France FRANCE 2014 - Twin Twin - Moustache

"Moustache" was definitely my favorite although it reminds me of another song I can't put my finger on (not "Papaoutai" because before today I never heard of it). It was strange because I could tell the guys were singing live but other part (the girls:?) sounded like it was a recording or something, or maybe their that good . I still don't see a jury voting of it all unfortunately . The overall performance while great for me just looks like something they won't vote for even though there's nothing wrong with it xdoh

"Sans toi" was great for a pop song although I see the anti-boyband voices out in full force :roll:. The blonde one was definitely the strongest overall, the black hair one had a strong accent in English but was fine in French and the brown one was the weakest in English though fine in French as well. But overall it wasn't some big disaster. The chorus was very catchy and the strongest part of the song but the verses weren't terrible. They are definitely best and most confident singing in French and need to ditch the English and I suspect the broadcaster would make them or at least work harder on it. I'm sure if they win the broadcaster will make them continue the rehearsing . I also noticed that the audience was clapping along and that probably fits toinou03's point that its a old people show

Joanna was easily best vocally but its a shame she had the weakest song, she definitely deserved better

It will be between Twin Twin and Destan and whatever one wins I will be happy, both were catchy and stayed in my mind after they were over . Although if Joanna somehow pulls it off I won't be crying either

As for the voices, the backing vocals were not live, hence Destan being so good in the chorus...

Sans Toi is the way to go. The blonde guy is amazing and the band in general comes across as something fresh and likeable. Moustache was worse than I expected. I find the melody boring and repetitive and I couldn't wait for the 3 minutes to pass...it sounded better on the snippet. Ma Liberte is just 'meh'...song wise and image wise.

PLEASE Destan 'Sense Toi'!!! Not fantastic vocals but so what? Great song, perfect sound for Eurovision and they look great. An uplifting song would make a change for France too!

I can definitely hear the "I'm sexy and I know it" in the chorus although for some strange reasons the verses give me "Counting Stars" vibes even if that makes no sense xshifty

All 3 songs have their strengths and weaknesses but I think they will all fair better then the last few French entries result wise even if quality wise they don't match

Let's just say this year France clearly decided to play the Eurovision game and not their own, I think it will pay off

Here are my opinions on the three songs that have the potential to become the song that France will send to Copenhagen. I am judging as I'm listening to each song.:

Destan - "Sans Toi":
Very good pop song. The group looks good, and three is the magic number, because that will allow for back-up singers if the song is chosen. The problem I have with it is that it switches languages too frequently. This is a problem of trying to appeal to too many people at once. If you do that, then you'll end up pleasing no one.

The advice I'd give to to people involved with "Sans Toi" is to release the song in both languages (not this French/English flip-flopping version that I've heard), and then decide which version to send to Copenhagen. Preferably, whichever version is sonically better is the one I would send, whether it is all in French or all in English.

As the song stands now, I'll give the song 8 points, because it is a good song, but not a great song. It has nice lyrics and a decent instrumental track.

Joanna - "Ma Liberte":
Another good, but not great, song. It's a case of very good vocals that are then watered down by good, but forgettable, instrumentals. Joanna is a very good singer, no matter if the song is chosen or not.

As the song stands now, it gets 7 points for the reasons above.

Twin Twin - "Moustache":
Well, this song has a memorable chorus, I will give it that. It also has the potential to be a very good contender if it gets chosen, because Twin Twin has a lively stage presence, which I think will appeal to a lot of folks.

My one bit of advice for Twin Twin: if they make the verses as memorable as the chorus (whether it be through stage presence or making them catchier), they have a great tune here.

As the song stands now, I'll give it 8 points.

No matter which song gets chosen, it can only go up for France as far as achieving a good position in the final.

Seriously, this is bad. Destan sounds like a particularly uninspired, tacky boysband theme someone kept in a drawer since the 90s, and the third boy clearly can't sing. Being bilingual doens't help;
joanna's is an average, ok-ish ballad, and Twin Twin sound like Homens da Luta gone French - no creativity, no music, no humour, no fun.
I'd go for the lesser evil, which is Joanna, and pray 2014 goes fast and 2015 comes quick :?
