I hope Bilal will not withdraw because of his tweet. French far right did the same thing with a contestant of "The Voice", Mennel, and she was cut of the show.

I even don't know if he will be authorized to go to Israel anymore.

Not being allowed to go to Israel for a tweet he made when he was 14 years old would be absolutely ridiculous. No one should be judged by all the crap they said on social media at that age.

It's too bad this kid wasn't smart enough to make a new twitter account when he became famous. Who knows what else they are going to find on there. He's got over 10000 tweets.

He posted several statements about Israel, when he was 14, by writing down that several crimes against humanity (Palestine, I guess, is the main reason why he may have written this) had been committed by the Israeli government.

However, he retorted to some of those, who blamed him for having done such a thing, that one of his friends might have posted on Bilal's twitter account. xshrug

Lol. The amount of times we hear of people having to apologise for tweets/fb posts etc they made as a child. Name me someone who hasn't posted something possibly shady at any point. This seems like a 'Mountain out of a molehill' incident tbh. Israel wont ban him or whatever, and have Russia/Ukraine style drama all over again.

If I remember correctly - since the Samoylovagate - the nation that agrees to host has to welcome all contestants. The EBU changed their rules after 2017. So I'm not even sure Israel could do something about it. xthink

This is why I am SO happy social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter weren't invented until I was in my 20s. Whatever stupid crap I said as a teenager will forever be lost to the world.

I cant see many Ungays voting for him tbh and Juries will give maximum 30 Points I think. I think 17th-18th is the Maximum for him.

What's an ungay? A gay that was cured from his gayness?

that's absurd if they actually made it into a rule. they can't overrule the laws of a country for a damn song contest. such arrogance. (obviously bilal doesn't even apply here and should go, but still)

No, the Broadcaster have to make sure that their Participants doesnt bring the Hostcountry to give him a Travel-Ban:

So obliegt es künftig der teilnehmenden Rundfunkanstalt sicherzustellen, dass "kein ausgewählter Teilnehmer und kein Delegationsmitglied aufgrund seines/ihres Vorlebens den Behörden des Gastgeberlandes Anlass dafür gibt, aufgrund nationaler Gesetze gegen ihn/sie ein Einreiseverbot zu verhängen."

I was more worried about French delegation itself asking Bilal to withdraw because of national pressure. I mean far-right activists didn't let it go about The Voice contestant and they did the exact same thing with Bilal by searching old tweets of him. They really hate him so much I have the feeling that they will search everything possible about him.

Ain't so sure that politics has something to do with the fact that some of his tweets were found back.

You're right regarding the rules, my bad, actually it was a letter from the EBU to Israel: https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/israel/183439-180904-eurovision-organizers-place-demands-on-lsrael-as-host

The EBU apparently demanded Israel to comply with certain conditions potentially clashing with Israeli policies, including allowing entrance to all participants and visitors without restrictions regardless of political beliefs and sexual orientation.

"The demands come in the wake of a wave of recent controversy over Israeli authorities’ refusal to allow entry to left wing activists. Under Israeli law, customs and security officials are allowed to bar individuals who support boycotts of Israel or advocate against Israeli settlements in the West Bank from entering the country."

I was a teenager already in the social media boom era yet afaik yet I do not think I posted any stupid crap. But another thing is that I am not a very active guy on social media as a person. I've never been.

Still there's no way that they ban Bilal for some old tweet from 2014

We all say and do stupid stuff when we're young and naive. All I can say is thank Jesus that I set fire to my Bebo account before the site even shut itself down. When I become a famous ESC San Marino representative one day, the only dirt they'll have to dish will be 16,000 or so posts here of me shading various Eurovision related artists, the competition itself, plus probably a bunch of photos that I had forgotten to delete of little teen me wearing an armful of golden bangles, thinking I'm the English Sertab Erener (this did actually happen).

I'm not Bilal's biggest fan when it comes to the music, but people really are reaching. Social media is such a curse. Things you say years ago can come back to haunt you, and the mob doesn't allow you growth as a person. It's been just a week and I'm already tired of the circus surrounding the French 2019 entry. It's going to be a long few months.
