Personally I feel like the lyrics were kind of "uncanny valley"-ish. In the sense that people probably felt like they should understand it but didn't. I could see that being awkward for people.

I think with it being a ballad as well people are more likely to expect being able to interpret the song. (especially if it's in a language they understand) If Echo had been a bop I don't anyone would have cared about the nonsense lyrics.

That said, I did have it in 10th for me personally as I thought the overall performance was enough to qualify.

Sigh, same as Latvia, what is Georgia going to do now? I was confident this is Georgia's best chances in years, especially in such a weak semi. I feel sad for Iru. When Estonia and Poland got announced, I know Georgia is pretty much chanceless.

I still don’t understand. All the fuss about the lyrics… I think it didn’t matter, you didn’t need to understand what she was singing.
The staging was good, the song was epic, it was the perfect ESC formula with the wind machine and her looking stunning… but I guess it might have been a bit to extraordinary with those chimga… sounds.

Taking more time to write the song like someone suggested is definitely a start. Since its release I felt that Echo was more style over substance and something was missing. Yesterday I realized how reductive it actually is (that counts for a lot of songs this yeah tbh).
When it comes to style and atmosphere, Georgia has been top-notch since their beginning though and I feel their absence would be much felt even depsite them missing out on GF so often lately.
I don't know who's behind their success on JESC and I know its a complete opposite of style but maybe they get inspired by that a bit for their adult selection? It feels like they're just investing on finding a good voice (where they always succeed tbh) but they lose the focus on that its actually a song contest where all their latest offers left something to be desired.

Still I feel bad for Iru. So many young performers with a broken heart this year. Hopefully they'll release that the days of teenagers and young adults winning are long gone and the competition became more and more drifted towards experienced performers.

I agree about the style over substance comment. Last night I felt that I love her as a performer, she’s intriguing, and she should have a song that has more depth and is a bit earthier idk. Echo feels like an AI tried to produce a potential winner

Staging was the least Problem.
I think the 2nd Verse with all these strange Noises was the ultimate Turn-Off for Televoters.

You are a proven false oracle. Why should I trust you now?

I can not believe that qualify Australia and not Georgia
Of all the qualifiers, Australia is in my opinion one of the strongest in this NF. The live performance was fantastic and energetic. My question mark is Cyprus: totally forgettable (bland) song, I don't get how people remembered the song enough to pick their phone.

The percussion made this stand out so much. And the hook was full of passion, then they delayed it nicely before the end. Better hook than Albania or Belgium, more emotion as well.

I agree about the style over substance comment.

Do you agree that Sweden is often style over substance? Even with their limited budget I thought Georgia staged this well.

I wanted Georgia to qualify as they sent one of their few decent entries in years, but after the performance I wasn't surprised that it failed. It wasn't just very well done and the song is also quite exhausting (and not in a good way). I dunno, obviously deserved to qualify more than some that did so yeah it's sad but not a shocker either.

The beginning of Echo is also a bit weird, there is no real progression of the song... Something didn't work, despite a catchy chorus

I enjoyed Echo as a studio track. It's a big, full of energy, interesting package of sounds. Yeah, sounds. As sections they worked great, but as a full song it's more that of gun-glued arts & crafts rather than of a delicious cream soup. The verses transitioned so weirdly and so jarringly into the choruses, it's an acquired taste. Not everyone can handle those. Lyrically it's half-baked too, because I know they could do much more fully-realized songs in JESC.

Echo didn't translate well live. I feel the way Iru sings it feels shrill/thin compared to the studio version. A more prominent problem is her gestures, I feel it's too elegant, too static, and too smiley for such a powerful song like that. She would need a "creepier" choreography and stronger facial gestures. And the potential to walk to the front and let the dress flow from island to the main stage???? Like, come on!?!?

The number of people who watched that who cared about listening to (or indeed making out) the lyrics will have been a very very small percentage of the audience. The reason a song like Belgium got through was because of the hook. And Finland isn't a favourite because of the lyrics.

One thing I noticed was the recap wasn't even of the main hook, it displayed her strong vocals in another section instead.

The song is a hot mess and the singer dressed up ike a homeless person in the streets.

Oh I like how they all come out of their holes now beforw the final and shading the countries.
Memo to you, krivac - Georgia already didn’t qualify, don’t waste your energy on shading countries that are already out, lol

So sad she didn't make it :( My only "miss" last night, I was certain she will get in instead of :al: . Unfortunately, it seems like the entry was too distinct for an average viewer.

But she did a great job nonetheless, and for me personally, this will remain one of the strongest :ge: entries so far.
