Quite interesting choice of France. I'm pleased that they keep sending different stuff, even after a succesful year, they are not "keeping the formula".

I understand this is a ESC forum and references with previoys ESC artists are inevitable, but reducing any ethno-folk sound to a Go_A is just limiting and unfair, for goodness sake there's a whole music scene outside Eurovision!

I like this one, even if a bit of a mess at times, it's charming.

I can see this doing decent in the contest, but I, myself, am still not really sure what to think. It's not bad, but I wouldn't be putting it on because I really wanted to listen to it, just on my own.

There were other songs from France I would have preferred, like Saam and Elliott.

I keep comparing it to Shum, and Shum keeps winning by a lot. For me personally it’s the least interesting French entry since 2015.

I still haven't made up my mind after 5 replays of Fulenn, so I won't decide on my points for now - I can imagine giving it anything from :3: to a :12:. But generally speaking, I can understand some very broad and superficial comparisons with Shum - the traditional meeting the modern with fandom getting absolutely bonkers and me being slightly puzzled as to why. Hopefully Fulenn will eventually click with me - and even if it doesn't, it's still pretty awesome seeing France so appreciated for second year in a row :)

Forgive me for my ignorance here but Breton sounds like French. I was expecting it to sound more... Welsh?

Well French is my first language and I can tell you that it has nothing in common, I can't understand a single Breton word

As for the show however, I am disappointed. Negativity incoming, I am sorry about that.
1. It's nice having a broader genre diversity, but I doubt its meaning and sincerity when a big majority of songs feels like unnecessary fillers (just my opinion of course). The eventual top 3 seemed head and shoulders above the rest - any rigging conspirations around? :) It is epic to eventually come up with an entry that could mean a possible :fr: - :it: rematch, and surely most countries would kill for having at least that one great song winning and representing them. However I would have still expected much, much more from both the songs and especially the presentation, both this and last year. Honestly, don't worry to do things à la Finlandaise and just have the final with 6-7 songs you can all (or almost all) trust to be good options.
2. Bring some more spontaneity please! Stéphane Bern seems like a decent guy I might enjoy having a philosophical debate with over a cup of coffee, but I would have never ever dreamt of letting him present a public show. The result is embodiment of scripted plasticity.
3. As a sidenote, congrats on hitting my personal pet-peeve and absolutely butchering the interval act (just as almost everyone does, tbh). Imagine's strength doesn't lie in making everyone feel like a big pile of tender jello while singing like an ethereal cloud that might soon evaporate with all of its overly long sadboi notes. It might be a ballad, but the original is sung in a quite sharp, raw and determined way, which is what actually makes it strong and which most covers go completely against. Anyone who arranges this classic into such a pile of beaten nothing would better quit music altogether and rather start cultivating tomatoes.
Rant over, and congrats on eventually reaching the one main goal of a NF - selecting a song you can send with pride and hope for a good result with :)

Sad to hear the show flopped big time in terms of viewing ratings.

France 2 was the fourth most watched channel that night, which is bad especially on a Saturday. Only 1.47 million people watched the NF, which is a massive drop compared to last year's 2.37 million viewers.

One could have expected more given Pravi's placing and the rating record of Eurovision 2021 in France.

I'm not sure if it bodes well for the format we use.

Maybe big competition on Saturday??

It stood no chance against The Voice, but then again it also was behind a rebroadcasted TV film and a documentary... :( We lost almost a million viewers and it's the worst ratings we've had since the reintroduction of a NF in 2018.

The format could use a revamp on certain aspects I guess, but I do wonder what will happen next year. Unless we win in Turin, how could we reverse the trend? Destination Eurovision was ditched with better ratings than that.

As lots of Bretons (as me, well), he's a non-Breton-speaking Breton. I have the same kind of accent while singing some old gwerzou.
I've heard spoken Breton on various youtube videos and it sounds a lot like French to me accent-wise/phonologically too except for the words being very different. I thought those were representantive samples of it?

Breton is a Celtic language unlike French.

I feel a little like you. I didn't/don't understand the hype around this song - but at the same time, I feel the vibes of this song. But I cannot make up my mind either. It is not fantastic for me (Barbara was), but in the end I gave 8 points for being different and sending a more modern song. :)

What is happening? My third 12 so far this year! That is more 12s than I would normally hand out during a whole ESC edition. This was my clear winner in this NF.
But France will have to step it up in Torino. I give the song a 12. The rest needs improvement. The vocals should be a bit stronger in May. I like the idea of the staging, with the green colour and the flames. I even like the female dancer - often I find solo dancers to be more distracting than actually adding anything to the show.
The camarawork was a disaster....and both the girls, Alvan and the dancer need to get instructions as to where and when to move around the stage.
But all that can be fixed.

So what? It’s ridiculous to tell people stop comparing them to Go_A because there are 1. DEFINITELY resemblances to Go_A and EVEN if there weren’t it’s one‘s personal opinion after all.

And 2. I don’t care what’s outside ESC and if they invented a special genre or not, all I am saying (and obviously a bunch of other members here too ;)) is they sound AND look like Go_A. I‘m just talking about Eurovision.

And if anyone remembers here that Go_A were my #2 last year that‘s a good sign because I think Fulenn is awesome too! (y)

Breton is a Celtic language unlike French.

I definitely agree that the languages have similar sounds, despite a lack of common vocabulary. I speak French, and listening to the song for the first time was bizarre because it felt like I was having a stroke  It sounded so familiar yet my brain couldn't make out any actual words.

There's actually a similar phenomenon between Portuguese and Russian - they're entirely different languages from entirely different families, but a lot of native English speakers will often comment how they have similar sounds due to the word structures and vowel pronounciation. Nativlang on Youtube has a video about this.

Returning to France, to me the second verse is the most "French"-sounding.

Oc'h ober fae deus ar fall loened e tañsan
Me bak an tan en o lagad leun a droukc'hoant
Ha da dreiñ 'n'añ en ur c'han da gan' a-unvan

The last word in each of these lines rhyme with each other and also rhyme with a lot of French words. The final vowel has a kind of 'ɑ̃' sound which is suuuuper prevalent in French (and French also has a lot of similar sounding vowels too). It's like the words danse, prends, or quand.
