Re: GERMANY 2019

I just heard a 30-second snippet of Lilly Among Clouds' song, and I hope there's more to the song than that snippet offers, because it kind of sounded like a reject of this very national final.

Hugely disapponted by Linus‘ song. The one that stood out for me was Demons, but I think to give the whole selection at least a second listen, before I make up my mind.

Oh wow, I actually like this selection, that's...new for Germany lol. I think lilly among clouds has my favorite of the bunch. But one thing is clear: Gregor HAS to lose!!! All the rest are at least decent

Re: GERMANY 2019

I don't think much here is a match for my taste sadly, but it's not a bad NF at all, and there's some songs that will probably work quite well at Eurovision.

Makeda - The Day I Loved You Most I like this song the most. For sure it's one of the most basic and clear-cut things here, but it works because of how emotive Makeda is. It's got some lovely nuances and the chorus really soars. It made me get a lil' emotional as I was listening to it for the second time, which is weird because I honestly didn't think I was that impressed by it, but something really connects. I'm unsure it would do well at Eurovision, but you'd make me happy if you sent Makeda. I think I'd fall in love with this, if I'm not already now. It's a stunner for sure and warms my heart.

S!sters - Sister The music box from Ivy Quainoo's song last year is back. I don't know what I think of this. Some parts are charming. My feelings are kind of mixed overall.

BB Thomaz - Demons This confuses me. I really was digging the verses but the Queen-esque chorus is so mismatched. One of the weirdest transitions I've heard in a while, and I'm unsure it's a positive kind of weird. It might take a few listens for it to work, and you don't have that luxury at Eurovision. It's unique for sure, but very messy in a it's giving me whiplash kind of way.

Aly Ryan - Wear Your Love This is ok, but it's hard for me to go beyond an "ok". I feel like it needs to be bigger somehow. Nice production but overall it comes off as a bit middle. I've seen pictures of the performance for this and it looks like it's going to be very striking, so maybe a cool visual will lift this song to being something more?

Lilly Among Clouds - Surprise As soon as the vocals started I kind of wanted to turn this one off. It's not my style at all. Composition is decent though, and interesting. I feel like I want to throw her some Strepsils during the "surprised, surprised" hook. I think the whole thing is a bit too forced and arty farty for me, but it's probably the song that will work best at Eurovision.

Linus Bruhn - Our City Someone make it stop.

Gregor Hägele - Let Me Go This one is even worse than Our City somehow. I look forward to it winning tonight.

I think Surprise is the safest bet for a good result at Eurovision. Wear Your Love could potentially do well if the performance is slick and memorable. With that one the whole package really will be important because I don't think the song itself is probably strong enough. With the other songs it's hard to say what would happen. Send Makeda I guess if you love me, which I hope you do. I need another song I actually want to listen to for 2019.

Re: GERMANY 2019

Can somebody confirm that the remix version of BB Thomaz's song on Spotify is the same as the NF-version?

Lilly among the clouds flies above the rest. Love love love it 10/10

Aly Ryan has a very cool song too with a pleasant groove that makes me wanna shake my ass like no one‘s watching. 9.5/10

I want to give the award for best lyrics to Our City. I find the arrangement a bit annoying though. The electronic screech needs to go. 7/10

Demons & Sister are also great songs. It makes me worried someone shitty might win like in Romania with too many strong contenders. 8/10

Which brings me to my bottom two:

I needed to turn off Makeda halfway as the notes got the higher.
Gregor Hägele sounds like ZDF fernsehgarten. Very bland. This „Ikenzie“ theme is too worn out for me.

Sister is the best song by far

Really? I like it but it's so middle of the road. And middle of the road for Germany in Eurovision is a bottom 5 result

I don't like Aly's overhyped song and Lilli has a great , sophisticated song but "Sister" is a ESC winner material. The live show can change everything.

Sisters 10/10
BB Thomaz 9,5/10
Lilly 8/10
.....the rest is filler material

Interesting how nearly all of the songs part fans around the world. A lot of people love Aly, some don't like it at all. Some find Lilly very special, others hate it. Great, how divisive the entries are - if that's down to the system?

Re: GERMANY 2019

Sooooo ... Germany. Congrats on a overall very good NF for once! Those song all are very competitive and diverse, this is going to be an exciting night. But, I have made up my mind.

My Top 7:

1. Aly Ryan: I just have to put her first. The modern sound, the gorgeous girl and the sex appeal it somehow evokes in me (less than MARUV but yet its there) make this song stand out. The visuals seem to be on point and even without this, this song would be my number 1. We never sent a song this modern to ESC, so this is it Germany. Dont mess it up, but I know you, you will. xlovexlovexlove

2. Makeda: A classic ballad that touches me. I like the piano, I like Makeda's voice. I just think its utterly beautiful. If we send a ballad, then please this, because its easier to grab than the one that follow.

3. BB Thomaz: It grew on me. The Queen influence cannot be unheard, but its different which I like and its uniqueness could shine at Eurovision. BB Thomaz is a great singer so I give her that. I just think its harder for people to connect to this, she shouldve been given an easier song on the ears.

4. Linus Bruhn: Argh, well, I like the sound yet I find it too tacky and annoying. Its hard. I get used to the thought of this winning. And it frightens me. Its modern and cute, but its not my cup of tea and I wouldn't listen to this actually. But yet, it would stand out in the sea of songs we have so far.

5. Lilly among clouds: This one could also be my number 2, but as much as I love it with some listenings I also find myself hating it. Her voice is great but this song needs soooo long to build up. Its atmospheric, but I cannot connect to it, the build of this song is so different, I dont know about it. Wished she went with something faster and more modern like her previous songs. I could see this end up winning. It all depends on the live performance.

6. S!sters: I expected much worse. Its a cute song, but seems like a filler to me. Both girls have fantastic voices, but I wished the song was a tad stronger having the topic it has. Plus I hardly believe in put together duets like this, it often sounds like they dont connect, but we'll see.

7. Gregor Hägele: He doesn't deserve this last place, because the song is good. His voice is good. But all in all, I remember him the least. Its a song I wouldn't listen to, but I could see Germany go for this. The audience always goes for "oh, cute, unexpected vocal" type of thing. We'll see.

Its a great line-up. And I expect everything can happen this evening. I could see EVERYONE be the last place and EVERYONE be the first, its weird. I believe its going to be a tough and close voting.

Re: GERMANY 2019

Makeda: I think this sounds similar to something. I enjoy her voice and it's a classy ballad. It's definitely touching and a great listen. However, this also sounds like a DSDS winning song :D Not sure that this would do well at the ESC but it's decent.

BB Thomaz: There's too much going on for my taste and I don't really like the R'n'B -gospel sound at the end. I feel slightly annoyed by the song although it gets better with every listen.

Linus Bruhn: That electro beat is super annoying. This is a bit overdone IMO. I don't like the lyrics and it sounds so childish overall. It's not terrible but I think I would prefer other choices. At least it's uptempo.

Gregor Hägele: This is giving me Sam Smith vibes. It's a very lovely ballad and if he can sing live like this it might be stunning. Unsure if this would be the right pick right after Michael Schulte. I can totally see the German audience eating this up though.

Lilly Among Clouds: Still undecided on this one :D My first impression was that I don't like it enough. After several listens it gets better, I think it takes some time to really figure this song out so maybe not ideal? Must also admit that I'm not a big fan of her voice. And honestly, the whole dark arrangement is slightly silly with the lyrical background of the song. I think this could do well but not completely on board. :D

S!sters: My first thought was that this sounds a bit like a christmas carol. :D This is a bit better expected but I just don't like how this is so calculated. Female duets always sound quite cool though.

Aly Ryan: I'm going up and down on this one :D That snippet sounded cool but the whole song is slightly underwhelming. Live performance could lift it up though. That beat at the beginning is awesome. I still love this modern approach, it sounds international and is very catchy from the beginning. "Dress me dress me up, all I wanna do is wear your love" could become an iconic line. :D

Re: GERMANY 2019

Listen to Lilly's permanently … absolutely wonderful, but I don't think this will make it … if it does,, my ESC 2019 is definitely saved! But love Aly also, it's fresh and modern, but I I am not sure if this would be top 10 material … no matter what comes out tonight, I can live with many songs of this section, along with BB Thomaz (great, great song) and Sisters. Gregor and Makeda are okay, but are nothing outstanding. Linus isn't really my case, but not so much because of the music (is okay), but because of the annoying vocals. Guess he will make it tonight.

I really wonder whom the judges will vote for? It can go either way: A ballad because strong vocal or an uptempo song, because we simply need it.

That's the question I was asking to myself also … even televoting is hard to predict … Aly? Linus? Or even Gregor or Makeda?
