You can´t change your ethnicity.

One culture might be more dominating based on your upbringing and surroundings but ethnically speaking, you´re half-Polish if you father was Polish. It´s a different case when he was of German/Silesian ethnicity, though.

I just referred to your comment that it´s not "entirely true" that Daniel Schmidt´s father was German.
@mauve as well as articles might have referred to his ethnicity.

Gérard Depardieu got Russian citizenship and a Russian passport - He´s still French (based on his ethnicity) and thus, Daniel Schmidt´s father can still be both - US American (by citizenship) and German (by ethnictiy) - some media outlets also wrote that his father is of German nationality. Nationality is inherited by one´s person - "how one does identify herself/himself or what kind of passport you get" is irrelevant here.

Anyway, I think it´s some interesting piece of information that a Japanese player is of German descent. Thanks for sharing @mauve

I´m sorry but I strongly doubt that any German would call an American that most likely never been to :de: before and who doesn´t speak the language call "German" just because his great-great-grandfather came from there 150 years ago.

That´s not what I said - and that´s not the case here, either, and that´s a different story (in the US, they don´t refer back to ethnicity, they ask for "ancestry" and yeah, most of them still define themselves as "somewhat German/Irish/African-American" despite living in the US for a few generations - Lady GaGa is of Italian descent, acknowledges her identity and ethnicity despite not being born there).
I can call myself a "Ukrainian" or "Mexican" - but it doesn´t matter - I still carry my parents´ DNA and continue sharing their cultural and ethnic heritage.

You can "disagree with us" but facts remain facts and none of us did come up with these definitions.

You might be fine implicitly or explicitly neglecting your cultural heritage but it´s still part of your DNA/heritage/ethnicity.

I never said I neglect my roots, I simply said that I consider myself :de: because I lived my whole life here and since German is my native language, and it´s very rich from you to put these words into my mouth.

Please try to refrain from referring back to previous posts I wasn´t quoting because I didn´t mean no harm and I solely replied to your post about "150 years etc." - I meant "you" as an impersonal pronoun which is commonly used in the English language. It can be translated as "man" in German.
I apologise that you feel attacked.

The f, seriously people on here praising that dumb dictator Infantino for his remark about the west when it was just a fallacy and his speech was dramatically bad, like a corrupt toddler who starts beating around in impotence. The FIFA and especially Infantino are shameless and blinded by power, prestige, status and above all a lot of dirty money. They don't care about anything besides their own interest. How can you for goodness sake celebrate a lukewarm counter-attack launched out of sheer impotence and stupidity so as not to have to talk about the real current problems regarding this WC. Shocking. Progressive my ass.

+ it´s not like "the East" have been the epitome of peace and freedom.

It was just pathetic to bring this up in the first place - like "Europeans have to apologise for 3,000 years" before they can actually level criticism at corruption and countries who neglect basic human rights?
That´s insane.

Absolutely agree. I have a few friends who live in the US and have German (and other) roots and acknowledge them without having ever lived in these countries. On the one hand to many of them, it is important, to some on the other hand (like ESC94), it might be rather less relevant.
My case is different as I HAVE lived in Japan, so I can relate much more to my roots.

Germany had training today: do you see similiarities between FC Bayern's Serge Gnabry and SpyxFamily's Anja Forger? :ROFLMAO:

I like Gnabry, he´s cute. He can´t beat Goretzka though. xheat
You lucky one! There is noone from the German's team I would regard as hot or cute. Maybe Goretzka is still the best, I think. I liked Hummels, but the hottie is not here this time. Damn Flick! xangry

I also like Neuer, Kimmich or Gündogan, the last one only though if he doesn´t have this awful "Pornobalken" as we say in German. :ROFLMAO:

I could also agree on Ilkay, he is somewhat cute! Could be a bit taller though. Maybe I will stretch him a bit. I have enough energy. :ROFLMAO:
