Me voilà même si mise à nue j'ai peur, oui

Me voilà même si mise à nue c'est fini

Me voilà même si mise à nue c'est fini
Me voilà dans le bruit et dans la fureur aussi
Regardez moi enfin et mes yeux et mes mains
Tout c'que j'ai est ici, c'est ma gueule c'est mon cri
Me voilà, me voilà, me voilà
Voilà, voilà, voilà, voilà
Voilà

So, NF is done and Barbara Pravi was surprisingly the one to get the crown in the end.

Let’s start with the pros, because it would be unfair and incredibly stupid to say there’re none.
Barbara is a great singer. Voice control is there, she knows how to transmit emotions. She’s definitely a performer, and a good one at that. Voilà is a charismatic ballad we don’t see often in ESC, no doubt only a few will be left indifferent.

But I didn’t want it as our representative.

First, I can’t shake out of my head the Edith Piaf similarity. You may find it endearing, but personally it’s really jarring. I don’t know if it was intentional or not (I hope it isn’t), but don’t you think it’s ironic that for someone who wants to show who she really is, her gestures and stage presence are more than similar to one of our biggest artists ?
Second, like I said again and again, I don’t want a ballad for France. I dream of the day we'll start to be bolder and send the unexpected. We're already doing in that aspect in JESC, I'm sure it can works in the big one too. We're pre-qualifier, it's the occasion to try new genres and bring different things to the ESC stage.
Third, I'm sure we can send en entry with a French flair still without sounding like a pool of clichés like Voilà is. Many of you said it : it sounds like a classical French ballad. It ticks all the boxes to the point it loses its own identity. And I think it's my biggest pet peeve with this song : I can't relate. French music changed a lot over the years, it would have been perfectly fine in the XXth century but now I don't think it fits in our musical scene (and I'm not only talking about the one we hear on radio).

On another note, I was (pleasantly) surprised by how well Pony X and LMK did with jury vote.

To say it can win is such a huge reach at this moment in time when you consider the Jury winner has only once been Non-English and we only know 3 entries so far.
Absolutely, it's way to soon for that. But she definitely will be a contender for a very high position.

The French national final "Eurovision France, c'est vous qui décidez!" is now over. The winner was Barbara Pravi "Voilà". Oddly enough, I ranked her just 9th out of 12 on My Eurovision Scoreboard. In my opinion, the song isn't bad, but I think some parts sound like a mixture of half singing half talking. Several other songs I thought were better; I was hoping Juliette Moraine or Céphaz would win. Anyway, congratulations to Barbara Pravi for winning with the song "Voilà". Time will tell how well (or badly) "Voilà" will fare on the Eurovision stage in Rotterdam (or a location somewhere in France for a pre-recorded or live satellite performance, depending on which of the planned scenarios ends up being used). Whatever happens, France is directly qualified to the Grand Final as a Big Five nation.

I'm reading so many comments on social media from people who didn't like the song first but were blown away by the live. That's the quality you need at Eurovision - to capture the people in 3 minutes. Well done Barbara!
I wonder how the odds will react to this.

Right now it's #1.

This is how you have to influence the betting odds AFTER you chose an entry... not like Israel dropping a few places (Poor Eden :( )

French music is popular in France, elsewhere people listen to chansons from France and the rest is shunned because it's generally just a bunch of idiots trying to be rappers or hipsters doing try-outs for IKEA commercials. This works. I like it.

That's not a nice statement to Israel/Eden. Plus, the odds predicts winning entry, we all know "Set Me Free" is not going to win or challenge the win. I am also sure the Israeli delegation knows that.

Yes, France picked a quality track, but we have yet to see the other 38 entries. I won't be surprised if this song tumbles down once the other countries start picking their winning song.

I agree with your second paragraph - Of course, it's way too early to say anything but still, if an entry rockets to #1 after being chosen, it's saying something (either popularity, fuss, quality, chances). - This is crucial - especially since we just know 2-3 songs right now (I'm pretty sure that the Roop will get that #1 spot next week IF they win)

That's why it's so utterly sad for Eden - She has ZERO chances in finishing high and she's in a very strong and competitive semi (countries-wise). My comment might not have been "nice" to Israel/Eden but it's the truth - they simply don't have a competitive or quality entry. They will heavily rely on Eden's charming personality and her power and energy as a performer.

It hasn't got a radio frame, but it could easily make it to France Inter IMO... Obviously it has Edith Piaf heritage, but I link it more to actual "Nouvelle scène". It doesn't sound old IMO.
