Well we just have other opinion for what ballad is that's all...

But because I try to understand how you think...what was :az: 2013 for you as kind of song?(please don't say anything bad)

That was more of a ballad but still kinda pop... let's say more of a Disney ballad than a real one

Pop doesn't mean upbeat. I would say Gravity was a pop song. Hold me (Azerbaijan) was a ballad.

Well the all the people in Europe knows at least some basic words in English cause it's the international language...

Unfortunately, no. We get Eastern European truck drivers delivering stuff at work, and some of them doesn't understand even the most basic English. I doubt they're gonna watch ESC tho...

Well I don't know what happens in real life but when they listen the song on the internet they can make a translation...

But we know that some people in Eastern Europe don't speak English....but this isn't bad....they are still people, aren't they? ;)

Yeah, but that doesn't mean people are taking the message of the song. Me, for example.... I can speak English, but if I'm not in the foreign language mode while I'm listening to a song, I just hear bla bla bla bla bla. And obviously I'm not in that mode, but in the "enjoy the music" one.

We all know every song months before the contest, but imagine all the people who just watch once. I'm sure many people don't even get a general message of the songs.

Yes I neither and I believe that it happens in the most people...anyway I just wanted to say something else and I wrote something else that's all....

Oh, I can tell that 25% of French people doesn't know why Running means and that 73% will stop tryning to understand after "Running Running" maybe "It'll be all right" for the most clever. It remains 2% of the population composed with Eurofans and English speaking people ! xrofl3

That's why singing in English is just an issue because of usual sounds, not because of the meaning of the whole thing...

I'm not sure how other countries do it but our Eurovision commentator always explains the gist of the songs for the viewers during the postcards.

Not always. Here, come commentators did it, but usually they just present the singer and maybe translate the title of the song + some information about the country's history in ESC.

Well yeah in case of some songs (like Cake to Bake this year) there isn't much to explain I guess.

Last year they said and some things for the singers...

Yes, sometimes they do. But they rarely translate the lyrics...sometimes the chorus..if that.
In any case, I don't think lyrics matter to televoters or to juries...or many songs in the past wouldn't have done as well as they did :D

Lyrics don't matter much and I agree most times we don't even acknowledge them. They're not about anything that's imediately recognisable or they're just too banal. Commentators don't usually bother to say anything because there's nothing to tell. This case is special though.

Is anyone else picking up some serious Farid Mammadov vibes from András Kalláy-Saunders' voice? Especially at the start.

No, the only similarity I find is that they're both young and singing ballads. I think Andras has a much better voice.
