A rumor. And I HOPE it keeps being a rumor. I listened to parts of his songs and all of them would be an instant dead last place in my ranking

a man with raspy voice and a guitar playing slow acoustic songs is my least favorite music trope
Yeah its good its own but not good for Eurovison..... But yeah according to my french friends they want to send Amir 2.0

"Le Parisien" is generally well-informed, unfortunately. I'm afraid of a decision à la 2015 when Nathalie André chose "N'oubliez pas" alone in her office because she had a heart stroke for the song. I'm hope that the new head of delegation didn't chose the song alone.

Yes Le Parisien gives very good informations when its about Eurovision. So i would say this rumor is 90% true. Me too, i dont like his songs but i am still very optimistic for France because if you read on the article, the chosen song will not be composed and written by him so there are good chances it will be another music style. Tom has very good voice, knows how to sing well live and finally has charisma.

For me its a good choice. If he has THE song, we can do Top 5 or at least like Amir

édit : I didn't read the whole article but :

"Une étape déterminante pour la délégation tricolore, qui a d'abord écouté des centaines de chansons d'auteurs et compositeurs français, mais aussi étrangers pour la première fois. Le titre trouvé, restait donc à dénicher un interprète en totale adéquation pour défendre au mieux les chances de la France. C'est fait!"

Basically, the french delegation listened to hundreds of songs from french and foreigners authors and composers. When they find the right song, they chose the artist. So likely it won't be a song in his own style, but he probably agree with the final choice since he'll sing it. After all, I feel quite optimistic.

Hum... So basically they chose the song and then found the singer that they thought fitted the most ? I know it has been done before, doesn't change the fact I think it's not the best approach.
As for the genre, even if he didn't compose it, they said they found a singer who's a "perfect match" for this song... so it must be close to what he usually sings. Which would be surprising since acoustic isn't really in tune with the last internally chosen entries (from JESC and ESC). Even with a new HoD, I expected them to keep going on their streak.

Anyway, I hope it's a false rumor, even if Le Parisien is a reliable source. This is definitely not what I want from France.

Oh, I wish the song was as good as Amir's. However, considering my own taste, I doubt that will happen.

And it's not even "not good for Eurovision". Every song that follow EBU's rules is for eurovision, but since it's I style of song I hate despise loathe, I will root against it.

1. I find it quite hard to warm up to Tom, as much as acoustic guitar ballads sung by men are usually very much my cup of tea. So hopefully he's a good match for the song without the song being completely in his usual style. I very much doubt it though - emotions need to be believable and that is usually more difficult to achieve when someone does the artist vs song matchmaking.
2. I think rebranding is not a bad idea for France. Too much of a repetitive good thing can become fairly bad. (Especially when the average :fr: result for the past 5 years is... Almost exactly average).
3. How many countries have selected a male entry so far? I'll have to go and check the precise numbers, but by this point I almost hope the :cz: NF is won by a (one very specific) female :)

Edit:
ESC 2020 will became a Duncan 2.0 wannabe: It's not good that many countries select a male entry..
beats me for the third point. Anyway, if my calculations are right, the current score is 6 men (Tom included), 2 women, 1 band. Hopefully it doesn't really stay that way.

Honestly, I would take anyone over a man with a guitar, to put it in our dear @anaraqueen's words. Unlike our brazilian queen I don't hate this trope, but come on, it's time to be a little more audacious.
Another question comes to my mind : if Tom Leeb is indeed our representative, will he sing in French ? All his songs I saw are in English, so will he be comfortable singing in our language (as some aren't) ? Because let's be honest, there's almost no chance FranceTV will choose a song not sung in French or a regional language, for the major part at least (and I totally agree with this policy).

@Mimmon give me a few minutes and I'll do it

He's basically giving his thoughts about this rumor, talking about what Le Parisien wrote. He likes his voice but hope his song will be a little different than what he usually delivers, wonders in which language it will be (but expects some part in English). And like me, he doesn't really agree with the selection process.

Hopefully his song won't be as tragic as his attempt at stripping (from a comedy show tho):
