It is rumored that the National Final will be on 4th of March.
There is still a small possibility of withdrawing.

I have just realized that Anna Vissi is in Panik Records !
Maybe if we could cancel the national final and pick this new song

Oh YES, PLEASE! xbow Or any other song performed by Anna, just to see her in the ESC one more time.
But I guess this is just a wonderful dream :( She will never take part again... :(
I have also just realized that if she took part in the NF, she would meet Despina Vandi (host of the show) face to face... and the next day all Greek showbiz magazines and websites would scream "Vissi and Vandi on the same stage!" (But I'm sure this is not what Anna wants.)

Funny enough, these stories with Vandi and Vissi are in the news once again. Vissi was in negotiations to be a judge on The Voice of Greece which started last month, but negotiations broke down. Meanwhile Vandi is a judge on the show. Antonis Remos (the one in the duet) is also a judge on the show, and he sings with Vissi this winter. It is reported that all the judges from the Voice were invited to go see his show, and now Greek media are reporting that Vissi and Vandi are bound to meet.

Anyway, lets get back to ESC reality.

I know all that, and I was even wondering how on earth could they have taken Vandi when the show is supposed to be about VOICES, and VOCAL/ SINGING ABILITIES. I have no idea what the contestants can learn from her about singing. Anna would be a perfect coach, beacause she can sing and I'm sure she would also be able to teach other people.

Really? Countries have done worse rule-breaking in ESC than that and without any reactions from EBU what-so-ever xshrug

I think so. Lebanon was banned for 5 years for withdrawing after the limit back in 2005. But then again, given the Greek situation EBu would be more soft.

Withdrawal is unlikely. They would still have to pay the participation fee and a withdrawal fee on top of that.

:lb: was banned for leaving the contest after the meeting of HoD in March, no ?

Yes it was in March that they finally withdrew.

They actually withdrew in December claiming financial troubles (denying it was political conflict with Israel) but they negotiated with the EBU and were 5 days after the deadline put on the roster of participating countries.

Then in March the official Lebanese ESC website didn't list Israel as a participant. The EBU asked the broadcaster if Lebanon would broadcast the whole contest, including Israel, but they said they couldn't guarantee it. Lebanon has a policy that prohibited the broadcast of Israeli content on television. So on March 18th they withdrew again and as a result of being three months after the deadline were given a 3 year ban.

:lb: was banned because they broke one of the most crucial rules because they didn't want to broadcast Israel... so yes they withdrew late instead, but would have gotten banned regardless because of their intentions.

But EBU said Greece had a different schedule, since they have a special situation with their broadcaster. Well, special.... they didn't have any
Not sure about how different though.

I don't see why they would withdraw now, unless the new broadcaster is not ready. Greek officials already said it makes sense to participate, since they will have to pay a fee for broadcast even if they don't send anyone. They are planning to outsource it like they did last year anyway, so MAD (most likely) will find sponsors like they did last year.

The only thing I have heard, is that the some on the Greek Eurovision team are afraid a possible win may upset some people in Greece.... (dumb people who can't see the bigger picture that hosting brings in money to the hosting city) Anyway, Greece's goal this year is to participate the best they can under the circumstances, and provide a show for the Greek people.... Whatever happens, happens.

According to Oikotimes, ESC announcements will take place as soon as NERIT officially signs its agreement with MAD TV to outsource the selection again. (there is still a slight chance that may fall through...) It will be Panik/Platinum artists again. We have known of 2 names so far: Kostas Martakis and Kristallia. Now a 3rd name has leaked: Josephine. She is a new artist debuting on Panik Records......she had a duet with rapper OGE.

The 4th name on the list is rumored to be an up and coming boy band..... Also the NF is provisionally scheduled for March 4th. There are efforts to move it to a bigger venue than last year to make it into a bigger show.

Didn't the Athens contest bring in a profit?
