I definitely agree that the languages have similar sounds, despite a lack of common vocabulary. I speak French, and listening to the song for the first time was bizarre because it felt like I was having a stroke  It sounded so familiar yet my brain couldn't make out any actual words.

It happened to me when Alvan started singing. Like others said, it's maybe because he has more of an accent than the girls, but I couldn't indeed make up my mind on which language it was at first. The rest of the song is very different from French though.

There's actually a similar phenomenon between Portuguese and Russian - they're entirely different languages from entirely different families, but a lot of native English speakers will often comment how they have similar sounds due to the word structures and vowel pronounciation. Nativlang on Youtube has a video about this.
OMG I finally got my answer  Many of my friends get the two mixed together when they listen to my playlist in the car. I am used enough to both languages to distinguish them, but now at least I understand where they're coming from.

So what? It’s ridiculous to tell people stop comparing them to Go_A because there are 1. DEFINITELY resemblances to Go_A and EVEN if there weren’t it’s one‘s personal opinion after all.

And 2. I don’t care what’s outside ESC and if they invented a special genre or not, all I am saying (and obviously a bunch of other members here too ;)) is they sound AND look like Go_A. I‘m just talking about Eurovision.

And if anyone remembers here that Go_A were my #2 last year that‘s a good sign because I think Fulenn is awesome too! (y)
So, who is telling you to stop that comparison, because I didn’t, did I? You are indeed entitled to have your personal opinion as much as I am and everybody else.
It’s your choice to shortlist your musical references or brackground to one band or one single event for a entire music scene. Having a bunch of people agreeing with you doesn’t make your opinion any more valid than anyone‘s else. What seems to be something DEFINITELY for you, doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a FACT… it’s, as you well said, just your opinion (y)

I don't give a fuck about the comparisons with Go_A. For me it's more a compliment than anything else. Shum was absolutely amazing live and i'm glad someone is bringing something similar this year (and even more since it's my own country xcheer )

Remember that It's always tricky and a big challenge for any artist/band to represent their country the year after coming so close to victory. People have very high expectations and can easily be disappointed. Barbara set the bar very high last year. It was amazing but now France has to move forward and try to reproduce great performances and good rankings. Maybe Fulenn is not as competitive as Voilà but i do think it's a very interesting successor to Barbara to keep interest about what France is sending. This manages to maintain a good level of competitiveness. Yes it's my country but i would say that for every country and i'm sure people can agree with what i'm saying.

Let's wait for the live performance in Turin but i'm kinda relieved we send something consistent to the contest.

Returning to France, to me the second verse is the most "French"-sounding.

Oc'h ober fae deus ar fall loened e tañsan

The last word in each of these lines rhyme with each other and also rhyme with a lot of French words. The final vowel has a kind of 'ɑ̃' sound which is suuuuper prevalent in French (and French also has a lot of similar sounding vowels too). It's like the words danse, prends, or quand.
I agree that the male singer has a more of a nasal pronounciation that renders it more French.

I get the comparisons with Tanxu, but Go_A? 🤨🤨
Why is it that difficult to understand?

Being an ESC Fan 101: Eleni Foureira invented dance pop, Go_A invented folk, Maneskin invented rock, Duncan Laurence invented piano. Repeat after me.

Nobody said that.
Some of us just said it sounds like Go_A.

Nobody claimed Go_A invented it.
On the contrary I even listed some ethno-tronic bands in Eurovision before Go_A.

I still don’t get the point why people try to shut down other opinions by laughing sarcastically about people‘s comparison.

And to quote DirtyFalcon: it’s a compliment. To both Go_A and Alvan & Ahez. :)

I came here to make comparisons with Go_A, but then everybody did it before me? :ROFLMAO:

Think this will easily finish inside the top 10, top 5 is quite possible, maybe even top 3 with a bit of luck. Or top 1 and let's just call it a day.

My 2 cents: I don´t think that comparions are bad at all - they help people to organise things/build categories in their memory and it can help people to rank these items.
Also, some songs simply remind other people of X - that´s inevitable.

What I hate about the ESC community is, however, when a song gets called a "Billy Eilish", "Arcade", "Go_A", "Fuego" or "Maneskin" copy just because these songs share 1 component but have nothing else in common. That´s just ridiculous, imo.

Anyway, it´s cute that the French singer answered all these random questions - maried to his guitar? - his other instruments have to be jealous as f+ck.

To me they share dozens and have lots in common so who‘s right now? No one or both because it’s a personal opinion. As someone attending music lessons (I once sang in a band) I just tend to compare certain structures of a song, beat, notes etc. so I see similarities.
Could we just stop mocking people because of their comparisons? It’s so annoying and exhausting if someone writes "song x is a copy of y" and at once there are some „specialists“ here who always write „oh my God they have nothing in common“.

It´s funny/strange that you´re annoyed by "specialists" as you call them but at the same time behaving like one.

Specialists not like in professionals.
Specialists like in "I don’t see any comparison so it‘s fun mocking people who think there are similarities".
I don’t claim I am 100% right. I just compare songs for myself from a musical point of view and sometimes come to the conclusion that some songs strongly adopt certain parts of former songs.
But I‘m too tired to continue this discussion and leave it as it is. I will go on comparing things to whatever other things. It’s a pity we can’t discuss a song on a musical level. I could also just go on and write "Yaaas Queen slay" below any song I like.

Why are all these German people having an argument on the French thread?

What a surprise, some French people are complaining that the song is not in French "I don't fell represented because it's not in French" kind of stuff.

And I have seen this on twitter : https://twitter.com/EstelleMidi/status/1500814059259707396?t=cPqQb5CdLjXb-mqHD2n7rA&s=19
Well, it's basically people who don't do any research giving their shitty opinions on tv.
