German band Unheilig have asked their fans on their Facebook page and started a poll whether they would like to see them participate in Unser Song für Dänemark. Gosh, they are currently the most successful band in German-speaking countries, why in hell would they want to run the risk of destroying their musical career? xfacepalm

I was a bit taken back by the deep nature of his voice at first but once I got past that I really liked what I heard :). We rarely hear rock songs at ESC and I think there is a huge base at there waiting to vote for one. Lordi and Manga (more pop then rock I know) prove that the ESC audience will vote for one if its good. Germany could be the sole benefactor of the rock vote! xcheer With a good song I can see them doing really well.

Would losing really destroy a career?

Even the participation itself might harm the reputation to some extent. At least if one is as successful as Unheilig currently is. This being said, I like many of their songs, they have already promised not to sing in English and since there will be 100% televoting they would have the ticket to Copenhagen in the bag anyway. So I cannot say I'd be upset if they tried. It doesn't feel smart from their perspective at all though.

Just scrap the upcoming mediocre selection of songs and send the one true German schlager super-star diva Helene Fischer! I demand internal selection! xyesxhmmm It's time for a true German song for Germany! These imports from the UK and US are starting getting boring *yawn*

^ Kristina Bach's songs leave me rather cold. It's not bad though.

I do agree that Fischer got better material previously, but she still cr*ps over most of the imported stuff we get to hear in the German ESC selections, and she as an artist is almost super-fit for the ESC concept.

Apparently her new album broke some record in Germany, receiving Gold status after just 3 days and has already sold 500.000+ since the October release! Actually, I think in terms of commercial success, Helene Fischer is probably THE most successful current German act of them all! German oikophobic "youth-Pop-oriented" radio and TV can try all they want to prevent this success, but Helene and the likes have the last laugh selling out Arena tours and albums like no one else! Suck on that schlager haters!

I think, it would be a good choice, if Helene Fischer would be selected. But I don´t see her singing at ESC. Some of her songs are really interesting and good.

Thomas Schreiber hath declared this not possible already, but only for 2014 due to her busy schedule.

Personal taste aside though, it'd be highly interesting to find out who'd win in a duel Helene Fischer vs. Unheilig.

Same discussion every year

Helene Fischer is THE name for ESC, I genuinely cannot see any name in German music more fit for this concept than she is!... It's about time that Germany send a true German entry and not these nobodies fighting with imported demos by unknown US/UK songwriters... the latter concept is starting getting tired already. We get it, Germany are challenging Azerbaijan on who can import most entries and be the least genuine, but maybe it's time for something else for a change? Sure, it's about taste in the end of the day, but it's always sad when countries rely on imports, especially big countries like Germany.

But seeing how the German broadcaster treated anything local up till now, I don't have any hopes to get a German product any day soon.

Maybe for 2015 we could have an internal selection of Helene, although I would prefer it for 2014 already xcheer

^ If anything I'd rather have Jean Frankfurter write a song for another fresh, less known talent. Where is the point in running the risk to use her fame as cannon fodder? Sorry to say, but sending Helene to the Grand Prix contest would be like casting pearls before swine.

I would want her internally selected though

I have no idea about songwriters, but Helene as an act has it all: The charisma, looks, star-quality, vocals, stage presence and experience... why send an unexperienced so-so act when you can send the best Germany has to offer ? xcheer

I liked A-lister's post above, only because he is the only one who doesn't blame only Azerbaijan for importing, but he is fair if other countries do that, and don't mind if that is Germany, UK, or whatever! ;)

Thank you mate :)

I know I've been hard on Azerbaijan (probably because they've been more obvious about this), but of course I think it's an issue in general. I don't think any country should "get away" with it, especially not if they've made a system of it like Azerbaijan and Germany did. I think the whole idea and concept of ESC gets lost if countries aren't sending home-grown products, then entries are just representing them "on paper" but not actual.

Another fear of mine I have already expressed several times is that NDR would most probably insist on a pseudo 'competitive' entry different from her typical stuff. Which would be either a neutral ballad (if lucky) or some Europop sillyness in the style of Kate Ryan, C. Perrelli etc. No, I definitely would not be happy the day I hear she was selected.
