38 confirmed countries at this moment (including Greece) + eventually Bulgaria. So 38 or 39 participants.

Thank you. :)
So for the 60th anniversary, we won't see many more countries participating than last year.
Let's hope Bulgaria and Greece stay in. And no trouble for Slovenia this time? I hope so.

39, and if Bulgaria joins, then 40 countries.
But what whould happen if Bosnia,Croatia,Ukraine and Turkey were in?
A new record.

Do you think Slovakia would return? Yesterday, In the morning, I wouldn't expect :cz: to come back!

I do hope so. Austria is hosting the show + Bratislava is so close to Vienna + Poland/Hungary/Czech Republic are in... Come on guys, come back!
Eventually the number of countries posted by Jon Ola Sand was not accurate, wasn't it?

Czech Republic actually was NOT a surprise.
Remember when Jan Ola twited "39" and we were wondering about which country is the 39th?
EBU knew it, but they revealed the news today.

But did they know that BiH had dropped out?

But we are still unsure about Bulgaria, aren't we?

There are still 5 countries I wouldn't rule out completely:

:sk:
:ba:
:ua:
:hr:
:bg:

One big untold story about ESC 2014 was that ORF was bound to withdraw again and could only be prevented from doing so by Conchita and her management.

So, if there is still a talent or a manager out there, who wants to take the stage of ESC, I guess the broadcasters would not say no. It's about the money y'all.

So, at the bottom line we are at 39, and we could still get to 40 to 44.

39-40 countries.
Bosnia and Ukraine and Croatia are 101% out!
And really do you think Slovakia cares so much about what Czech Republic do? No of course.

Hmm I'm pretty sure that Bulgaria is in, so let's make that 40.
I'm still rooting for Ukraine & Turkey :(

Well, one of their broadcaster's excuses this year was that "Czech TV doesn't want to participate either". So they certainly care what the Czech TV does, too :p I doubt we will see Slovakia in 2015 though, it's too late to change their mind.

I'm pretty confident that we will see 40 countries in Vienna, we only just miss the confirmation of Bulgaria.

Even if they won't return, I'm pretty sure ORF will try hard to convince them or another country to join - thinking of :sk: :hr: :ba: :ua:

An internal selection is no big deal I guess, any country can still find artists who are willing to participate and especially for Slovakia, inspite of the fee, it's ESC for free. No hotel rooms needed.

So there is an odd number of participants again, which leaves unequal chances for the semifinal.

So, why not cut down the finalists down to 25 and let only 9 countries qualify from the smaller semi?

Or, why not give the Netherlands a prequalifier wild-card as a consolation price for being runner-up and save them from the semis?

Or, why not put the worst of the Big 5 (France) or the smallest of the Big 5 (Spain) into the semis this year?

Why not let Jon Ola Sand sing a song in the 16-participant-semi?

But presumably :au: Australia might be performing in one of the semi's, so that would give us 2 17 country semi's, although they would still be an advantage of being drawn in the semi with 16 "participating" songs. This years rules say 26 participants in the final, so that is unlikely to be changed.

I don't think he is a very good singer, but he could do it, if he would be represent Norway by doing so.

Yeah, and after four year of Eurovision, he is still not able to talk properly in front of the cameras, so... :? He bores me so much everytime he opens his mouth, gosh!

I think he is more likeable than Svante Stockselius, who always seemed like the excitement killed him already before it began, lol
