Eurovision song contest 2010 - First semi-final - DISCUSSION

To be honest, only 5 songs should've qualified today. I mean, good song + good performance (both things at the same time): SERBIA, GREECE, ALBANIA, BELGIUM, ICELAND.

The rest of the songs suck or the performances sucked.

But still can't believe how Russia is in and Slovakia isn't. We'll have to analyze very well how juries and televoting worked and how block voting worked :?

No way could Moldova do anything (ex-Soviet) and Romania has the Balkans. Germany is a big country, not tiny, unknown, underrated Slovakia. That's why I think that's the only one that can have an impact. After this I seriously hope for Portugal because a win after so many failures could be what the contest needs.

Well, I just meant that geographically they are in Central Europe! Romania has the Balkans? The only countries from the Balkans that vote for us are -tr and -gr and that's only when we deserve it!

-bg gave -ro only 12 points in 5 years, and as I said, only when we deserved it! I am noyt coplaining here, but I am trying to make a point. I am sure yhat if -ro, -pl, -sk or -md had the Russian song it wouldn't qualify!

I loved Moldova, Iceland, Greece, Serbia, Albania - well deserved qualifiers, and pretty clear ones for me.
Russia - totally undeserved qualifier
Portugal, Bosnia, Belarus - nice performances, ok songs, but Slovakia was better than any of those 3, imo.
Belgium - I don't like it, but I guess people expected this to qualify.

Latvia - nice song, but horrible performance, bad singing
Finland, Estonia - horrible songs, happy for the outcome
Malta, Macedonia, Poland - nice performances, ok songs but not strong enough to qualify.

So overall....the results would be almost very good if we could switch Slovakia with Russia.

Agree. Overall the results were not that unfair, but this scandal was like the biggest ever, cause it's one of the best songs with one of the worst

I don't think Russia relied so much on jury voting but on block voting and some people got their sense of humour (it was a parody song wasn't it...) Belarus' performance just felt so fake. Slovakia would have needed a better stage performance, it was too swamp-like and that white fairy lady wasn't helping...too bad!

Sorry but Poland didn't appeal to me and although Portugal overdid her singing I was glad to see a ballad in a native language made it through to the finale. As for Latvia...whoa, girl couldn't sing.

Latvia (Not the greatest of live performers but I love the studio version)

I'm sad that so many people seem to hate the Butterflies (Belarus). It's one of my favourite songs from this semi it's really enchanting. (I need to find someone else who likes this song, I feel alone )

Can't believe Russia got through over.....well any other song in the semi final actually. :shock: Absolute dirge.

So Estonia and Latvia are out. If Lithuania doesn't go through either (and it looks like it won't), then we won't have any of the Baltic states in the Finals...

That's what I was thinking sooner. I believe all happy, crazy entries in semi 2 will for some reason make the final (NETHERLANDS, LITHUANIA, SLOVENIA...).

I do have a strange feeling Netherlands will make it....it kinda seems like the Flor-de-lise of this contest. Happy, fairly unassuming song that surprises people by doing better than expected.

I don't think Slovenia has any chance at all....

I really really hope u are wrong. Russia is enough.....we don't need entries like Netherlands, Slovenia....maybe Lithuania anyway at least one of the favorites from semi 2 will flop. Ukraine that was considered as having no chance to qualify, will qualify 100%, and will do well.....so I predict Denmark, Ireland, or Georgia will remain out. Hopefully I won't have a bad surprise seeing Romania out of the final.

I believe the last two are actually concrete. Sweden might fail... God, this semi is too hard. Everybody's a chance apart from Bulgaria/Cyprus.
