greta seems to be a bit up her own arse tbh.

I'm 200% in pro-Icelandic camp. Besides they are 9th with the odds atm. And I agree with alca and I'm HEAVILY sceptical about the whole English thing, until I'm proved the opposite. So:

Greta - try me! Try us! Prove us wrong! But if u fail with English - don't say we didn't warn you!

Peace!

This! And unfortunately we can't turn back time! As I said (maybe not in this forum), the worst case scenario for me would be a multilingual version. I don't accept 100% in english! Period.

Hmmm, you talk like they have already made up their mind:? Let's not dramatise this beforehand..... I trust Greta to make the right choice for her song. If the end result will be english, you should listen to it with an open mind. It may be your belief that the song will be better in Icelandic, but she may proof you wrong, or maybe right, by deciding to have it in Icelandic.:)

I'm actually more worried that they are re-recording it...so much messing around.

It's quite telling by her posts she did indeed made up her mind, and no I will not even listen to it (well I will but I have no interest). It was one of my favorites this year (if not my #1) and part of what makes the atmosphere is the language.

The only one with closed minds are the ones wanting this to be in English. But it's her prerogative, I was a supporter of the original song, I'm not forced to like the "new" one (and changing language also change the essence of the song, that's the power of languages).

True, A-lister. True. HOWEVER - there are still 17 days left to decide.

I already wrote to Greta that Bilan and Volkova are making a duet in Russia and that they will be Greta and Jonsi's biggest threat and competition and if the song is indeed in English then they might flop completely. So Icelandic is THE ONLY WAY to go atm.

True...

Well lobby as hard as you can, but it seems she's not really interested about the public's opinion though.

My major concern is not English, my major concern is English in this type of song, then I think Iceland should have chosen a different entry more fit for English, this really is not a song that should be translated to English, it's just senseless.

I think she does. She even pointed it out in an interview with escNorge (the most Iceland-friendly website) that "many people are saying they love it as it is". I think she must be in a BIG dilemma atm and she wants to try out different options. I wrote to ESCToday about it as well.

When I make up the PERFECT argument, also with statistics and videos as the evidence I may write her a PM on Facebook. We'll see how she takes it. It's breaking my heart to see TWO songs being ruined with English, first Iceland and now my country, Slovenia. :-S And with a good argument I think we can do everything.

Oh okay, well the only reactions I got from her are the quotes posted in here, so based on those she seems not to care, but since I don't follow her I can't really say (and obviously I'm not in her brain).

I think the main argument is that it's an ethnic song and Icelandic is part of that essence, there are entries in the past with similar essence which would just sound odd and out of place in English. Also it's about being true to your supporters in general.

Wiv; Well, let's talk about something much more interesting; "Mundu eftir mér"! It's not a secret to anyone that this is my personal favorite so far in this year's line-up, and I'm really curious about what's going to happen to it. Will it stay in Icelandic for Eurovision Song Contest, or will you translate it to English?

Greta; I'm not sure yet, actually. It works so well in Icelandic, and a lot of people have contacted me to say they love it the way it is. And Icelandic is my mothertongue so I am partial to it. But at the same time I really want as many people as possible to understand the lyrics of my song, and that means English. I am working on the English lyrics, but I will never perform an English version of the song if I'm not convinced that it is as good as, or better than, the Icelandic. But for now I am looking at both options. We have even thought about doing it bilingually. But no decision has been made yet.

Take it easy, OK? I hope she releases both versions and asks us on what we think.

Otherwise - It's good I have Tooji as my "reserve" no.1 lol
