Re: ICELAND 2012

But what I was saying, and I guess I didn't do a good job at saying it, was that perhaps famous people have the best song. Like you said, it's a matter of taste, so what you or I think should win is probably not in line with what Icelandic people prefer.

I can't speak for Iceland, but I think Icleand doesn't differ that much from the rest of Europe, and in many cases the most famous ones doesn't have the best entries. I can speak for Sweden where famous acts always qualifies or even wins, but seldom they have the best entries in the first place.

Also to have a demographic group supporting you that vote more than others is also important. I don't know about Iceland, but here under 18 tends to vote the most, and mostly girls, and they often only care about "who is the cutest guy" or whatever

My prediction is Magni wins and the boyband comes second, however I crosses all my fingers for Greta & Jonsi !

Re: ICELAND 2012

May I add Icleandic sounds really cool :), I really hope we will get it in Baku aswell whoever wins, although out of the pre-favorites I honestly think only Greta & Jonsi will keep it Icelandic if they are picked.

Sounds so interesting, I understand some words and sentences, but it's still so different. Very unique language.

Re: ICELAND 2012

I decided to add all the 7 songs that will be in the final on February 11. It will be an exciting evening, since there is no clear winner here. The final will be held in Harpa, our new musichall. I just got tickets, but it sold out in a matter of minutes. Harpa is a great building with superb acoustics so this will definitely be a treat.:D

http://en.harpa.is/for-visitors/

"Mundu eftir mér" with Gréta Salome and Jónsi

"Stattu upp" with Blár Ópal

"Hey" with Simbi & Hrútspungarnir

"Hjartað brennur" with Regína Ósk Óskarsdóttir

"Aldrei sleppir mér" with Gréta Salóme, Heiða and Gudrun Árný

"Hugarró" with Magni Ásgeirsson

Stund med thér" with Rósa Birgitta Ísfeld (The wildcard)

Please, please Iceland, send Greta & Jonsi to ESC! Mundu eftir mer is just so beautiful, haunting, could listen to it all day fantastic! And I agree, keep it in Icelandic, I think it would loose a lot of its character in a translation. Could be Iceland's Molitva-like victory.

Maybe if we all keep doing that, it will happen! Or is that just naive thinking? -O- Ah well, back to hoping for our preferred outcome then... xcrossed

Re: ICELAND 2012

Changes in the line up! (I suppose these news make happy A-lister)

Greta Salóme is one of the contestants of the Icelandic National final; Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2012 with two songs. She has decided to focus on the entry Mundu eftir mér that she sings with Jónsi. Greta Salóme will not perform in the National final together with Heiða Ólafs and Guðrún Árný for her second entry Aldrei sleppir mér but she still remains the composer of the song.

YAY! Good & smart decision Greta! xcheer

Hopefully this means that she won't divide her chances and that "Mundu eftir mér" got higher chance to win now! :)

However still afraid Magni will win, but I'm a little more optimistic about the outcome now atleast.

Haha good luck with that ;)

He is not bad, but you just CAN'T let a song like "Mundu eftir mér" down... we want to see that one in Baku! Kapish!? ;)

Re: ICELAND 2012

"Stattu upp" would have very good chances to do really well in the semi (as far as I know all the other songs selected so far are slow??, except for Cyprus). This is a club song that could really do well and be popular after the contest. And they can leave it in Icelandic, because it flows so well. :) I also like the song by Greta and Jonsi, but think about it. So many ballads are already going to be present in the contest. I haven't heard Magni's song, but if it is anything or similar to your 2007 entry - DON'T SELECT IT!!!

Oh I totally forgot about the boyband, I hope they won't go. Greta/Jonsi is not "just another ballad", and boybands are usually unlucky in ESC anyways.

Oh yeah, 2007 Icelandic entry was a disaster (that year Jonsi should have won aswell, hopefully he's more lucky this time around).

Boybands may be unlucky, but this is good. This catches your attention instantaneously. It has a very nice beat, interesting beginning and ending (beginning and ending remind me a lot of those "Sing-off" competitions, which is also pretty nice and it gives the song a more diverse look). :)

Well taste differs, If I didn't have this big favorite of mine already in this selection, I would have probably had an more open mind to the rest, now I just can't :)

Agreed completely with this. Mundu Eftir Mer blew me away and now the only thing I care about in the NF is that it wins. Anything else would be a major disappointment.
