Re: FINLAND 2014

Last time Finland tried with a song in finnish, we didn't get in the final. We obviously want to be in the final, so...

You were actual top. 10 with the viewers, it was those awful juries that made you skip the final...

Look at Estonia, they're pretty successful and has qualified with their Estonian language entries... considering Finnish is pretty similar I think Europe appreciate listen to Finno-Ugric...

I mean look at Hungary, they made it to the top. 10 in 2013 with an entry in Hungarian that no one really thought would be that successful. I guess there's something appealing to Europe in these languages.

Estonian language is way nicer than Finnish.
Hungarian is way different than Finnish and Estonian, phonetic and grammar is totally different, I don't understand a single wod in Hungarian, they have nothing to do with each other nowadays, maybe hundreds of years ago, I don't know ...

In 2010 It wasn't properly Finnish, It was a dialect from Carelia.
I don't think the language is that important, a good song is a good song no matter in which language is sung.

But to the general European viewer who doesn't understand a word in Finnish or Estonian, I don't think the difference would come across as THAT large.

Yes, I know that Hungarian differs alot, my point was that maybe people like how the Finno-Ugric languages sounds in general...

I agree about the last part, all I was saying in my original comment was that the public actually liked your entry in Finnish in 2010, it was the juries that made it fail.

Still though, would be nice to hear Finnish again...

It would be nice a nice song in Finnish, the last one which got in the final was Missä miehet ratsastaa (22nd) X-OI

The last one that would have gotten to the final was Työlki ellää in 2010 that was 6th in televoting alone... ! I don't find the juries' 15th position legitimate what-so-ever, it was just their agenda to bloc local sounding entries from being successful!

My ultimate dream for Finland will always be the same - send Nightwish. I could then die happy.

Actually the Finnish and Hungarian languages are the only languages that aren't based on any other language in Europe. I think that's the reason that they're so appealing! :)

Wait, what? xcrazy Finnish and Hungarian are both Uralic languages that have similar origins, along with Estonian (and Udmurt!).
If you should nominate one language in Europe that isn't based on any other language, it's Basque.

Frankly, I don't care whether Finland sends an entry in Finnish, Swedish or English, as long as it's a good one. We were on a streak between 2009 and 2012 (though 2009 was terrible live), but nothing that really would've set the world on fire. This year's UMK had a pretty good level all-round, but we selected by far the worst song of the final. Mikael Saari or Great Wide North back in 2014, and I'm satisfied.

They would never take part of UMK ... not sure If they are even allow to do it as the contest is meant for new artists ... so I guess you can keep dreaming some years  maybe in the future If YLE decide to make an internal selection It can happen, but I doub it...

Jannika B - Seuraavaan elämään (official, october 2012)

Jannika B seem to be focused on Finland only. I can't find a single English or Swedish phrase from her. Great singer though.

Diandra - Lost (VEVO, May 2013)

Diandra sings she lost her way. I'd say she must find her way first. Truly amazing voice, terrible video and OK song with somewhat cheap production. She seem to be such a sweet girl - be sweet and do great music!

Re: FINLAND 2014

Finland in 2014 should forgot about American old-fashioned pop, and do it what, what they do best - heavy rock. At NF 2013, "Lost" was very good composition and with better performance, could end on Top 10 in Malmö.

OK, after a long digging in the threads I found it. :D I assume you mean the Arion boys and their track Lost? Yeah, I liked it a lot too, especially the guitarist. But I hope for Jannika B and some great electropop. Diandra will perhaps be back too.

edit:
Saw the Arion video again. Justin Bieber just takes over and he isn't that great singer either. :D The guitarist though. xheart

edit2:
The studio version is great

Yes, I talk about they :) Their song is very good, but performance at Finnish NF to wasn't very well (to put it mildly) :D

Re: FINLAND 2014

OMG yes!! she'd be brilliant :D

For what it's worth (:D), I think she could very well be thinking of participate in UMK, giving her previous attempts in Finnish Idol. A Finnish opinion would be great though. There isn't much published about her and a live performance video would be just the thing to judge her.

She's apparently FennoSwede (from Österbotten?)
