Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2012: REHEARSALS (vote in the poll for your fave from DAY

Italy :it: - a super voice, super song, statement - quiet horror. Or rather lack of it. I was expecting another (in terms of background and special effects), Nina is in a handful of backs and not released 8/10

France :fr: - missing her voice, so everywhere and sang under the sound recording. Statement is anything. But herself Anggun super and the white scarf, too (or is not a scarf?) 6/10

Germany :de: - quiet, clean, perfect ... just go down quietly in the top 10, I'm sure 9/10

Azerbaijan :az: -no complaints, a great voice, good song (but an amateur). Just not my story 7/10

Spain :es: - strong, but boring. In principle, as expected. I love the song, the language, love his voice ... but my eyes did not see Pastora 7/10

:es: Spain
Wow! She didn't dissappoint me. Backdrop is brilliant. It will look classy on the TV. And I must add I loved the back vocalists' hand movements. Nothing to say about her voice. The song itself still gives me goosebumps! I hope she will get top 5 placing in the final. xheart Good Luck Pastora xkiss

I think the best rehearsal was from Azerbaijan until now. What a voice! And it was only the first rehearsal! You might think I am biased, but believe me it is gonna be top 3 and may be even a double win!

Spain : Wow what a voice! Good backdrop. The backings were great. Overall I can see this song either in the top 5 or in the bottom 5 depending on if people resonate with her performance or not.

Germany:
Nearly the same performance as in the "Unser Star für Baku"-Final and some other TV-Shows.
In my opinion it can do well in the final.

Azerbaijan:
Amazing perforamance. They really know how to use the stage-effects.
But there are better songs in this year´s Eurovision imo.

France:
I like Anggun and her song - but what was that?
Too less movement on stage, a bad performance.
With her experience she can do much better and I hope she will do it in her second rehearsal.

Engelbert is good :D
love the staging. great backdrop, love the two dancers, they work great with the song, just like the dude with a guitar.

UK : He is still as good a singer as I expected, the song is decent, but it still leaves me somewhat cold. The setting of the stage is good. The backdrop is a bit slow in the start but becomes rather good at the end. Overall I will give their performance a 7/10. They play to their singers strenghts and sucessfully eliminates the weaknesses.

Slovenia: Everything about this song and its performance is magical! I wouldn’t change a thing!

Croatia: Much better today, although I still don’t like her dress and the male dancers are like out of place. It’s like they are dancing in an uptempo song! And I saw they had an accident there! The song is just ok, but I find it bland. Her voice is always great, though.

Sweden: In the verses, I hardly heard anything! Loreen, concentrate please! Don’t let me down! In the chorus she was great at least, and the back vocalists were much better today. I prefer the old dress, this one is a bit weird! But now I have doubts… Is this gonna be the winner?

Georgia: OMG, what is he wearing in the beginning? He just came out of the shower? I hope he will not qualify, please, this is just noise! But I can see this song going to the final unfortunately…

Turkey: Much better today for Turkey too. It wasn’t messy like the first rehearsal. I’m still not into this song, but I wouldn’t mind to see it in the final. Vocally he was much better too. Btw, were they trying to make it look like a ship? It took me time to get it…

Germany: He’s standing still, but I don’t know if he can stand out! I like this song, but something’s missing… It’s boring. His voice is great, of course. He can do well with the juries, and the song is easy for the ears, so it can do pretty good in the televoting too (a plus is that he’s cute, and girls will vote for him too). I don’t think he can be in top 10, but I might be wrong. I predict about 12th place in the final.

France: Her vocals could be much better I think! She sounded a bit weak in some moments, but I’m sure she will fix that in the final, we all know she’s got a great voice. All this dancing in the background does not fit the song at all. The song is like trying to go somewhere for 3 minutes, but never goes there! No top 10 for France…

Italy: She was out of tune in the chorus. What is she wearing? Why she is not dressed as in the official music video? She looked stunning there, now she looks like she’s fat! They could do so many good things on stage with this song, the stage looks empty! I’m 100% disappointed! I was sure Italy was gonna be in top 5, but not I have many doubts!

Azerbaijan: The staging is awesome! This is a big surprise! I didn’t think this song could do well, but now I can say that I see it in top 5 easily! One of the best rehearsals I’ve seen! Can Azerbaijan win again? We’ll see!

Spain: This is awesome! What a voice! Go Pastora, this song will be in top 5 for sure! If not, then something’s wrong!

UK: The song is sweet, but I think people will forget it until the end of the show. It can do well with the juries, though. I predict a placing about 15th in the final.

After seeing all the rehearsals, this is my prediction for the top 7 (random order): :se::es::az::cy::ro::rs::ua:

I just can't believe how Italy do better than Sweden in the bettings right now. I hated this rehearsal from Italy. This leave me cold and bored. BTW she looked ill. Look at her! Not healthy at all.

Oddschecker of course. Italy do much better than UK too in the bettings right now. The question is: WHY?

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2012: REHEARSALS (vote in the poll for your fave from DAY

Azerbaijan:

Everything is beautiful: Sabina's vocals, her dress, the backing vocals, the subtle lighting and the song is quite nice too. But still for me it feels like something essential is lacking. I think I've it said before: Christina Aguilera could have sung this song but she would not even consider it for the B-side of a single. It's simply not strong enough. From the start the song feels like there should be a climax filled with high notes but there is no climax coming. Contrary to Bosnia's ballad, one of my personal favorites and which feels like a complete finished whole, this feels very unsatisfying in the Azeri entry. Imagine Spain's ballad Quedate conmigo without the emotional climax: it would fall flat. So this rehearsal is like a beautifully dressed up meringue pie, super sweet and looking good, but without real substance.

Spain:

A solid first rehearsal performance. Pastora was able to hit all the notes. Something weird that I noticed was that the background singers sung with a different key (compared with the official version) during the climax (at about 2:13). Or are my ears getting old? The backdrop looked a bit static and boring, but on the other hand seems appropriate for this song. The vocal qualities alone should bring Pastora straight to the top 5, regardless of what she'll wear, what backdrop used etc.

UK:

Wow, a granddad wearing jeans. But this is of course just the first rehearsal, I'm sure we'll see Engelbert dressed up nicely in the second rehearsal. It's obvious, it's still possible to sing well at that age, but I clearly noticed that one particular and important note near the end of the song was off, where a technically difficult transition has to be made. This could cost him points. I think this entry will have to rely heavily on jury and sympathy votes should it want to end in the top 15.

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2012: REHEARSALS (vote in the poll for your fave from DAY

I was pretty impressed with most of the automatic qualifiers today, and I don't think there are any songs so far from the semi-finals that I've changed my mind on from their first rehearsals.

My Big 6 Ranking:

1. Azerbaijan: This is a song I haven't really paid any attention to since it's been revealed. The performance is so simple and beautifully done, Sabina's vocal is great.
2. Spain: I love the backgrounds they use in the song and her voice is outstanding. One issue I have is that she doesn't seem to give any good facial expressions that helps sell the meaning of the song (Something that Rona Nishliu does really well).
3. Italy: I'm a little disappointed they didn't go for a more retro feel with the background, but still a strong performance and great song.
4. United Kingdom: Contrary to the comments on the youtube videos, I thought his vocal was pretty good. I didn't think I'd like the dancers but I do. My only negative is that the lighting is too dark, it isn't how I pictured it in my head. To me this is a Summer-y song.
5. Germany: I didn't realise he had such a strong voice, with the draw he has as well a top 10 place isn't out of reach. I still find this a tad boring though.
6. France: Vocal was nothing to shout about and the staging and background are poor. I don't get how the gymnastics theme ties in with the song?

Italy and Spain will score high! Both did great, even though Nina didn't sing very good. But both songs has what Sweden is missing this year - a nice backdrop! Spain's looked amazing and Italy's looked very modern. Sweden has nothing?? Just some lights in the end? With all the money spent on this, all we got is a black box? ;) I really hope Sweden will win this year, but now I'm really afraid Italy or Spain will.
